@UCmh_P0Ptm5nlzlXC8M99vKQ what are you talking about?
She wasn’t stalking him, she was driving him out and walking him out to make sure he left. She saw him as a threat.
100% defensive behavior - not stalking. Don't encroach on wildlife people. This guy was a douchebag who deserved to be attacked.
I agree. She probably had a family and was driving him out of her area, not to attack him.
You are dead sure about that ? Don't think I would want to hike with you !
Of course she was stalking him and if he had turned and run from her she would have been on his back, knocked him down and bitten his neck to kill him. They want you to run from them so they can jump on your back. Big cats attack from the back in a chase.
@@elderlyandweak2056 - if you saw the kit at the very beginning, that cat was NOT stalking the hiker. She WAS driving him away. If she was stalking him, and meant him harm, he'd be dead. Rule #1 while hiking - never, ever go near a kit, cub, or pup. Mom will be right behind it.
She wasn’t “stalking” him, she was pushing him away from her babies, and he handles it exactly the right way!
YES SHE WAS STALKING HIM! If he had turned and run she would have been on his back, bitten his neck and eaten him! They attack from behind in a chase, not from the front.
@@elderlyandweak2056 - You clearly have no idea what you're talking about, that is NOT how they behave when they're stalking a prey. She was loud and aggressive doing false attacks to try scaring him away, because she had babies. The exact opposite of how they behave when they're stalking prey and actually intend to attack for real. You even said it yourself without realizing it obviously: "They attack from behind in a chase, not from the front." Exactly. He was facing her and she was "pushing" him away from her babies.
@@medusaslairyeah, you’re right on this one. He’s the W 🏆
Cat was clearly stalking him and a mountain lion with a large pride like this one will absolutely hunt a human to feed its offspring. Dude backed up a half mile up the trail and the Cat was still charging him. Only reason cat gave up was because dude never took off running.

This mother cougar was not stalking the hiker - she was driving him away from her kits. HER body language tells the story. She made sure he got the message to go away, now! If she was "stalking" him, and meant him harm, the hiker would be dead. Lesson learned : you see a baby _anything_ while out hiking, leave the area ASAP! Don't check it out.
Exactly, poor guy turned that corner and knew exactly what was up, for being caught totally by surprise he kept remarkably cool headed, that momma was also clearly focused on protection rather than attack, both sides played their part reasonably well honestly
@@jessicagislason4855 He did keep his head! - he didn't run, and that's the first thing many would do. The one mistake he made was thinking the kit he saw was a bobcat, and stopping to look at it. This is something he admitted to, and knew he messed up. But I'm glad no one was injured or killed. And maybe some people out there will know what and what NOT to do while hiking. And be alert.
When hiking in the woods, it's always recommended to bring along a friend who runs slower than you.

This would be so insanely terrifying especially having to walk backwards, I wouldn’t think that’s super easy on a rocky trail and with your nerves being on the edge. Glad he made it out okay.
He had a dirt road. In 2006, I had to climb backwards uphill for quite a trek. Heart racing and calves and quads burning. Never stopped or slowed with that adrenaline though. Amd the hill had a steep grade for walking backwards
I had an odd encounter with a huge lone wolf . While walking my pit bull off leash about 2am in the summer near the Illinois River. My dog was about 30ft ahead of me. When out of the darkness appears the silhouette of a huge dog. Either a Great Dane or Irish Wolfhound. But as it got a little closer to my dog. It looked like a giant German Shepherd or Husky. I started thinking it was the biggest German Shepherd I've ever seen. Then it got a little a closer & couldn't believe my eyes. That it was wolf, once it realized my dog was with me. It turned and disappeared into the darkness. When I got home & looked online. It said a wolf had been sighted a few months earlier. In the county just north of mine. I've seen several coyotes before up close and it wasn't a coyote.

yeah, I think it's where her babies were. Basically her territory so she was just trying to scare away a "predator" or a threat to the cougar and her babies.
I read that mountain lions have a territory of 8 miles.
She just didn't want him around her babies.
True, she's chasing him away from her territory and cubs. Aside from that she didn't attack him because he faced her. This is where the saying: "You never take your eyes of a predator" kicks in. So many people run away from any predator that comes charging towards them that is literally the worst thing someone could do. You can't out run them, even if you do you are at your most vulnerable because you leave your back and neck exposed and can't fight back.
That mountain lion mum, wasn't stalking the guy. She was protecting her cubs, chasing him away, because she saw him as a threat. Get the f... away is what she's saying in her way too. Great handling of the situation on his part.

it really helps that cougar just feels threatened or he enters cougar territory, cougar will be afraid if there are dating sounds or humans against
read any trail book in the Rockies, it always says when confronted with a lion, be big and scary!
That's the smart thing to do. If you turn and run, you die. A cougar or a bear is faster and stronger than you. You will not escape it. You have to convince the creature that attacking you could be dangerous, that it's not worth their time or chance of suffering injury to engage. So you yell, scream, stand big, widen yourself, etc. Anything to make it run off.

Beautiful place to get mauled.
it’s like a movie, a dainty little cub just sitting there and you get closer then mama comes out 😂
Ill NEVER go hiking without a gun.
The key to surviving a cougar attack is telling it that you're big and scary.
I wanted to throw a rock for him. Pick up a big stick and scream like a wild woman.
@@linguinepast3743 😂😂
😂😂😂😭that's not funny
Got it.
@J Leicht Once you threw one... *coffin dance music*
That must have been the longest 6 min of his life !!!! I'm glad he made it out of this
6mins there is 10 hours on earth
His underwear didn’t make it
@@bradlafferty6076 you wouldn't make it as well as your underwear if it was you 😂
Most human can actually take on a mountain lion fun fact. A tourist killed one by stomping on its neck not long ago
The best part of the resolution to that encounter is the chance that every future moment of his life, although maybe not lived with exactly that particular intensity, perhaps will be lived with more deliberate purpose.
1:04 me when my mom's single friend starts getting drunk.
😂
My heart was racing so fast for him, it must be so scary!
When he said “GO AWAY IM BIG AND SCARY” hahahahahahaa I love it!
😂
😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Lol
Your photo is disgusting 🤣🤣🤣🥺
This is a great example of why people who trail run or walk should always bring something to defend themselves. That must’ve been so scary.
Well he had his phone...a little bit of Justin Bieber would have sent the cat running...
@@kennethlapointesongwriter3330Heavy metal might have scared that cat too 😆.
It's common sense right? Lmao wait nvrmind........
lol all he had to do was fake rush it. quite a small, malnourished cat. plus there was plenty of rocks around. coulda just cracked its skull. Now if it was a bear.. that's a whole other ballgame xD He'd probably be dead
@@lisabaltzer4190 Exactly, a Darkthrone or Gorgoroth song would have worked.
I am a licensed forester. The very first minute is when you demonstrate dominance and move toward the animal making loud noise. If not, they sense weakness and will stalk you or lay in the brush waiting. This has happened to me TWICE. I carry bear spray but have not used it yet.
She looked incredibly thin. It has to be hard providing for multiple babies. I’m glad the young man did all the right things and both he and momma cat remained safe.
It followed him so long that his adrenaline burned out before the encounter was over. I bet he had a good sleep that night.
5 full phucking minutes before he grabbed the rock!!!
@@MR-nl8xr Bending over in front of a cougar is extremely dangerous, he got lucky.
I bet you the exact opposite lol he woke up in cold sweats plenty times jolting out of his sleep .. this is traumatizing.
Hahaha
Your correct, he had an adrenalin dump the last 100 feet.
Always remember when you walk into nature, you are now part of the food chain. Cougars are ambush predators. They often attack from high ground or trees before even being seen. Never ever turn your back in a situation like this. They know which direction your eyes are facing, they know where your neck is. They go straight for the throat. Very powerful animals.
And faster than most people can imagine.
I want more humans to walk into nature and become part of the food chain.
@@mr.x2567 be the change you desire.
2nd amendment.
You’re always a part of the food chain my guy
Cougar really said 🫲😼🫱
When you're being stalked by any kind of large cat, do NOT EVER break eye contact. Once you do that is when they pounce their prey. Do not look at your phone, don't turn your head etc. Even if it's following you, face it, back away & stare at it in the eyes. Even if it's making noises, or flinching towards you etc.
Thanks
Does throwing rocks help at all to deter her from stalking?
@@josephpark5159 I think that would rile it up and make it angrier.
@@josephpark5159 no the big cats would probally feel threatened dont engage with them unless it ur last choice
I will prob have enough of walking and staring at it I would have to turn savage and chokeslam it.
The way it lifts its front paws off the ground when it charges makes it even scarier
@Fires And Flowers That would be a mistake....it would consider you a bigger threat and kill you.
@Fires And Flowers plus you are putting your self in a vulnerable position
@@octavianrachiteanu3680 no because this is exactly how he got it to flee
@@octavianrachiteanu3680 Someone didn’t finish the video.
@Fires And Flowers I would send lead into it's face.
Yeah, in the original, just before mama walks out, you can see a cougar cub in his path. It was clearly a case of in the wrong place, wrong time. If that cougar had been actually stalking him as prey, he would not have seen her until it was too late. She was clearly trying to intimidate and scare him off to protect her cubs. He was really lucky.
They neglected to say cougar had cubs hiding in foliage behind her.
I can't even begin to imagine how terrifying that must've been. People don't realize just how lucky this guy was. This is why you NEVER walk the woods alone without a weapon.
He had a gun
@@ce4328 no he didn’t cause he said where’s my gun 😭😭
@@naturallytoasty703 Ye he has it prob looking for it 😭😭 watch the vid idiot 💀
I would have fought it's not that big
@@ce4328 You're obviously the idiot. The guy in the video can CLEARLY be heard saying that he wish he had his gun.
I was almost attacked by a cougar once, my survival instincts told me to stop buying her drinks. Luckily I’m here today to share this
