She was loud and aggressive doing false attacks to try scaring him away, because she had babies. When out of the darkness appears the silhouette of a huge dog. Either a Great Dane or Irish Wolfhound. But as it got a little closer to my dog. It looked like a giant German Shepherd or Husky. I started thinking it was the biggest German Shepherd I've ever seen. Then it got a little a closer & couldn't believe my eyes. That it was wolf, once it realized my dog was with me. It turned and disappeared into the darkness. When I got home & looked online. It said a wolf had been sighted a few months earlier. In the county just north of mine. I've seen several coyotes before up close and it wasn't a coyote.

This is where the saying: "You never take your eyes of a predator" kicks in. So many people run away from any predator that comes charging towards them that is literally the worst thing someone could do. You can't out run them, even if you do you are at your most vulnerable because you leave your back and neck exposed and can't fight back.

  • Always remember when you walk into nature, you are now part of the food chain. Cougars are ambush predators. They often attack from high ground or trees before even being seen. Never ever turn your back in a situation like this. They know which direction your eyes are facing, they know where your neck is. They go straight for the throat. Very powerful animals.

  • When you're being stalked by any kind of large cat, do NOT EVER break eye contact. Once you do that is when they pounce their prey. Do not look at your phone, don't turn your head etc. Even if it's following you, face it, back away & stare at it in the eyes. Even if it's making noises, or flinching towards you etc.
