Lyrics:
Another head hangs lowly
Child is slowly taken
And the violence causes silence
Who are we mistaken?
But you see, it's not me
It's not my family
In your head, in your head, they are fighting
With their tanks, and their bombs
And their bombs, and their drones
In your head, in your head, they are crying
What's in your head, in your head?
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie
What's in your head, in your head?
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie, oh
Another mother's breakin'
Heart is takin' over
When the violence causes silence
We must be mistaken
It's the same old theme
In two thousand eighteen
In your head, in your head, they're still fightin'
With their tanks, and their bombs
And their guns, and their drones
In your head, in your head, they are dyin'
What's in your head, in your head?
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie
What's in your head, in your head?
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie, oh
It's the same old theme
In two thousand eight-teen
In your head, in your head, they're dyin'
What's in your head, in your head?
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie
What's in your head, in your head?
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie,
Oh oh oh oh
Ie-ie, oh

  • As an avid lover of the original this song is just as powerful to me. It’s like Bad Wolves’ version of this song is talking TO Delores, letting her know that the world is still the same today as it was when she sung this song for the first time, and that they’re angry about it on her behalf. Every single note and vocal of this song was made with passion, love, and a resounding respect for Delores and her career. Listening to both versions of this song and the message they share is truly something special and I recommend everyone at LEAST give it a listen.

She loved their take on this song, and the plan was that she'd be performing together with Bad Wolves in this video, but could not, due to her untimely death. So what we're hearing here is only part of what was imagined. Also, donating the proceeds to her children is a big thing to a band which is just setting off. As with any business, money is tight at that time.

Her death affected me more than any other celebrity death. • @@_ekyaJ It robs the song of its original context. The original line "since 1916" refers to the Easter Rising/Rebellion of 1916, from which footage is shown in the Cranberries' music video, and how the violence in Ireland has continued up until the writing of the song in 1993 in response to the Warrington bombings. The original wasn't written in 1916 -- it had a specific reason to call back to that date and say "it's been the same ever since." So changing the lyrics to say "in 2018" subverts the purpose of the line as soon as the year changes. Exact same problem the BEP ran into with their lyric choice.

    • I've seen this song touch people the world over. The world now knows a bit of Ireland's pain, but also Ireland now knows that the whole world (sadly) can relate. The alienation and brutality of division and war and the 'collateral' of our children, meaning our innocent selves and future selves as well as our actual children, is the legacy that we as a species must somehow move beyond. Meanwhile, we'll pay tribute with Dolores to each and every memory, as that is exactly what it means to be a human being.

But as I got older and began to understand it more and more, it's impact hit harder and harder seeing the bullshit happening... The songs relevance came much more clearer when the second war in Iraq happened in 2003 and later it came out that there were no WMDs.. And now hearing this with the line "It's the same old theme, In two thousand eighteen In your head, in your head, they're still fightin' With their tanks, and their bombs And their guns, and their drones" It's weight has become even more heavier then ever.. Dolores would be very proud of this cover... RIP Dolores..

  • For anyone who was wondering, the original song was written in response to the Warrington bombings in England in 1993, carried out by The IRA. Two young boys were killed, one was 12 and the other was 3. The 3 year old, Johnathan, was shopping for a card for Mother's Day. The song is about Irish people telling the IRA that enough is enough and asking them "what's in your head?" and telling them that the only war they are fighting is "in your head".
