  • I wish you could have an extended conversation (at least an hour). I am a former U.S. Marine (trained in South Korea for six weeks in 1977) and I have been studying the North and South Korean militaries sine 1994. Your conversation was fascinating and I would love to hear more about your experiences and impressions of your own militaries and of your opposites.

    • @Obama Oppresser it was a clarification that I am not currently in he Corps. I didn't retire, served five years active and reserve. I agree there is no such thing as an ex-Marine. But it is generally recognized as an acceptable term for Marines no longer in uniform. I've been a former Marine for 41 years, which is probably longer than you've been alive. Show some respect sonny. (On reflection, my hasty math is assuredly off. That's the only thing that is).

    • As a fellow (half) Korean, I've thought the same thing. But I think a united and powerful Korea is an idea that China has no interest in seeing come to pass as it would present a threat to its dominance in the East. If Japan could get past their hostilities towards South Korea and vice versa, they could form an alliance and perhaps stand up to China as a unified economic and political force, but that's just wishful thinking, lol.

They are not supposed to think for themselves but fortunately in some situations they will make a decision based on their conscious. Just you and your “beliefs”. MEN will not let that happen and many PARENTS around the world wouldn’t either. People like to possess POWER of others and call it “caring”. Women of the Middle East would mostly leave for better if it were safe to just get up and do so, but alas….😪

  • The internet has a lot of drawbacks. There is a lot of misinformation out there but it is also easy to find the truth if you do your homework. What I believe is the most important aspect of the internet are videos like this, where people from all over the world can learn about the culture and humanity of others. If we could all just value each other as humans and not the color of our skin, the language we were taught, and the piece of dirt that we were born on. It is 2021 and I am still shocked that, even in the U.S., we have racist people full of hate and anger at those who are not just like them. This is a beautiful exchange that brought me to tears. I am not a bleeding heart liberal...just someone with basic common sense. You judge the individual, not the circumstances that were forced on them when they were children.

This hatred has to end and it won’t while the US dictates what Seoul does. President Kim Dae-jung his First Lady Lee Her-ho and Kim Jong-il met in 2000 in Pyongyang and began the process of entente. They had real rapport because First Lady Lee was invited back twice to North Korea by Kim Jong-il and his son Kim Jong-un. Sadly this momentum was lost when all three died

I have often wondered what will happen if the North opened their border to the South and the rest of the world, would it be total war or would the North Koreans hesitate to cross over without being shot at or killed. How would the North Koreans act? I would like to see more of this and I hope more videos are made with North and South. I really wish that the North Koreans could be told and shown that outside people and Countries are welcoming and that Americans are not savage people like they are taught. No Country is aiming for was with North Korea as far as I know, and it is such a shame that those people are missing out on so much, even missing out on food that is available. I hope to find that there are many more North Koreans escaping to other parts of the world, they would certainly have a happier life, especially those that are not at the top.

Like I stand ALL PLACES, ALL RACES, ALL GENDERS, ALL SEXUAL PREFERENCES, ALLLLLLLL HAVE DEALT WITH RACIAL HATE, CRIMES, AND MORE AND ALL HAVE DEALT WITH GOOD LOVELY THINGS IN THEIR COUNTRIES. In our country we just had a white kid placed on trial, labeled a racist, attacked, hit, beaten, a gun to his head, while a mob was trying to kill him. THEN the world before the facts told everyone he was purposely trying to kill blacks. THEN still over a year later they're still calling this child a racist while also saying, "HE KILLED MY PEOPLES, ALL MY PEOPLES, MY BLACK PEOPLES." OVER A YEAR LATER.... They're all white, all self defense, and even the surviving witness took the stand under oath and said he attacked with a gun this boy who was running away from everyone FIRST. THEN in my country they let a mass school shooter go free who's an adult gang banger who shot up a school, shot 4 people, unloaded 7-8 bullets into a 15 year old child purposely to kill him and striking him 4 times into a coma, hurt a pregnant staff, shot a white teacher, hurt more kids, fled, got off on any normal school shooter would've got, got NO live coverage because he's black, went instantly free, no trial, got a party, and gofundme for HIS therapy after his family lied to the world claiming he's bullied. As if that's an excuse to shoot everyone. THEN after all liberals and BLM excused this adult school shootes behaviors while calling the white minor a racist who went to trial. The black chief came out saying the school shooter wasn't bullied, he's into gang activites, took it into school, and tried to murder people. He's FREE, NO TRIAL.... ALSO CHECK OUT RUINEDLEONS CHANNEL... HE'S A BLACK MAN SHOWING HOW RACIST AMERICANS ARE... He's giving the articles, comments, where to find everything, the whole story, and more.... all that is doing these KKK, Ni**a, racial remarks scaring the world came back all black. What about everything the Republican have done?? Lots of dark paths in both parties. The funny thing is that we were built on the belief that "Together we stand. Divided we fall". I do wish we could save them and he can have his little fits in his little bubble all by his lonesome. his tyranny is ridiculous.

  • You can still hear the anti American tone in the North Korean defectors response. Considering he has been in South Korea for 14 years it shows just how strong that propaganda machine in North Korea really is. While being stationed in South Korea (a long time go) I remember leaflets falling down from balloons from North Korea, some in English as well. They were telling the South Koreans how bad the Americans were and offering both Americans and South Koreans a "great life' in North Korea, trying to get people to defect to North Korea. At the DMZ there used to be propaganda offers of money, girls and a luxurious lifestyle for any troops defecting to North Korea. As most people know, there have been a few defectors from the US to North Korea and some of them have a very interesting story. At this point, the only thing keeping NK from totally collapsing and the West from just walking in and freeing the North Korean people is China. They do not want the US directly on their border and that's what would happen if the two Korea's unified. Hopefully, the two nations will reunite sooner rather than later. Of course, it will have to happen slowly, the border cannot just be opened up without limitations because the South would be flooded and not have the resources to handle the mass influx.

    • @@JA-ru3il Being in Canada you have been living under American protection your entire life, whether you admit it or not. Have you ever been to North Korea or South Korea? I have, I was there for several years. The contrasts are unimaginable. Ask the South Korean people if they appreciate US protection. You've been living under the free umbrella that's been provided for you by America and like most modern people today, you choose to bash. What do most people know about trusting American protection? You just repeat what the media and the Hollyweird culture tells you to repeat. You would either be speaking German or Russian if it wasn't for America, but hey, that's not cool today. What do you know? about suffering? You're in Canada, you just read about suffering and you spout rhetoric that you personally know nothing about. Speak to some survivors from WWll about American protection, especially some Jewish people. Speak to some older Koreans about American protection.I have served with Canadians and they do not talk like you do so it's all quite clear. There are far too many sheep in this world.

  • I still hope that somehow, someday, North and South Korea can reunite. Unfortunately, I'm not sure where that path can be found. Aside from the major external Communist/Capitalist power players pushing their pressure, how can the North Korean people spontaneously shake off decades of brutal dynastic rule and decades of abuse, poverty, isolation, and brain-washing... how?

    • Because in North Korea when a member of a family commits a crime or betrayal they dont just punish the individual but also the generations of the family that came before and after, and sometimes future generations. He defected which can be punishable by death, so while it is hard for the average N.Korean to get access to outside media it does happen and the government does have some members whom look for this type of content online, so even though they dont likely have many databases with photos or facial recognition he probably wants to limit the odds that someone who might see this could match him to family whom is still there. I hope this makes you think twice before questioning his character.

I am so grateful to have been born where I was but it's just so random it really makes you think.

    • @@maggieminto3035 I'm sorry if I mistook your genuine question as an attempt to question his character. I don't know if they have to change names or not, though I probably would. I've watched a fair amount of videos from this channel since I came across it because I previously watched a lot of documentaries about North Korea and it was recommended as a result. It fascinates me how isolated the citizens are from the outside world, and every so often I watch a few videos and it really makes me feel grateful when I start to take things for granted. There was a video on here a couple weeks ago with a woman named Choi Geum young and she is talking a man from the Netherlands whom traveled in North Korea and saw the capitol, Pyongyang. She shared that she had never been to the capitol because she was born and raised in a village that was essentially like a prison camp. Her grandfather spoke out against Kim Il-Sung during the Korean War and after the war ended in 1953 he was made a political prisoner. Ever since that time, nearly 70 years ago, her family has lived in that same prison village and she said they weren't allowed to leave that village or travel within the country. You are correct about the randomness. I'm an American and my grandfather went to Korea when the US fought with the South Koreans to protect their freedoms. It's wild to think that some people are still living in prison camps because of events that transpired around the same time my grandfather was coming home safely and as result my father would eventually be born to a much better life.
