Ronaldo never made it because he carries his entire team. Portugal has had some okay players, but far from what Argentina has been stacked with. We don't even expect Portugal to make it to the world cup, let alone win it. BUT we DO expect Argentina to win and only partly because of Messi. While stat wise Messi is the GOAT and there's no denying it. Losing the WC final is an asterisk beside his legacy. It would've been great to see Ronaldo in a final to compare, but Portugal has never really been a contender. I think Messibreally hurt his chances to be truly prepared for this WC by going to an inferior league. He's not really used to fighting for the win anymore and he's never really been one to shine in critical situations. If Messi doesn't win WC, he'll always be compared to Ronaldo instead of standing on top of the mountain alone. Messi's legacy can be at stake if he retires without a WC trophy. Robaldo has a Euro trophy, which is the most difficult to get aside from the WC, so he's gone about as far as he can with the team he has. I prefer Ronaldo because I find him more exciting to watch, but I recognize that Messi stats are better. I can't believe this is pretty much the end for these two. We should be thankful for all of the great moments they've given us. Very sad indeed.

Whenever the debate is up it always reduces himself to a numbers and trophies comparison. That's what bothers me the most about this debate, the lacking of field analysis. Messi has kept his form for so long exactly because he's professional, determined and trains hard. He has not settled for the talent he was born with. Meanwhile, CR7 during his younger days was known as a skillful dribbler and playmaker mostly, which you don't accomplish without lots of talent. You also don't get to bloom into one of the most prolific goal scorers in history with dedication alone. One thing is to say Messi is more natural WHEN COMPARED to Ronaldo, or that Ronaldo trains EVEN HARDER than Messi. Another thing is to say one is "PURE talent" and the other is "PURE training". You don't stay on top for a whole generation with just one or the other. They're both talented hardworkers.

Ronaldo IS the GOAT. The fact he was able play for 4 teams in different leagues and countries and be a champion and star in each place is what makes Cristiano so special. Whereas Messi played for Barcelona for years, he played it safe and never challenged himself outside of Barcelona. It’s only now at the end of his career did move to a different club. Cristiano has the most followers on Instagram in the world and has made the most money from sponsorship deals for a reason, he’s the 🐐!

Cristiano is like both Kobe and LeBron. Like LeBron he’s an athletic freak with a terrifying combination of size, speed, and power that’s ideal for his sport. Like Kobe he’s fully capable of being an incredible passer, but has a score first mentality. He’s capable of doing/copying all the skills and moves in the book with impeccable footwork and ball skill as well as move efficiently and relentlessly off the ball. If Messi doesn't win WC, he'll always be compared to Ronaldo instead of standing on top of the mountain alone. Messi's legacy can be at stake if he retires without a WC trophy. Robaldo has a Euro trophy, which is the most difficult to get aside from the WC, so he's gone about as far as he can with the team he has. I prefer Ronaldo because I find him more exciting to watch, but I recognize that Messi stats are better. I can't believe this is pretty much the end for these two. We should be thankful for all of the great moments they've given us. Very sad indeed.

Messi has kept his form for so long exactly because he's professional, determined and trains hard. He has not settled for the talent he was born with. Meanwhile, CR7 during his younger days was known as a skillful dribbler and playmaker mostly, which you don't accomplish without lots of talent. You also don't get to bloom into one of the most prolific goal scorers in history with dedication alone. One thing is to say Messi is more natural WHEN COMPARED to Ronaldo, or that Ronaldo trains EVEN HARDER than Messi. Another thing is to say one is "PURE talent" and the other is "PURE training". You don't stay on top for a whole generation with just one or the other. They're both talented hardworkers.

Ronaldo IS the GOAT. The fact he was able play for 4 teams in different leagues and countries and be a champion and star in each place is what makes Cristiano so special. Whereas Messi played for Barcelona for years, he played it safe and never challenged himself outside of Barcelona. It’s only now at the end of his career did move to a different club. I think Ronaldo made a mistake leaving Real Madrid as he would’ve won more awards. The same with Manchester United, as they were simply not the team they once were years ago.

Ever since Ronaldo left Spain in 2018, Messi never scored against Real Madrid again this is how much Ronaldo motivated Messi to play better. Without the rival Ronaldo, Messi just played confortable football. That's why I respect Ronaldo, he doesn't need anybody to motivate him, he has the right mindset to motivate himself. At 38 every single game to him is like a final, Messi never had and never will have that hunger to win that Ronaldo still has.

He’s capable of doing/copying all the skills and moves in the book with impeccable footwork and ball skill as well as move efficiently and relentlessly off the ball. He’s just as hardworking as either of them. And he’s as clutch as can be.
