This is absolute genius as it allows me to appreciate both the exterior and interior of my wonderful peugeot car, walking around the outside of it to the passenger door and climbing over my seats to unlock the central locking from the inside. • +shad0wpk02 Pretty straightforward if you're used to roundabouts already. Same as a standard roundabout, except there are two. Just yield whenever you have to cross a yield line, else you have right of way. And use them turn signals :) There are a few of these in France, usually on weirdly shaped intersections in which a perfect circle wouldn't fit, or just for technical traffic flow reasons: It offers a shortcut for cars that want to take a left onto the busiest of both roads without crossing the path of the cars coming from their right. (in a scenario where cars drive on the right side of the road like continental Europe) Here's an aerial shot of one in Nantes, FR: www.google.fr/maps/@47.2332506,-1.5658303,93m/data=!3m1!1e3

  • At some point my 206 developed an amazing feature: if you wanted to use the indicators the headlights must be turned on. Also the CD player had an AI feature which allowed it to only play the disks it preferred. Lastly, the battery failed in two occasions when we needed to return home from holidays. It was such a great car that I gave it for free. I advised the new owner (first car buyer) to use the money he was supposed to pay me for a thorough service inspection.

  • To be fair, the 407 took the beating well, by the look of it. The damage wasn't that bad. I actually owned a 407 and liked the design at the time. The ride was very comfortable too. And.... let's not forget that Richard Hammond gave it a glowing review for Top Gear when it came out (series 4, episode 10) :)

    • They're not bad. Top Gear is full of crap. Clarkson actually praised the 206 as a good car in one of the earlier seasons when it was launched. And the 206 is Peugeot's best selling cars ever. Nothing wrong with them. Was my first car too and I bet thousands of other around the world. Don't believe Too Gear. It's just a TV show for entertainment. Clarkson and May don't have to bother with Peugeot. They can troll it was much as they want. Because they have millions to buy Ferraris and Lambos

  • My first car was a 2003 Peugeot 307 with a 1.4L petrol and manual, 5 speed gearbox. I got it for £500 from my driving instructor and what a heap of junk it was. It had electrical faults and the wiring in the steering wheel was gone, it’s battery died and it’s engine temp sensor kept playing up. But I can’t deny that, despite that, it still kept going and mechanically rather than electrically, it was sound. I never had to replace anything mechanical on it. It also did have the quirk of repairing some parts of itself. The climate control fan stopped working once but then just started working a few days later, the boot lid wouldn’t latch for a time then one day just did and the right indicator stopped and started working several times in two trips. I replaced it on my 21st birthday with a Dacia Sandero diesel which is serving me well to this day but I do feel a soft spot for the 307 and I still miss the old Peugeot despite its shortcomings. In the future, I want to get a 307 again, not as a daily runner but just to have it so I can remember that old car that served me as my first. It was sent for scrap when I exchanged it so I was the last owner of that car and the one to break 100,000 miles on it.

  • I had a Peugeot 106 back in the ‘90s, and I’m sure it had been given the soul of a worried Grandma. It was without doubt sentient, and constantly trying to keep me from coming to harm with the following features: The “ticker” for the hazard warning lights would randomly sound - giving you an audible reminder that danger may be just around the corner. It would occasionally make the wipers park themselves past the a-pillar on the driver’s side, meaning you couldn’t open the driver’s door. You had to exit the vehicle on the (much, much safer, as it was away from passing traffic) passenger side. It would chew any cassette tapes that included “rock” music. Queen? I don’t think so Son - that might make you drive like a maniac. Chomp, chomp on that tape! A tailgate that would fly open if you went over a bump on a motorway. This necessitated pulling over to close it, and allowing you to reconsider driving at the speed limit of 70mph, like a maniac. A spare wheel that was carried in a metal cradle under the boot floor. This rusted until it was seized in place, forcing you to take the much safer option of ringing for the RAC to tow you away, rather than trying the dangerous move of changing your wheel at the side of the road. Chronic unreliability, which had a two-fold benefit. Firstly, you can’t drive it if it’s broken down and secondly, even when it’s fixed it’s used up most of the money you’d have otherwise spent on fuel. This kept you off the dangerous road network of the UK for as long as possible. A complete refusal to start on frozen mornings, so you couldn’t drive on icy roads. A complete absence of horsepower - meaning you couldn’t dream of attempting any risky overtakes. It was a 1.4 non-turbo diesel. A relay that would regularly fail when you put the headlights onto main beam. This left the lights on main beam, no matter what you did with any controls. Therefore you could ALWAYS see the road ahead of you. A radio that, no matter what you did with it, always gave you traffic alerts from the local stations. Whether you wanted them or not. This repeated bombardment of where accidents had occurred on local roads meant that you instinctively knew all the accident black spots after a short while. A tilt and turn sunroof that occasionally came off its hinges when you tilted it up as you were driving along. Again, a twofold benefit - 1) you had to continue holding this piece of tinted glass in your hand while you slowly coasted to a halt - reducing your speed and increasing concentration in one move, and 2) it was often just easier to take it out completely, leaving a fair-weather escape hatch in the roof of the car. I christened this car imbued with a nervous Grandma’s soul “Elsie”. She looked after me well in the four years I spent with her.
