How Many MUSKIES Can One TINY Creek Hold???

I woke up early and hit a creek for some spring musky fishing in western PA. Weather was partly cloudy with a high of 80 F. The water temperature was in the high 50s to 60 F. Muskies were spread throughout the creek and spawning muskies were observed in shallower sections.

  • To any concerned: 1. This is purely a stocked fishery so catching and releasing musky here during spawning has zero effect on future numbers of fish. The musky will spawn and lay eggs etc., but the eggs will become buried/suffocated because there is too much algae (due to agricultural runoff). Among gamefish this problem is specific to musky and walleye, which is why many places in the US have to regularly stock those species. 2. Muskies are not easier to catch during the spawn. If anything it’s harder because, even though you see a lot of musky, actively spawning muskies are not eating and muskies also don’t make beds or guard fry. Yes you can still catch some because they don’t all spawn at the exact same time…but it’s harder because a smaller number of the fish in the area will be actively feeding. For this reason alone I wouldn’t even have gone if I knew they’d be spawning this late in the year but I don’t regret it because I ended up with some very cool footage. Thanks for watching.

    • Also very weird they spawn this late.. like i know how pike usually spawns in februari/march (that s because their offspring needs to be big enough in april/may to eat the offspring of other fish species.. thats why pike is so succesfull.. (id imagine a normal musky would also spawn a lot earlier..cause they are related and stuff).. also pike usually spawns in the weeds/near shore... they dont spawn in gravel like a trout would..

I've never experienced anything like it and totally understand why my friends have become so obsessed with it over the years. I used to use 130 fluoro but switched to steel mainly because I use a lot of jerk baits and glide baits - they get better action for me on steel and the jerkbaits will dive deeper. • I appreciate that!! I’m not naming particular spots on here but if you’re local you can go to go to fishandboat.com and see what water bodies around you have muskies - sometimes the smaller creeks aren’t listed but if they’re connected to larger water bodies with muskies then they may be worth a shot

      @absoluteunitmedia@absoluteunitmedia Жыл бұрын
    • @kenanthony7361 I’ll give you a better response. If you are fishing small creeks try to find anywhere there is a waterfall. They tend to hangout right underneath them. Or if you find a place where a lot of rocks are in the water where it is super shallow and then opens up I’d fish the front of those rocks where the water is rolling off. The creek I fish has a huge waterfall with a decent size pool before it hits the “rock road” as I like to call it. The rocks have a bunch of holes where the musky hangout at. Also don’t underestimate a good glidebait. Save yourself some money and buy the xps bass glidebait. Don’t get the musky one. The bass glidebait catch just as many musky and it’s cheaper! Also a medussa mini has been a big part of my arsenal. If you want to find musky use google/google maps. First look up what waterways your area has that has them. Then you’ll want to go to google maps, find the lake, and follow any creeks that come out of it. Some of my best spots have came from using this tactic! Best of luck!
