  • Timothy Synder is an expert in Ukrainian history, adjacent to Poland, and the Balkans. And, rarity for an historian to recognize the waves of which history breaks on the shores of today. Our current path is not playing out in rhythm, it is repeating.

  • Actually, it's Dr. Timothy Snyder (D. Phil -Oxford) but the truly great ones don't need titles.

    @Jeanne90275@Jeanne90275Ай бұрын
    • PhDs are much more numerous than professors, and getting a professorship takes much longer and is much more difficult, to cut a long story short. Not to mention that you can hardly find a professor who is not a PhD, at least in the branches that award PhDs. Therefore, the title of professor should take precedence.

  • The professor is right about linkage, and he has always been so eloquent and convincing on the need to be unafraid of helping Ukraine to inflict a decisive military defeat on Russia...So it's a bit of a mystery as to why he thinks Hamas ought to be exempt from this same treatment.

    • Snyder is literally a leading scholar of Ukrainian far-right nationalism. People like that exist in every country and it's not surprising that when Ukraine is invaded groups like the Azov batallion act to defend their country and rise in prominence. Snyder points out that far-right parties in European liberal democracies have more political support and influence than far-right parties in Ukraine, which is under attack.
