well well well is it time for a cherry mx brown v2 review?
plot twist: it's worse
it's always time for browns
After all these year
Please be gentle senpai
fuck ya it is
Your press brief says "CHERRY, synonymous with unparalleled precision". But why do we always have to fix the housing tolerances by adding films to fill the literal slop?
because they were precise in being off every time
@@HipyoTech 💀
@@HipyoTech hipyo woke up and chooses violence 💀
I guess if it works it works
And you didn't even mention the stem wobble even when using films.
damnn super excited for this to release!
gotta love seeing innovation
🤩
I think this release is great, but just a few questions: 1: Will older Cherry MX springs be compatible with MX2A switches? 2: Will samples of these switches be sent out to keyboard streamers? 3: Will MX switches other than the most popular ones (red, brown, blue, black) get a MX2A version? Such as silent blacks and clears. 4: Will non-factory lubed versions be available?
That's a yes for all questions except for point 4 😉 At the moment, there are no plans to offer non-lubed variants. But we will see what the future will bring...
Sounds like an ultra sonic cleaner would solve this problem. I’m sure that they’ll release a truly stock version in the future. This is just the first one lol
keyboard streamers? .. guess there is a stream for everything today.. keyboard stream in a hot tub? ..
@@K4ninchen there are people that stream themselves building custom mechanical keyboards to dozens, if not hundreds of people :)
@@BreathOfDustboohoo most switches are factory lubed already and require hand lubing regardless.
yeah i’m good i’ll take nylon hyperglides
all black nylon version as well?
I hope theres a version that caters to the custom community, like a red with full black nylon housings
Looking forward to trying these
🙌
What are the spring weight/length tolerances? Will previous standard cylindrical springs be compatible?
Yes, the metrics will stay exactly the same as in the previous versions!
@@cherry_mx What a shame. Shouldn't you always be pushing, the standard, move the tolerance digit? Demand more of your suppliers?
Is a Clear version coming later too? Especially in RGB flavor? I'm all in with my DROP edition RGB Clears but I'd love to get my hands on an updated version to see how they feel
We do not comment on possible future products, I'm sorry.
Screams in Alps SKCM/SKCL and IBM buckling spring
waiting mx3a that will (i hope) be literally ALPS :DDDD
Just ordered a batch of silver switches. I am the excite.
-Is this going to replace the current MX1A hyperglides? If so that's a real shame for people that want to do their own lubing...- Well I see you confirmed in another comment that it is replacing MX1A. Although I doubt it'll happen hopefully there'll be a unlubed version released at some point.
OR. . . hear me out . . . you could un-lube and then lube them
I really hope Cherry could pioneer a ball-contact switch and hotswap design so we never have to worry about bent pins ever again :3
Good idea but not sure how it’s going to work with 3 pin hotswap without standoffs
@@polynotgone8349 Make the middle fat pin clip-in like TX stabs, maybe? I dunno.
bro gave the switches the IMAX treatment
NICE! CONGRATULATIONS FOR THIS INDUSTRIAL ICONE CHEERS! :)
They finally making a new spring after 40 years, guys. It finally happened.
Is this a new switch that suppresses scratch noise? I have a feeling that I can expect more than Gateron.
Hi! Yes, it is completely new. :-)
Tell us about the hall effect version, or you will once again play second fiddle to Gateron.
Got my hands on the new Cherry MX2A Blacks and they are absolutely amazing. Eliminated all previous issues with hyperglide tooling using GMK keycaps (small percentage compromised of binding & gripping issues). These are smooth and consistent throughout all the switches, and they are snappy!
will hyperglides be discontinued then?
Yes, the MX1A generation will be discontinued. As for hyperglides in the MX2A generation, we can't comment on future possibilities 🤭
Wunderschön mir ist einer abgegangen 🎉😮
Pleaaaaaase i need help 💔 I have " corsair K60 pro rgb low profile " With cherry MX Silver speed Can i buy custom keycaps OEM profile and put it in my keyboard is that gona work or no I know OEM is big in size but i cant buy lp .. soo OEM profile work with my keyboard ??
Any profile keycaps will work as long as the keycap set is MX compatible. OEM keycaps will work. Your stock keycaps are OEM profile already.
Plently of other switch manufacturers already did that improvements, and even more, to make their products actually good, without calling it REVOLUTION.
Who else have made these design changes?? I havent seen any springs or convexed stem seats in other switches before..
@@CryoftheProphet the innovation brings no merit, the big picture is to see if this improvement solves all the issue that plaques cherry switches in general. They are by far the worst stock switches you can use for the price right now. They are actually playing catching game when other manu already went through this process and understand that playing with plastic material yield better results.
@@navinnaido3203 There isn't anything better than Cherry switches on the market.
is it smooth like the gaterons?
@cherry check sanwa arcade buttons ther are excellent ,
pogchamp!
Now all you need to do is fix the cherry keycaps to end the south facing LEDs madness.
That's a pretty easy fix with a slightly more angled top housing. Gateron and Kailh have already solved this.
I'm not talking about the switches, I'm talking about the keycaps. South facing leds are stupid and the whole cause is the cherry profile.
@@ThePazuzu Well, the cause is also the switch housing design. It’s pretty easy to design a compatible top-housing mold, as other manufacturers have done it. Not sure about the MX2A. Obviously Christmas Tree keyboards weren’t a thing when Cherry designed their switches and keycaps.
Finally! Looks awesome, can't wait to try these out! When will they be available to purchase?
We will keep you updated about the roll-out 😊
"The MX2A is not just a switch; it's a revolution…" And then they give us a list of minor tweaks, none of which are unwelcome, but… Hardly what I'd call a revolution. It's nothing like, just for an example, when Kailh went back to the drawing board and designed BOX switches.
Box switches are not that great, clearly..
Nobody really uses box switches though…
plenty of people use box switches@@BreathOfDust
As someone with a bunch of box jades in my cart, why are they not good and what's the best and clickiest switch out there?
@@ThePazuzu I would get the zeal clickers over the jades, I did a build with jades and they were definitely tactile but loud and uninspiring.
Spring is stainless? Or at least not pingy?
Yep, stainless steel and improved acoustics thanks to various measures.
@@cherry_mx thanks für your answer.
Glazing
A factory unlubed version and compatibility with regular mx springs would be welcome.
Thanks for your feedback. You can swap the springs, no worries.
would still probably require spring swapping
Honestly I would prefer an unlubed version of mx2a, the excessive amount of lube on the spring gets into the center hole and kills the sound and feel, it's gonna sound like lube and the bottom out is gonna feel wet and squishy
@Cherry MX, you guys going to show the blue clicky's the same love and improvements?
Blues only lack the lube, all other measures are included, though
Interesting, I curious to see the improvements to brown or tactile equivilant of the "MX2A" line up will be like since browns are considered one of the least desiable tactiles on the market
Browns being undesirable is a meme.
Browns are considered unironically undesirable by the most clueless people in the hobby.
If you go deep enough into the hobby, you come full circle to Cherry switches being uniroically really good switches. You just have to be willing to put in the work.
@@lmarcii They're a slightly less smooth version of the already-scratchy Cherry MX Red "linear" switches. What's desirable about them?
Please give more love to the low profile / silent enjoyers!
More to come 🤫
waiting for MX3A, when it would look like ALPS.
where can i buy ?
We will keep you updated!
What is the spring weight? (The gram force required to bottom out the switch)
The metrics are the same as with the previous generation of our switches 🙂
Maybe a few for testing purposes 😂
A friggin' trailer for a keyboard switch. Damn we are such nerds. I love it!
Hyped
Yo. Cherry. When are you gonna improve your click-jacket mechanism?! It's been mediocre for the past decade or two already. Make the sound less plasticky, and a bit quieter.
nice, hopefully it lives up
💪🏻🍒🍒🍒💪🏻
i bet 10 euro that they still can't compete with even the most basic JWK, haimu, jixian, jerrzi or any of the other name brands nowadays. 90% of these are just basic MX features, nothing we haven't seen before. but i'd still take a batch of full red proto housings xD
those are clones, this is the OG you called them "better" because you're subjectively perceived them as better somehow
@@chrom4ful every other manufacturer out there beats them in every single aspect. smoothness, stem wobble, housing wobble, sound (subjective, but my opinion), willingness to work with and help the community (remember, the entire hobby would not exist in the way we know it now if it wasn't for "clones"), materials, variety in tactile bump profiles, variety in pole lengths and actuation distances, variety in colors/themes and even something as simple as spring ping or innovation. the ONLY reason people are still even considering cherry is because they are cherry and because some people like the sound. everything else is below average for todays standards and that's an undeniable and objectively true fact. any base-line bottom of the barrel switch of the competitor beats cherry in almost every single one of these aspects, and i'm not even mentioning high-end switches.
@@PhantmZero MX style is MX style, you guys "enthusiast" willing to pay how many fold you want for negligible "improvement" wouldn't change the fact that at the end of the day they're all feel samey "high-end" or not, let's be real here. the real progress is new technology contactless switches with adjustable variable actuation, if you want different feeling switches change to actual different non-mx switches
@@chrom4ful ah, the good ol' chyrosran mindset. seems like there is no point in arguing with someone like that. my mistake for thinking it would be different. either way, i'm 50% sure that you've never tried a good switch and 50% sure that you would deny that they are feeling better than any cherry switch anyway, seeing how you're in denial and claim that the differences are "negligible" and feel the same, which is just objectively wrong. and it's funny how you're mentioning contactless switches which, you guessed it, are something that all the cherry competitors have already been doing for years now. they all have optical/magnetic/halleffect switches and what not. like in the very popular wooting 60he which uses gateron lekker switches. some even using clickbars or clickleafs instead of cherry's clickjackets. and your last argument is just stupid. i have over 200 unique switches, from MX-style to SMK to alps to space invaders to futaba and the list goes on, and i still stand by what i said. there are some very unique outliers that have a unique feel or sound that can't be replicated or has not been replicated in MX-style form for various reasons so far, but that's what, 10 switches in total out of a couple thousand? like alps tactiles or futaba tactiles? or the sound of linear space invaders? pff.
@@chrom4ful”it’s subjective” is such a cop out term to valid criticism now. It’s not all subjective, they’re objectively scratchier, more pingy and looser than most 2023 switches. Yeah mx blacks sound great when you give them a full makeover, but you shouldn’t have to do that in 2023.
And then you opened the switch and saw the horrendous amount of pre-lubed inside, yikes.
Cherry MX is the real deal. Trusted, reliable and true. I'd choose them any day over any other brand.
It's probably 3 pins because this isn't made for the enthusiasts to use in their own customs. It's made for big OEMs to use in their mass produced soldered boards. My question is if it will still have north facing interference because they didn't mention that at all. EDIT: Taken from the website "This ensures every keystroke remains smooth and, most importantly, silent." So yeah, I doubt this was made for enthusiasts, especially ones who like to hear their keyboards.
All MX2A will be available with 5 pins, too, as always. This will replace the current portfolio
@@cherry_mx The entire current portfolio? Including special etc?
@@cherry_mx why
So the standard variants for now: MX Red, MX Brown, MX Black, MX Speed Silver, MX Silent Red. MX Blue only lack the lubrication and barrel spring while the Silent Red does not come with the crown.
will they be available with black housings?@@cherry_mx
Good improving and compatible design. Though would awesome to see analog optical switches too.
You guys are finally catching up. It's insane why would anybody buy cherry switches nowdays. We appreciate you being the OG but you guys are just dinosaurs right now when other manu are already playing with material types.
Nah I still buy cherry switches since I love their unique sound. The broken in, lubed, filmed and spring swapped mx browns I have in my Babylon are incredible in both sound and feel
@@Luci_71 lol the amount of work and cost aside they are only for people with specific taste and only goes well with specific board. They pretty much bottom tier in a blind test compared to modern switches.
Thanks for the feedback!
@@navinnaido3203custom keebs are a specific taste lol I don't even prefer cherry switches but I won't deny that a huge portion of the hobby prefers cherry switches.
@@Luci_71 I tried some more modern switches but they just felt so soulless compared to cherry
All of those things and 3 pin lmao why
Every MX switch is also available as a 5-pin variant, so no worries
These new 'MX2A' switches are most likely going to be disappointing, as always. If they just improve their switches to cater to enthusiasts, their profit margins would significantly increase. Because we ethusiasts love the cherry switches and just want them to be good.
Bet they're still pingy
3 pins? Like seriously?.
We offer all variants with 5 pins, too, as always
lekker for the win
