The problem with that, is that the Colorado Avalanche exist. Their mascot is already a yeti plus the shoulder patch is a yeti/Sasquatch foot.
I honestly just hope they choose an original color scheme with so many blue and red teams already. Would love to see a purple team.

Utah Cajuns. Hear me out, this surprisingly makes sense. The term "Cajun" comes from a rural pronunciation of Acadien (Acadian). The Utah Jazz came from Cajun country. The Cajun people arise from deported French Canadians known as Acadien’s. Imagine the Montreal Canadiens vs the Utah Cajuns.
One that really rolls off the tongue for me is the Salt Lake City Stags! It’s a cool name, a deer will go hard on an NHL uniform and you can do a lot with the colors! Hoping for the Stags

I like it. But theoretically, Stags would slip pretty majorly on the ice right? How about the Salt Lake City Seals, or Salt Lake City Sea Lions? I know that Salt Lake doesn't have either of those animals, but I think it would be fun for the fanbase to have a mascot that fits with the concept of living on ice.

The Big 12 will now have two schools called wildcats and two cougars and then a bearcat, as well as a bear, also Raider Red vs Pistol Pete (costume mascots both with guns and cowboy hats, this is not school team names, which are the Red Raiders vs Cowboys), both schools also have horse mounted live mascots in the Masked Rider and Spirit Rider. 😂 not a lot of variety and alot of regionality.

The owners wife picked the name Penguins for two reasons. The aquarium at the Pittsburgh Zoo opened in 1967 and she liked watching the Penguin exhibit. Also the Civic Arena was nicknamed the Igloo and she mistakenly thought that Penguins lived in areas where Igloos were built.

I think the issue with Yeti is Colorado already uses elements of the Yeti/Bigfoot as 3rd jerseys and shoulder pads and a yeti use to be their Mascot and they are geographically so close and will be rivals I just think it would be weird to both share that.
The marketing for the Yeti will be off the charts. Lots of stuff you can do with the logo. You can have a Yeti roar, howl, and a variety of produced sound effects.
I’ve thought about it a lot and have become quite fond of the name The “Wasatch Watchers” with our mascot being an Owl. The arena will probably be going at the point of the mountain, which is a face of the Wasatch front and I thought it would be cool to pay homage to it. I’m asking I could also stay a coyote to be honest with you. We have a lot of yotes
I know it’s a longshot. But I live here and I’ve been thinking about it a lot as a perspective name and came up with the idea of calling us the Wasatch watchers and our mascot could be an owl. We have owls and other raptor like birds here and we are going to put our arena at the point of the mountain, which is a face of a Wasatch front.

Surprisingly, I like the suggestion of Scorpions! Yeti is also good. I love the Edmonton Elks' branding (CFL). It's very clean.

Utah jazz started out in New Orleans so the jazz name actually made sense there. Same thing with the lakers starting in Minnesota, that made sense but when they moved to LA,not so much.
When you said Wolverines. All I could think of is 1980’s Red Dawn. That would be awesome to have the cut of the movie where he yells Wolverines on the Jumbotron would be awesome.

Stinger is the mascot of the Columbus Blue Jackets, so I hope they don’t go with that. The bee is actually the state insect, and Utah is known as the Beehive state.
I like Salt Lake Stingers (or Sting). Outside of Boston, I can’t think of another team off the top of my head with Black and Yellow. They could do like Nashville and have yellow as the main color. Chicago and Vegas are the others with somewhat Black and Yellow(gold) and CHI barely uses yellow.

I know you mentioned Raptors not being an option, but it’s not exactly unheard of for two teams in different leagues to have the same name. Team names like Panthers, Jets, Giants, and Cardinals come to mind immediately as examples of this happening. Utah Raptors sounds the best to me personally.

Rangers is another name used in two sports. Fun fact: the New York Rangers were originally owned by Tex Rickard and called Tex’s Rangers. First logo was a cowboy on a horse with a hockey stick.
In regards to the Cardinals, both the NFL Cardinals and MLB Cardinals played in St Louis at the same time, for 28 years, before the NFL team moved to Phoenix.

Why is copyright an issue with names? You've got the Kings, Giants, Panthers, Rangers all named with more than one team across sports? As long as the team isn't in the same city and sport then I have no idea how any copyright challenge can be successful.

Yeah, wouldn't it be great if we had 25 or so hockey teams named the Giants from all different locations? That would never cause problems with hockey announcers. Or on the scoreboards. Or for the real-life Giants like Barron trump. This is exactly why the Washington Redskins and Cleveland Indians were forced to change their team names.

Some of my choices would be: - Pioneers (there’s a state holiday called Pioneer Day celebrating the arrival of the Mormons to Utah) - Arches (after the national park) - Spikes or Locomotive (after the golden spike from the Transcontinental Railroad) - Skinwalkers (from the famous Skinwalker Ranch) - Cutthroat (after the trout native to the state) - Speedsters or anything related to speed as many land speed records are broken on Utah’s famous salt flats

As some other NHL teams names don't have a direct connection to the city / area, what about something like dragons - good merch opportunities and, from what I can see, not massively utilised in North American
The Utah Ox, SLC Taz, Utah Signals, Salt Lake Golden Spikes, etc
