With the relocation of the Arizona Coyotes to Utah all but finalized, we take a look at what the team name and color scheme should be. What names do you like? Utah Yeti? Salt Lake City Swarm?

Yeti fits great 🔥
Utah Summit?!? All Mountains 🏔️ in the logo and I think different enough from Avalanche!!
Utah Roadrunners. Then if the Coyotes get resurrected they can play the Epic Looney Tunes outdoor game at the ASU football field
thats be sick!!!
Awesome
I disagree, they SHOULD use the purple and teal, and they should use this as a chance to go back to that color scheme
Then what happens when it's out of vogue? They either rebrand or become the Jaguars. Plus, the Ducks own that color scheme in hockey even though they don't wear it anymore.
Utah yeti should be the name
Utah Stingers would be awesome with following the Hive theme for nickname of the arena.
That would be an awesome nickname for the arena. I would take the Swarm over Stingers though.
Charlotte Hornets arena is already called the Hive. Also they use swarm in some of their promotions (Enter the Swarm). The G-League affiliate is called the Greensboro Swarm as well, which never made sense because there are no hornets in the Carolinas
Stingers defintely my fav. The swarm can be the name for the fans.
Not far off the name I was thinking of: Salt Lake City Scorpions....🤔 I like it.
The Stingers is off limits. It belongs to the original Chicago Sting soccer club.
The Utah Phoenix.... oh the irony
😁
The Phoenix Arizona Utah coyotes
That works
😮......... 🤦♂️ 😂😂😂😂😂 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀 dude that would be so Fd up they would drive all the way up just to riot and fight the new Utah fans 😭
@@saturdayswarriorbyu Salt Lake Lakers!
Utah Hive is by far the best name on this list
My favorite bee name.
Utah Hive sounds so gey like a WNBA team
Utah Stingers. The stadium can be the Hive.
Utah Hive? Sounds like a WNBA team; so g***e***a***y
@@debuthunter5389 Salt Lake Stingers sounds more catchy
Racers. (Like from the Salt Flats). Stingers. Roadrunners. Vipers. Colors would depend on which of those names it goes with.
The name would probably be in reference to bees since Utah is nicknamed the Beehive State.
Salt Lake City Punks. Shout out to the 1998 movie
😄
Honestly the Cutthroats is the best name i saw so far i love it (i like fishing )
It's not getting enough love.
No way they're picking Cutthroats. I get that it's a fish but it sounds too violent, especially for Utah. I bet they choose either Hive or Yetis
I like this one too.
Quit being wussies, Cutthroats are badass! 😂 "Too violent"....This is hockey!!! We'll name our NFL team the Cutthroats then!
@@_JellyDonut_cutthroats won't happen especially after the incident with that player who got his neck cut and died in England, it would be in poor taste and would get too much backlash.
Utah Yeti's is the best name!!
Utah Yetis is my favorite so far, but I think Eagles or Vipers would be appropriate for the reasons you mentioned as well. I like Raptors too, but I don't think the presence of the Toronto Raptors in the NBA would be a problem anymore than having the New York Giants in the NFL and San Francisco Giants in MLB, or the St. Louis Cardinals in MLB and the Arizona Cardinals in the NFL. (And in both those cases, one of those two teams was previously in the same city as the other.) And no matter what name they go with, they should use the purple and teal colors like the Jazz previously used (unless they use a bees related name, in which case they go with black and yellow, or Eagles, in which case they should do green and yellow).
I know you can have the same name, I just prefer more originality. It's not a deal breaker for me, but there's also a minor league team in the state with that name.
Raptors (birds of prey) is a great choice. Toronto Raptors is short for velociraptors - a dumb cartoon dinosaur. There is no similarity at all.
@@duckonwater10 Would be an awesome name, but unfortunately, it wasn't included in the final 20 names under consideration.
Im in Utah and when I heard we are getting a NHL team I immediately thought Cutthroat would be a cool name. And im sticking with that name.
I can't believe it's not getting more traction.
@@saturdayswarriorbyu if not the State Fish for the name then my next favorite would be something about the Bees. Stingers, Swam, Hive. I like the pictures I’ve seen of a Bee holding a hockey stick.
Cutthroat would be inappropriate after the Adam Johnson incident.
@@marcpower4167 that’s unfortunate.
And, against the Yetis, if the NBA brings back the Seattle Supersonics/Sonics, they had a bigfoot as their mascot.
Very good point! And the Sonics should definitely come back.
I hope they do have purple as their primary color considering no NHL team currently wears purple as their primary color and it would be unique to them
The Kings use it as an alternate.
Utah team of latter days saints
I'll allow it.
Maybe the Utah Saints?
@@hotwax9376 That's actually not bad but I doubt they would choose anything related to the LDS history of the state, such as Saints or Pioneers
I'm being serious.I kinda of want a professional sports team to be openly religious
Let's also separate Church from Sports, not just the State 😅 I'm not buying 1 ticket if that was their name and I would continue being a hard Calgary Flame fan.
Yetis could work, but I like the Utah Hive better. Saw it on Athletic or something like that and instantly liked it. I am cool with the colors mentioned. They hired a great firm to help them so I am confident it will be something cool. They designed the updated Bucks logo and some MLS kits and do nice work. Excited to see how it turn out. 👍🏾
I hadn't seen specifics on who they hired. I'll have to go look them up.
Salt Lake Sentinels gets my vote. Purple makes sense for a primary, no one else uses it.
Utah Yeti (or Utah Yetis) is fun to say, and think of the merch & jersey options. Seattle faced a similar selection process a few years ago and nailed the name (and thankfully threw out the boomer options - Seattle Metros???)
Metros was in the running because Seattle used to have a hockey team called the Metropolitans. They actually won the Stanley Cup before the NHL came into existence. Personally I think Kraken is the worst name in all of pro sports. I'm hoping Utah doesn't go the mythical creature route with Yetis
Utah Grizzlies
Just whatever you do don't go with Elks. Not only is there already a professional team here in Canada with that name (yes the CFL is actually a professional league), but also the moment they changed the team name from Eskimo's to Elks they started a North American professional sports record home losing streak that lasted 22 games from Oct 12, 2019 to Aug 27, 2023
I dig the Utah Yeti! But, if we’re going with a bee-centric name, I think Utah Swarm works.
I could live with Swarm. Maybe nickname the arena the Hive.
I prefer Stingers. The fans are the swarm.
Swarm sounds like a wnba team
No bees please ... just say no to bees
utah venom is clearly the best suggestion so far!
Yeti is ghastly !!!!!
I would like to bring a nickname from an old-school program "America's Funniest People". From the files of "Jack Ching Bada Bing" - The Jackelopes". FASTEST I CAN BE. YOU'LL NEVER CATCH ME!!
wouldn't do yeti, but the bee concepts would be easy branding. stadium would be an easy hive theme. Maybe Utah Drones (male bees) I think a bee theme if done right would be a good change of pace.
Good idea
It definitely can be done right, and I'm not completely opposed. I just feel like to bee theme has been overused in Utah. But I like the Drone idea. They could nickname the arena the Hive.
@@saturdayswarriorbyu not being from Utah I wouldn't know, but as a Wisconsinite, I cant get enough cheese-themed stuff.... then again it's just sprinkled in and not the overarching theme of the team, so i see your point. a lot of the nuance and traditions will only come after the public makes it so. Like Gritty everyone in Philly hated it too until others hated it. but the hopes is the marketing can lead the public into coming to the same conclusions organically. As long as the team doesn't flop like the Washington commanders launch it will be successful lol
Here's one nobody possibly thought of. The Utah Spikes. On account of the transcontinental railroad, it was brought together from both the east and west coast in Utah and symbolized by the driving of a golden spike.
I like and could get behind this one.
Miners doesn’t work when they play the Predators. I like Yeti. Great mascot and fan costume potential
🤣🤣🤣
I'm surprised no one has mentioned this name yet, but I think Salt Lake Sting/Stingers would have such a good ring to it. Keeps the team away from any sort of religious or political dialogue while also paying homage to the state in which they play in (Beehive State) and the city that hosts the team.
Utah Bighorns
That Stinger uniform concept with the mountain peaks & beehive on the sleeves SCREAMED Utah and I loved it! It really represented Utah well. Otherwise, I'm down with the Yeti. Non plural sounds more intimidating for some reason.
Love the stags design. Reminds me of the Yotes kind of
The Utah missionaries
Utah Miscavigie's
No... in hockey there's more than one position
Outlaws, Yetis, or Stingers are my top 3 if you go for a Bears name not Grizzlies go with Kodiaks
Outlaws was my pick for the Thunder, so I'd be down with this.
Grizzlies sounds better than Kodiaks, since KODIAK refers to Alaskan subspecies..... Google the Utah Grizzlies logo, it is sooooo nice. As a runner up I also love Salt Lake Golden Eagles
@@sampicanoI don't know if Golden Eagles would work seeing as we already have the Golden Knights in Vegas and beyond that, to me it sounds like a college team name to me. (I'm not a fan of the Golden Knights name either)
I don't think there is any problem with naming the team the Raptors just because there is an NBA team there. There are quite a few teams that share nanes across sports leagues: giants, panthers, kings, cardinals, jets, lions, Rangers, etc
Agreed, but it's better when you have something unique. Plus, it would rule out the popular can color of purple, because it's one thing to have the same name, and another to also have the same primary color too. Having said that, it's a great name.
YETI's is BOSS. It's STRENGTH and MYSTICAL.. I LOVE YETI's
Congrats on the 1k. I really like talking uniforms so you have a new sub. Coordinating with the Jazz should be their focus. Definitely gives the city a brand right away also. Pittsburgh is one of only a few cities that have it and while I visited that area quite often for work and it was Black and Yellow everywhere. Cut throats would be sick, but with the way the world is people would take offence. Yeti ( should it be plural? I kinda like no S) is really gaining traction like you said. And so many logo possibilities not only for the primary but a third jersey, outdoor game jersey.
Thank you! I hope to get some more stuff out over the next several months. I also think it's cool when cities coordinate their teams. I also offer Yeti with no "s", but I'm good either way.
Here is my top 5 for team names- Cobras, Venom, Outlaws, Scorpions, Dragons. They need something badass. Hockey is a violent sport. Whatever team name they choose, hopefully the color scheme will be unique. Too many teams wear blue, black, and red.
Agreed with the similar color schemes out there. Outlaws is currently one of my favorites.
Simple: Utah Grizzlies. Create some continuity with the minor league team and then move that team to another town in Utah.
I can't see them using a name that is already used in another sport (Grizzlies, Raptors, Eagles, etc)
I would make a contest. Guess the score of the first exhibition game. Winners are placed in a box and a draw is held. Winning contestant provides team colors primary and secondary as well as the team name. Winner gets season tickets for life.
I love it!
Utah Yeti Swarm/Stingers or Scorpions
You have to admit, it's all about what rolls off the tongue the best... and it's UTAH YETIS ... I'm sorry I didn't like Seattle Kracken when I first heard it, then it really grew on me, and I love it. I believe that's what is happening with Utah Yetis ... if you keep saying it, it just makes sense. It's a short word and rolls off the tongue so nicely. Utah Yetis.
It definitely rolls off the tongue the best.
So it wasn't just a stadium/place change but a team change, so they are not the same team anymore? Do they keep past trophy wins?
Great question that I haven't been able to find a direct answer to. It says all intellectual property stays in Phoenix, but that doesn't really sound like history would be included. But I also saw the move will be more like the Browns to Baltimore, and it that case they did leave the team history behind. My best guess is it stays, and the Utah team will be a completely new franchise just with Coyotes players and staff.
The Stingers was the name of Salt Lake's AAA baseball team before they renamed/rebranded to the Salt Lake Bees. Ryan Smith may need to look into any trademark issues or at minimum discuss this with Gail Miller if they are serious about using this name.
I'm sure they have lawyers looking into all of that. I'm sure they'd be able to figure it out. But I hope they don't use Stingers.
How about UTAH SNOW SQUAWLS??????
Utah Outlaws, or Salt Lake Sasquatch. Color: black, Red, Yellow (almost like Vancouver alts because those are best uni’s in league)
Tornadoes or Twisters, in memory of the storm that swept through downtown SLC back in 1999. It may seem in bad taste to name a team after a disaster, but the Calgary Flames name is derived from their Atlanta origins - the city burned down during the Civil War. A similar theming was imposed for Chicago's MLS team, the Fire. Plus, they'd only be the third team named for bad weather, after the Lightning and Hurricanes.
Salt Lake Zephyrs. I was thinking black and gold colors. Put the golden spike in the p in Zephyrs. Ties into the railroad history of Utah and it is WAAAAY better than Utah Yeti (YUCK)
That was already an NBA team, but nobody remembers them. Also, turns out it refers specially to a west wind. So, that works even better in Utah.
If Seattle can name their hockey team after a legendary sea monster, why not the Utah hockey team? Utah Yetis? Fine with me. Utah does look like Sasquatch country. Salt Lake City did host the Winter Olympics.
Utah Sting. Black, yellow with white trim.
The 5 wives!!
Sounds like it will be Utah Blizzards with an Elk logo
Ugh
Creators work hard on these concepts. Give them credit. I made SIX designs featured in your video.
Good call. I didn't mean any slight to the creators. I'll be more mindful of that going forward. Thank you for the great designs.
It should be the Raptors, It fits perfectly and it is not unheard of for pro sports teams from different leagues to have the same name. (Rangers in the NHL and MLB, Jets in the NHL and NFL, and Panthers in the NHL and NFL come to mind)
I know it happens, but it's so much better when you own the name. But if it is Raptors, I'll love it.
Plus, Lions in the CFL and NFL!
Cardinals in the MLB and NFL as well.
Lions could work too, the mountain lions are popular in the state of Utah. Goats could work because of mountain goats as well.
@@lakerskid2013 problem with that is you’d basically have the same mascot as the Florida Panthers, considering they are basically the same animal.
Big fan of the snake themed team. I also think Snakes is too generic but Venom, Serpents, Cobras? Those would be awesome
why is everyone so obsessed with the name being something specific to utah?? like who gives a shit? there are no lions in detroit but that is a great name anyway
Utah Pioneers feels like an NHL franchise. Lot's of good options. I like the Stingers or Swarm for a bee-like name. And I love the idea of an ancient greek theme with the name Salt Lake Olympians.
My only issue with the name Olympians, rumors are saying SLC is bidding for the Olympics in the future. If they call the team the Olympians it would feel like they're using the team to promote that.
Even the Salt Lake Shakers with or without the word "City" Come On, this is a once in a lifetime moment for Salt Shakers or You are going to be SHOOK up if you try to mess with Salt Lake City!!!!!!
Yeti does not feel like an NHL team
Utah Grizzlies Salt Lake Golden Eagles
Utah Skinwalkers! That would be awesome.
Omg, please let it be that. That would be so awesome
Utah Templers. SLC has Temple Square. Direct rival to Golden Knights
Utah Stinger Hives
They have one of the coolest logos so they should just keep it and re work the color scheme imo
Unfortunately, part of the deal was to leave the name and logo behind.
Utah Wendigo colors Midnight Green, Brown Yellow
I had to look that up. Terrifying.
Like the name and logo potential, wrong region.
That could work. But Wisconsin Windigo already exist in the NAHL. If they go for a cryptid creature, my vote is for the Salt Lake Skinwalkers.
the stormin mormons, and the logo should be a doorbell with lightning bolts
SalT Like City Soundwave. A logo of stylized Bat since bat uses soundwave. Purple and Blue with orange and white hint.
Only two serious options: Utah Wave or Utah Swarm
The Wave?
Im one that gravitates to timelessness. I would definitely choose the raptors and would utilize the raptor footprint as either the main or seconday logo. Just dont make the main logo cartoony.
Love it. I'm disappointed Raptors didn't make the list for the vote.
I definitely vote for Utah Raptors. Makes perfect sense to me, the Utahraptor is the largest known raptor and state fossil. Intimidating and meaningful.
Golden Eagles - Too similar to Golden Knights and Marquette will complain. Blizzard - Good point, I didn't think about the Avalanche Loons - Fits better for Canada since that's their currency Bees or Stingers - Too close to Stinkers, and Columbus Blue Jackets may push back since Stinger is their mascot Utah Raptors - I guess...but Toronto will get mad Cuthroats or Gila Monsters - They won't pick a name that's too hard to spell or not intuitive to say ("Hee-la vs. Gee-la monsters) Names I like Utah Pioneers - though you do have University of Denver closer and that's their mascot Utah Yetis - It's unique and fun and tough, though it is plural or not? I'd make it plural since people will call it the Yetis regardless Utah Elks - The CFL team only recently changed its name from Eskimos to Elks and it rolls well, same deal for the plural Utah Black Diamonds - I didn't think of this one, but it's genius but it is probably too similar to Blackhawks Utah Arches - I didn't think of this one but it makes sense, not really sure what you'd make the mascot here, Archie the...Yeti? Moose? SLC Serpents - Also another good sounding name. Venom is good too but sounds too much like a minor league franchise name. Also, knowing that kids follow hockey now too, I don't think you'd have a ravenous or scary mascot as your primarily logo Gelatins - Moreso for Jello Salad but it doesn't make a great mascot names
The swarm
How about The Utah Surge, Salt Lake Sting, Salt Lake Stingers, Utah Freeze, Salt Lake Scorpions
Surge is a new one.
Maybe like a green and purple or mabye also with a teal colour too. I kind of want to see more green in the NHLdue to the fact the green jersys look the best
There's a fair amount of green in the NHL, at least compared to other leagues (at least off the top of my head).
Utah Rebals sounds good to me
I hear reports part of the relocation contract is that it has to be Utah, something to do with the state maybe support. Eagles, Elk, Raptors not orginal Not sold on Yeti I like the idea of a fish but I doubt Cutthroat would be approved What about Utah Rebellion?
Hadn't heard that about having Utah in the name. That kills all the s alliteration names. Rebellion is cool but might get canceled because of the South in the Civil War.
these are the names i like in order....Utah Raptors (the Utahraptor is the state dinosaur and there are no dinosaur names in the NHL) , Utah Yeti, and Utah Swarm (like a swarm of bees since it's the beehive state)
I like all of those.
Toronto Raptors of the NBA might have a problem with the name Raptors.
They might have a problem with it, but I'm not sure they could do anything about it.
Utah Blizzard with mascot Yeti blue and purple
Solid.
The Salt Lake City Tapirs!
Vipers??
I think it would be cool if they buy the name and color scheme from the Utah Grizzlies. That would be a great NHL team name... and the ECHL Grizzlies could be renamed (happens all the time to minor league teams) to the Utah Yeti, which would actually work out perfectly because they're the ECHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche. If it was only that easy, though 😆
If Ryan Smith wanted to, I could see him making it happen. I get the sense that he wants to leave his own mark though.
I'm with you on the "no double-z" name I like Hive, but would prefer that for the nickname of the arena, and go with Swarm for the team (if going bee-themed) Colors - no light blue, no lime green -- black and copper would be my pick. Alternately, Eggplant purple or Black Cherry red and Copper Utah vs Salt Lake --- probably Utah as it brings the state together I do like Golden Eagles, but with the Golden Knights it seems unlikely (no to just Eagles) I do like Raptors, but I'd doubt that would go with the Toronto basketball team Others I like - Locomotive, Scorpions, Rattlers, Spiders -- Yeti is fine, pretty unique for a major league team Cutthroats is cool, but due to the injury-related sound - probably not
Great comment since we basically agree on everything 😁. The only issue I have with a predominantly black uniform is that it's already used by a lot of teams in the league.
Yeah - black is used a lot --- If copper could be the primary color, I'd like that - with dark purple. I'd like red, black and white - but that, too, seems overdone.
Please do not name it anything to do with a bee or with 2 zz’s in it. Also no purple and no black/yellow. Come up with something original.
Ryan if you happen to see this, please don't miss the opportunity to make a killing will the name The Salt Lake City Shakers, or The Salt Lake Shakers . The merchandise could be phenomenal If you try to mess with Salt Lake City, prepare to be SHOOK UP. Or , SALT Shakers. The only logo has to be Baseball style print. You don't want to put all the integrity on a picture of a Salt Shaker . But the whole package is ripe for the taking
You are really committed to this! I didn't get it at first. I thought it was a reference to something else. Haha, too bad they already said the name will have Utah not Salt Lake.
@@saturdayswarriorbyu oh too bad just like when Phoenix became Arizona Coyotes. They want the whole state to feel a part of the team
Utah Cascades
Utah Skinwalkers should offer some interesting logo options. Along those lines, Chupacabras would be right out of the Kraken playbook, but might fit, while also a bit of a nod to the Coyotes past. From the video, I second Cutthroats as a strong name. The aforementioned Bighorns is also very solid. Bone Collectors is probably too ECHL, but you could go that route on a dinosaur theme if you can't be the Raptors. Condors? Save Golden Spike for a pro volleyball team.
No one else is giving Cutthroats any love. I think it's a great name! Skinwalker probably won't fly because it's pulling from Native American culture, which would be met with backlash from the onset.
@@saturdayswarriorbyuYeah, it looks like Navajos have already had conflict with non-Navajos appropriating the skin-walker lore, so using such a name is virtually certain to be a non-starter.
Salt Lake Saints. As for colour scheme, I think the Coyotes current colour scheme is perfect. If that’s not part of the deal for them to keep the logo and name then I wouldn’t be opposed to Utah using those colours.
I liked when the Coyotes had that red and tan going on for a while before they switched back to their original.
I liked the red and tan too.
The reason I would go with stags because the elk is the national animal of utah
It definitely fits the state.
It should be the velociraptors
The Team should be called The UTAH ULTIMATE Have logo and uni idea
Let's see it!
TOR-PAY!!!!!! How did I not know you had a sports KZhead Channel??? Good job on the review! My vote...Yetis!
Harv-Dawg! Haha, I don't generally tell people about it 😅. I did think I should get your opinion on this.
Hornets works. Cobras?
Utah Diamondbacks would be awesome!
I like Black Diamonds.
Utah Signals, having the television and car radio invented in Utah
Salt Lake Land Lopers kinda like the term interlopers or Outsiders. Even the Salt Lake Slashers since slashing is a penalized action in the NHL and jockey season starts around the Halloween season
Team name - Salt Lake Renegades. Team colors - Red, orange, white
Sad thing is, "Utah Coyotes" would've worked better than whatever they'll come up with.
Either Utah Yetti or Utah Wolverine
Wolverine is very good, but UVU already uses it.
I have joked that I think they should be the mormon.Marauders but to be honest, the hive might be great
