2 more fun facts: 1. Koalas are so dumb, if you remove leaves from the tree they normally eat from to feed them, they won’t recognise it as food because it’s not attached to the tree 2. their mating call sounds like a boat engine starting up

It is a miracle that Koalas are still around from an evolutionary standpoint. They're dumb, their teeth get worn out, they will starve to death, they sleep so much....I mean, their stupidity is somehow their greatest tool for survival. It is truly amazing

not to mention the first koalas probably were just stupid because they were just high all the time from the eucalyptus and the subsequent generations just evolved the smooth brains later, but all just equally high

That spider on the car at the start of the video was a Huntsman, they don't make webs and eat other spiders. They aren't dangerous to people though, so despite their scary appearance and at times intimidating size they are often welcome housemates for many Australians. They are easy to handle as well.
My psychology teacher hates Koalas so much. He gave us an entire PowerPoint presentation of why. IT WAS 30 MINUTES and titled " The general public is wrong about their adoration of Koalas"

Now some might say, "Wow, what a useless animal. I struggle to find an animal that can accomplish less in it's lifetime. How the hell has nature allowed this thing to continue existing?!" The ones in my area prefer to eat the red gum, tallow wood and swamp mahogany of the eucalyptus species of trees, but I've had a couple in my backyard that will also eat mango and Melaleuca trees. Mostly when they get kicked out of their mother's territory they go wandering off to find their own and will basically eat whatever's edible along the way. So I don't think they die from lack of food at least where I am

Forgot to mention that Koalas tiny peanut brains are also smooth, making them even less intelligent than their tiny sized brains would suggest. Extinction seems inevitable for Koalas though, they live on highly flammable trees (Bark falls to create perfect tinder and they release literal fireballs when they get too hot.) in one of the hottest places on earth and are way too dumb to ever be able to avoid a forest fire effectively if they even notice that the trees are on fire in the first place... During a fire, many koalas really resemble the "This is fine" meme.
All species go extinct eventually regardless of the intelligence level or stupidity. We will too some day.

@@dominicmanester8125 "living fossils" doesn't negate my point. 99% of all species have gone extinct. Earth will last another 5 BILLION years. Dinosaurs lasted 160 million years. Trilobites lasted about 200 million. Earth is supposed to be habitable for another billion years. After that the plate tectonics will shut down, which also shuts the magnetic field. I highly doubt humans will last a million years, let alone one billion or 5 billion.
@@amehak1922 The thing those species didn't have that humans do is the ability to go into space. That is the absolute best chance any species could have of outliving the planet. Will it happen? Nothing is for certain, we may well accidentally or intentionally destroy ourselves before that happens.
@@dominicmanester8125 a million years is a long time, a billion years is a thousand times longer. Even if we succeed colonizing Mars, we'd be living in habitats, I highly doubt humans will ever be able to terraform Mars to ever be like Earth.

It's actually a pretty smart plan evolutionarily speaking, no competition for food or housing sources, no natural predators because their diet makes them unpalatable. They’re so sleepy. I met some at the Sydney zoo last year and they slept the entire time. It’s crazy they sleep up in the trees without falling off
I've seen koalas twice, once in Germany, once in the UK, and yeah, some were sleeping, but some were being surprisingly active. I even saw one walking on the ground, then climbing up a tree.

Koalas are not dumb. They avoid being killed by dingoes and foxes. They are not that small in Queensland. We have many of them on our farm and you are wrong - they are under conservation throughout Qld. They love red gum and blue gum trees the most. I have photographed them often in these trees.
