in 100-200 years John Williams will be consider to be in the same room as Mozart or Beethoven in the eyes of people, that's a fact.
A lot of people already do. :-)
I took an understanding music class last semester and he is already a large part of that class.
Indeed. Hans Zimmer next to him too
Hold it right there pal, he's great but that's FAR from enough for being equal to Beethoven or Mozart
@@Soeeasy didn't say equal, i said in the same room, and let's face it is not like our Age has that much to offer in terms of music or other art forms
I knew a professional choral director in college (fairly well known in the US) who remarked that if this piece hadn't been written for a movie, it would be regarded as one of the best pieces of the past 200 years.
Shawn Pitman as someone who doesn’t know much why does the fact that it was made for a movie prevent such recognition?
@@CptSaveAHoe. Because movie music is not given as much appreciation
@@CptSaveAHoe. filmscore is looked down apon by classical elitists
10/10 regardless. Fuck their superficial standards; this is music.
very few people think that's i'm sure of it, most Music OST are better than any top 100 chart and that's just a fact.
In my opinion Star Wars had one of the best soundtracks ever
Yeah, also interstellar has a really good soundtrack too!
Along with ennio morricone
Uhh lord of the rings.. widely considered to be the greatest movie scores ever made.

I always struggle to decide between Star Wars and Jaws, they are both examples of Williams at his finest.
I am going to be honest, the conductor has the high ground.....

I HATE YOU
I think you underestimate my French horn
People don't like The Phantom Menace but it gave us what I consider to be the definitive climactic lightsaber duel theme.
There is no lightsaber fight without this theme. It is heresy.
Well , i liked The Phantom Menace and all the prequels...hate ep.7-9 though.
People loves TPM nowdays (Sorry for my english)
everyone loves to hate on new starwars movies sadly
Larson Partisan You actually gotta give episode 7 some credit though. It was good. Rian Johnson threw out all the plot lines during Episode 8. Even the ones Kathleen Kennedy told him to use. He just did what he wanted to do, make Star Wars a “haha funny woah plot twist heaven!”

To those wondering, the lyrics are sung in Sanskrit, and are a translation of an ancient Welsh poem which says: "Under the tongue root a fight most dread, and another raging behind in the head"
Interesting!

"Fear. Fear attracts the fearful, the strong, the weak, the innocent, the corrupt. Fear. Fear is my ally." - Darth Maul
now where did he say that?
@@macbeth455 I believe in the Clone Wars TV show. Maul isn't killed by Obi Wan the first time he's sliced in half. His brother finds him, brings him to their home planet, and received bionic legs, hes then promptly cut in half a second time before getting ANOTHER set of bionic legs, swears to get revenge on Obi Wan, who then FINALLY kills him.

2:36 Has always been my favourite section of this piece. I can just picture the most intense duel in the history of the galaxy happening whilst this plays in the background.
Me: trying to sleep The mosquito in my room:
As much as The Phantom Menace is hated, and in many ways, justifiably, there will always be one scene in the film that will be considered a classic, and absolutely THE BEST Lightsaber Duel of all-time: Qui-Gon Jin/Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Darth Maul. The entire duel is one incredibly choreographed and amazingly shot scene! There has never been and never will be another Lightsaber battle like that one. From the moment Darth Maul ignites that amazing double bladed lightsaber, to the clash between Maul and Kenobi after Qui-Gon is struck down, the entire scene exudes "Star Wars"! I can sit there and watch that whole scene and still get chills up my spine! Darth Maul was completely underutilized and should have been the "menace" that bated the Jedi at every turn throughout the trilogy! One of the greatest "evil" characters in all of Star Wars!
Dooku vs Kenobi, Anakin and finally Yoda is up there too.
Anakin vs. Kenobi is a close second
I can assure you, there's more of that in the clone wars. Its probably some of the best star wars I've ever seen
Yes!! When they are separated by the light wall and Qui-Gon Jin sits to meditate. I can't man. That shit gets me every time
If you get the chance, watch the Disney+ series on the making of The Mandalorian. Near the end of the 2nd episode, Dave Filoni tells the table of how George enlightened him to what the Duel of the Fates is really about, and how it ties in with everything from Episode 1 to 6.
This is John Williams crown jewel of his career if you ask me. Absolutely perfect and epic beyond comprehension.
what really makes me emotional is the thought of how many people come together to make a piece like this
The director is surely having a nice time with such an epic theme.

My favorite thing about this video: the looks of terror/bemusement on the violists' faces when they realize that Maestro Hermus is taking "Duel Of The Fates" a good 10BPM faster than at the dress rehearsal.
I don’t know how some people don’t realize how lucky we are to be alive at the same time this man is.
The skill and talent of these musicians is unbelievable, when you're in the movies, you don't understand the effort put into the music, that gives you the feelings you get...amazing talent!!
Especially the strings, particularly at 2:31. Some of the players are putting their whole bodies into playing, while others are completely focused.
One of John Williams best compilations!

You know it's good when you imagine there's an actual duel in the midst of the orchestra
*_3:40_**_ I love that you can only hear the piano three times and then it's completely drowned out by all the other instruments_*
At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi... at last we shall have revenge.
I don’t care what anyone says about the Prequel Trilogy. Hearing the chorus at the beginning singing acapella followed by the quick strings and low horns and woodwinds brings me back to being a 10 year old kid sitting in a packed movie theater, chomping on stale popcorn drenched with imitation butter and slurping Diet Coke and being entranced.
It’s 2024 and I’m still popping in for another listen
The absolute inability to stop myself putting on my hooded robes getting in a lift..and waiting for someone to call it..the doors open..looking up menacingly and igniting my double ended saber when hearing this is almost impossible to resist
This song is so special because it perfectly illustrates the drama of the fight for the soul of the galaxy. Will Qui-Gon win and train the boy? Or will evil win and eventually corrupt the boy. We knew the answer, but the fate was still to be determined...
John Williams is the greatest composer of the last 100 yrs, I will die on this hill
Morricone isn't second to anybody.
@@TheChiliconkarma that’s very fair, I still personally enjoy John Williams more. Morricone has so many iconic pieces tho that it’s very hard to argue against.

This masterpiece never gets old, like the kids during Order 66...
The repeditive beat of the timpano really pushes the "raw, tribal" feel of this piece. Gives it that intense feel that befits a fight between good and evil.
