KINGSFORD PROFESSIONAL VS B&B Briquetes Charcoal Review
This video is about KINGSFORD PROFESSIONAL VS B&B Briquets in a head to head shootout to see which is the better charcoal for SCA Steak Cooking.
Keep in mind, that while ANY charcoal is good for cooking on, I am trying to show that different charcoals perform differently.
In SCA Steak Cooking many of us use Grill Grates. We do this to put grill marks on the steak. So in effect the Grill Grates are our heat source. The charcoal is the means to an ends by getting the grates hot enough to "Weld" good marks on our steak. And the hotter you get the grates, the better your marks are.
Also, I want repeatable results. I am looking for "Drop", and overall time and temperatures.
The drop is what happens when the charcoal compacts. The more the charcoal compacts, the further your coals are from your grates, and therefore less heat on your cooking surface.
In this video I used;
B&B Charcoal Briquetes
Kingsford Professional Briquettes
PK Classic Grill
2 Weber Charcoal Chimneys
4 Weber Starter Cubes
1 Set of 16" welding gloves
1 Fire Extinguisher
As always, when working around this type of heat source, use caution, safety and plan what you are doing before you do it.
I am shooting this video so you don't have to. So please, don't try this at home.
This was just what I needed to see. I just bought a master build portable smoker/grill. It has a very small internal firebox. The better performance from B&B will give me extended cook time off the same fuel. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for the video and comparison!
M S you are very welcome! Thank you for watching
TY for this video. I just purchased 3 bags of B&B which for me is not an instant gratification purchase. I live in Maryland and purchased them through ACE, the Hardware Place, hardware store. I ordered them on line and had the bags delivered to the store. My main reason for purchasing B&B is to achieve longer burn times for pork butts and briskets on the WSM. My next steak cook will be B&B in the Weber kettle using grill grates. I am coming from Kingsford professional charcoal so the video was timely for me.
Thanks for the comparison. Man I really wanted to grill today but it’s raining and that kills my setup! I can still watch this though. :)
Erin and Steve Odom Thanks so much for watching that’s what I do on rainy days to I guess were both certifiable huh? ;-)
I just picked up some Kingsford Pro yesterday because I was at costco. I think this has convinced me to do B&B next time. I used their char logs once and liked those too.
Love them! Thanks very much for watching
This is the 2nd video of yours I’ve watched and subscribed. I have a gas grill, but I use charcoal when I go camping and cook with my Dutch Oven. Your videos are very informative. I use regular Kingsford, but might have to look into B&B. I might be able to use less charcoal and get the same amount of heat. Would you be up for doing a video on charcoal use for Dutch Ovens? Maybe use B&B, Kingsford, Generic store brand, Lump, etc?
Felony Fetcher funny you should ask! I also cook in a group called @minipotmafia we use cast iron cookers, quart sized on lump charcoal. Check out the Facebook page.
Thank You! Great Comparison! Pete
Boater thank you for taking the time to comment. It means so much to us!
B&B is fantastic. I have also used Jealous Devil Briquettes. Consider a competition between the two. They are about the same size. Thanks! Love your videos.
It's hard to argue with facts. good job dude!
Thank you
Great info! Looks like ACE is the place that carries B&B near me. I'll have to try it in my PBC and Kettle.👍
TBP 615 awesome. I am glad you enjoyed the video.
I tried B&B in the PBC and it works great! Extremely long cooking times.
In Arizona, Ace is the main place. There is a retail BBQ Island store that also carries B&B but I don't think they're a national store like Ace. B&B is clearly the best.
I first saw your B&B briquettes review last summer and decided to get some. And you are so correct; they are by far the best briquettes I've ever used. I've been cooking on our Weber kettles for years with Kingsford blue. Lot's of low and slow mostly. B&B is so much better. Thank you!
Thank you sir
Great comparison video.
Thomas Oney thank you sir
I will be using B&B from now on thanks great video
Thank you so much for watching!
Great comparison! Would really be interested in a B&B briquettes vs Weber "playoff".
It’s not n my to do list
I've had issues with my charcoal grill losing heat fast. I know why now. It's the charcoal. We've been using Kingsford for years and noticed a drastic decline in quality. Ace Hardware sell B & B, can't wait to use it. Thanks for the info. Mr. Smoke!
I’m just pleased to help sir
Awesome review, how have I never seen this
Good video, I really like comparison vids to show why we should opinions on products, not just old wives tales. . this summer I tried b&b in my smokers and it was the only charcoal I could see a difference from. In my 22" WSM I get 12 +hours outta one fill, with other brands I would fight to get 9. Also it reaches temp much faster with a cleaner smoke, by far my favorite brand. . .but I Will still use kingsford lol
potatoe me to. Kingsford gets the job done I just prefer B&B
Awesome Video!! Ive been seeing this brand here in Texas for a while now. My BBQ cooks better, heat last longer and is more consistant with B&B charcoal.. so long kingsford! Thanks again.
That means more than I can say! I am so glad I can help
I seen an ad that GOOD EATS is doing a reboot. YEAH!!!
Johnny2419 actually there is a new video that is out now. Look for it on Facebook
Agreed 100%, I haven't found any briquettes that perform like B&B, I just wish it was more available. My local Ace is always out of stock it seems like and online ordering isn't always available. Meanwhile, I see 5,000 bags of Kingsford blue, even at the grocery store. The B&B briquettes work great in my Kamado Joe also, they're great to add to lump charcoal for long cooks because they just last so long and hold heat well.
The duraflamee company now owns BB. This looks to be awesome, more distributors and better access for customers
@@FLYINGSMOKE That would be awesome if B&B charcoal could find better distribution. Ace Hardware is just kind of small and if they could find their way into Walmart or Lowes (larger retail chains) that would be great!
I’m hopeful!
This is a great, grate, video. Thanks for making it. Kingsford is fine for burgers and hot dogs, B&B is better for meaningful efforts. BTW I can’t remember the last time I made burgers and hot dogs, lol. Here’s the thing: when I go to Lowe’s, or Home Depot, there’s a couple of pallets of 2*20 lb Kingsford about 15% off. They push it and I don’t have to go all the way over there to get the B&B. Now I have six bags of Kingsford white bag and thats gonna last a while. No parties with the corona going around. So sad.
I cook for my wife. Things WILL get back to normal. Now... we practice!
Hi enjoy your videos. I'm not surprised with the result. ( I buy kingsford when i'm not able to find anything else. I picked up B&B Hickory a few months back and do like it. I'm going to try to pick up B&B briquettes over the weekend. Side question, how do you compare Grill Grates vs Craycort cast iron? I own a 22" Weber kettle.
Thanks for sharing
Kingsford is always on huge sales for the holidays and it’s because it’s full of fillers like you said. That makes it cheaper to produce and there is less to fill the grill. While it works, it’s not good when you have a large grate to cover with charcoal. Great video. Subbed...
Kingsford was bothering my wife's asthma just from me going in and out of the back door while they were lighting in the chimney. Nothing else has been a problem.
I just switched last week to B and B. Such a difference! I have some Char-logs coming soon and I can't wait to try them! Even for the backyard cooks, the better quality you use, means you could have used half the amount of B&B for dogs, burgers, or steaks. Ultimately you would save money.
Thank you and I’m so glad you are happy with the results.
Thanks for the video. I'll tropical grab this Kingsford Professional from Costco for my Weber Smokey Mountain. Works well, but I'd say lump is superior. My only question... You had this wonderful grill going and went to Sonic to grab a burger after this? Come on man. Gotta have something to throw on there! 😂
I try to cook when I shoot a video. But my wife wanted ice cream... and you know the line: Happy Wife happy life. ;-)
Great testing! I live close to my neighbors and the times I have used kingsford ("competition briquettes" in my case) my neighbors have thought my house was on fire from all the white billowing smoke! Also I can't help but think that this was a very well orchestrated infomercial because I have now been googling grill grates, pk grills, and B&B charcoal!
I can assure you it is all legit! Thanks for watching
Another great comparison..would love to try B & B but I don’t think they sell it in my neck of the woods.
I think Webber briquettes are pretty comparable to the B&B if you can’t get B&B.
If you have an Ace hardware or Academy Sports near you you can get it, either off the shelf or you can ordered it to be delivered to the store.
Good info
You should try Jealous Devil Mazz Briquets. Can you speak on the different flavors the different charcoal brand give your food, if any difference at all. Thank you!
I look for them
Been using B&B briquettes for a while great for rottiseries on Weber grills burns strong for hours. Viva Texas!!!
Why not use something like weber charcoal baskets in you PK to raise the charcoal close to your grates?
Excellent demo! I use B&B Oak lump, I love the flavor of the lump. I have never used this B&B that you used here, how is the Oak flavor?
Great. And thank you for watching. I like the oak when I do brisket. Gives it that Texas taste, well Central Texas anyway
@@FLYINGSMOKE yeah me too, hopefully I can find it here in waaaaay down south Texas. Thank you sir, keep up the great videos.
Thanks so much, it means a lot
Being the expert that you are ( I mean this in the nicest, most respectful way) what charcoal briquets do you suggest for cooking ribs in a pit Barrel cooker?
I will tell you what I use. BB Char Logs or BB Lump and there it’s preference. For beef I use the oak in brown bag and pork I use hickory in green bag. The lump is easy to clean up... less ash but the logs burn almost too clean. But ten I get to choose what flavor I want to impart. And thank you for watching!
I took your advice and got 2 bag's of B&B hickory lump and what a difference to Royal Oak and I've got 3 bag's of the B&B Oak charcoal ordered it must be great for BBQIN cause it's on back order and as soon as I get it I'll let you know how it goes thumbs up 👍.
That makes me smile. So glad it worked for you!
Hi Flying Smoke! For use in a pit barrel cooker, do I need to leave the BnB in the chimney longer than I'm used to with Kings ford? I started the pbc with BnB just as I do with KBB. It took a long time to get hot and every 2 hours I had to crack the lid to get the temp back up. The coals in the chimney were not all ready when I dumped them into the rest of the charcoal basket. What would you say? Thank you!!!
In my barrel I use a half chimney and dump it on top of what I’ll use. Make sense? I always make sure I have to coals in the chimney all burning before I pour them out. It’s called the minion method
B&B by far is the best for grilling. For my Pit Barrel Cooker... I use Kingsford BB. It's cheap and leaves a lot of ash but who cares? Grilling on my PK or my Weber with SlowNSear.... always B&B. Thanks for your wonderful and informative videos.
Spring Ram thanks for watching. I love my PK. In fact I have a new PK (wife is rolling her eyes) but I added a PK 360 to my garage. It will be in videos soon
@@FLYINGSMOKE I know about the "wife thing". I have 2 BGE's, a PK, an LSG vertical offset stickburner along with the aforementioned Pit Barrel Cooker and Weber. She gave up a long time ago... she knows it is just part of living with a BBQ and grilling nut.
Really enjoyed this video, you should do Jealous Devil briquettes vs B&B
It’s on the list
I guess the advantage of the Kingsford being smaller is they are ready faster. When I use it, I’m pouring the chimney after 10-15 mins.
I let it get all red for comps. Thank you for your comments
Have you ever used the Weber 100% All Natural Hardwood Briquettes? Do you know how they compare to the B&B briquettes? Another question - your thoughts on the B&B briquettes versus their Char-Logs?
Cindy Kee they are close... but they are $25 a bag. B&B at $9. Thanks for watching!
I am no professional by any means. I'm just stepping into charcoal grilling. I bought my first Weber kettle last week and it's been great. I like the kingsford mesquite charcoal. It seems to be easier to use and I love the hard wood flavor. I've also tried cowboy lump charcoal. It works well and gives a nice flavor, but it's harder to use. I'm going to try and find some b&b. I'm afraid you may be right though, the kingsford is probably better for me and my Weber grill.
You are gonna do great
All I can say is WOW !!! Great greatest super duper informative video. Just started to make the move away from pellets and now diving into the world of charcoal you where a fantastic help !!!
B&B make great pellets too. Thank you for watching!
I'd like to see Royal Oak Chef's Select vs B&B briquettes.
I’ll try and pick up a bag!
I bought some RO Chef's Select here in 2020 ... Doesn't compare to B&B. Period.
I dunno if I agree with your disclaimer at the end. You mentioned the kingsford might be OK for smoker fuel... but to me something that more efficiently (both hotter and expending less charcoal volume in a given timeframe) is exactly what I'd want for long 12 hr cooks.
I was just trying to be fair. I appreciate the fact you took the time to comment. Thank you
I found the Kingsford Professional at Home Depot and purchased several bags. Tried it in my Pit Barrel Cooker and hated it! I had the same problem you found. They burned so fast that there was almost no coals left after a couple of hours. Kingsford Blue will last 8+ hours
Tom Evans I’m guessing they are just for quick heat
@@FLYINGSMOKE Correct! Burgers and dogs only.
That's great now I gotta do my own test by weight and heat and how long will last
Let me know what results you get
I’ll comment on my first use of B&B later. First I’d like to comment on availability or lack thereof. Viewed this video on Sept 10th, visited my local ACE on Sept 12th, (out of stock but we’ll be glad to order it for you). One week later “sorry it wasn’t on the truck, please wait one more week “. Visited store on Sept 25th, “sorry only part of your order has arrived “ I requested a refund on the rest of the order. Confused, I contacted ACE’s customer service. “None in warehouses & we don’t expect restocking prior to next week. As to how a store accepts payment for an item they know is not available, allows the customer to wait two weeks ;& then requires them to return to the store for a refund is beyond me. I had to drive by Lowes, Home Depot & Walmart to reach ACE. Kingsford is available at these stores 365. I have contacted B&B directly as ACE is useless. The positive side is maybe so many people saw your video, there was a nationwide run on the product. Keep up the good work.
T J I am so sorry to hear about your issues. I have to admit I have had a few, back a year ago. But they are getting easier to buy. Academy seems to get that they are the charcoal of choice for most of us who compete. They should, as they are better burning, be trying to be America’s charcoal. When you get some try it and shoot me a comment.
I use regular Kingsford because all I do is backyard and yes they do smoke a lot. They didn't use to do this so I think it may be the binder. I finder the chimney works better with newspaper. Coals will be ready in 20 minutes. I use the starter cubes , too , with the paper.
FRED WILEY thanks for watching! I use Kingsford all the time. If I’m smoking or in a hurry. But B&B isn’t that much more, for a higher quality. I just shot a video that I plan to put out this week testing B&B char logs. I got great results. Help me build my channel and share it with your friends. And keep watching... maybe come out to see us on the SCA trail. If you can cook a steak, you can compete too!
@@FLYINGSMOKE My family and friends say i cook the best steaks.lol. they are better than any steak house I go to, at less than half the price. Like you said, living in small town I don't have many options for fuel. K, RO and maybe 2 brands of hardwood coal at Lowes.
FRED WILEY do they have SCA events in your area? Us “veterans” are wary of first timers... cause they tend to win
@@FLYINGSMOKE NO< never heard of this.lol I am in florida panhandle, Marianna, Fl
FRED WILEY goto: www.steakcookoffs.com I have a few videos that show what an SCA event is like. Check out my MILLINGTON video.
I’m in Australia and got a bag of Kingsford from Costco to try. Man it puts out a lot of smoke, and has a fishy smell, to me, and seems to burn really hot early on and then disappear very quickly. My usual charcoal of choice is Firebrand, it burns clean, and lasts a long time. I find all their products, Lump, Brickets etc are excellent quality, if you can do a comparison that would be cool.
TheWeebs1968 thanks Cobber... that’s correct slang yes? I am not sure where they sell that in the states but I would be happy to try it. Thanks so much for watchin down under! You guys are really stepping up your Q.
Hi Mate Cobber works fine buddy., and Q has really taken off over the last few years, most charcoal cooking was over a spit, or in the Webber, and of course the good Old gas Barbie, which I haven’t used for about 10 years. KZhead helps us learn pretty much anything these days, also with all those BBQ competition shows on Tele , which has made it possible to get great quality smokers available on every corner, as peoples interest has grown. firebrandbbq.com.au is the web address, for the charcoal I mentioned, they may ship overseas, like most things these days. Cheers mate, keep up the good work!
TheWeebs1968 also you have a strong proud lady in Jess Pryles from Hardcore Carnivore really promoting all you have going on down there. I had a ball when I was in Perth WA years ago. Loved me some Black Swan. Cheers
Use for a one time a mesquite Mexican charcoal is awesome guys
Noo, I don't think so! Too much of a overwhelming taste on food…
I used to be a Kingsford guy for the last 20 years I was introduced to B MB 2 years ago and I will never go back to the blue bag I'll always go for the Orange bag the red bag or the Brown bag but skip the blue bag
Like I said in another video... B&B is the way to go!! Excellent reviews and thank you for your videos!! Good bless
Thanks
Great video. Thanks. Kingsford at Costco for weekend warrior saves $$
We love Costco too
The Kingsford looks just fine. Can't find the blessed B&B anywhere.
Only place I can find it where I’m from is at academy
I found this video because Im new to grilling and recently used king ford and I swear to god I smoked out 4 of my neighbors with thicccc smoke while getting the charcoal ready. I have been researching to find out how to prevent it. Was so embarrassing. Right away in the video you mention the smoke so I will go with the b&b brand.
Let me know how your cook goes, and if you have questions
FLYING SMOKE thanks! I think my biggest mistakes were not using a chimney to get the coals really ready and using Kong’s ford originals which caused a ton of smoke from all the filter they use.
It’s Jeff by the way
In the briquettes world, B&B is what I like. I use Kingsford too, but B&B is hard to beat.
This was a great video! I was really impressed with the B&B charcoal. I usually use lump to grill but I think I might switch it up and try B&B. I agree with you about Kingsford which is why I only use it when I smoke. It's cheap and last longer than store brand charcoal. Thank you for sharing this it was super informative!
Rich-E BBQ I use lump on certain grills. It does leave less ash. Thanks for watching and your comments.
Cooking for the first time right now with b&b briquettes.
Thanks for watching. Let me know how it works
Have you done Jealous Devil against B&B? I switched from B&B to JD for SCA. I found it much better especially for cooking a double
I just bought some. Coming soon
Have you done any testing by weight? I am curious if you would get the same results if you measured the charcoal out by weight instead of volume.
I get a lot of those questions. So I guess like the song says… “Give the people what they want” I need to shoot one like that
Do the same test but using the Weber Briquettes vs the B&B. I would like that
Brian Van Quaethem where do they sell Weber Briquettes? Sounds like a good idea
Ace hardware and Lowes
Would love to see that 🙃
Can’t find them anymore. They stopped selling them.
Ok thx for trying.
Have you done a Stubbs all natural briquettes vs BB?
I did a video on Stubbs. I’ll look for the briquettes
It is not bellowing smoke. It is billowing smoke. You are bellowing about it billowing smoke. I’m just tugging your chain. I love your videos.
Thank you for that!
Do you have a video comparing B&B Lump vs B&B briquettes. For us in Ohio the lump is easier to come than the briquettes. Only one place carries the briquettes
My Home State! I can put it on the list of to dos sir!
My wife always complained about upset stomach when I was using Kingsford. It went away when I switched to Cowboy lump.
It has good flavor
Kingsford is just a name now....years Ago the coals would seem to last for hours...
Isn't B&B a product from Mexico? Would you know what kind of wood it is? I've always used Kingsford and get the smoke and by the time the top coals in the chimney are ready, the bottom coals are half burnt. Just curious, thanks.
I use Kingsford years ago, it seems cheaper than before but we always look back with rose color lenses. B&B works for me. And oak grown in Mexico, or Texas or Australia or the moon… is oak. it’s the binding process that makes the difference. B&B use no fillers
Regarding the content of B&B, if sold in the US they have to label per US standard, and their SDS tells you their contents-100% hardwood.
Just tried B&B charcoal for the first time after watching one of your reviews. All I can say is WOW! I’ve used Kingsford for all of my 50 years of grilling life. I am now a B&B super fan thanks to you!
Thanks for your comments. It means a lot
and when I grill I use Kingsford it stays on for 4 hours
Agreed. Something changed recently at Kingsford. i quit using them for these reasons: high redisual ash after suggests more filler/binder. Weighed them, each briquetter is 10-20% smaller than the old ones. Convoluted surface = faster burn. As your demo show, they don’t last. So, all my charcoal estimated times and quantities for Kingford, which I used exclusively, went out the window. I speculate they are now run by accountants, not barbequers. I ise a different brand now, cheaper, better.
I guess so. I have used it for years and never knew why... now I know. It was available. That’s why the internet is good. Products can’t just be shoved in our face by a company because they have money. People can test and talk. Thanks for watching
@@FLYINGSMOKE observing the “What” usually leads toasking the”Why”. I send them emails with my findings and the rely was a deflection. The old 20lb bag now weighed 16 lbs but same number of briquettes in the bag, burning faster. I estimated you need 35% more Kingsfords to get the old result. Oh, and the price went .up with the New and Improved smaller bag. ...accountants...
Wow! Great information sir
I am new to your channel what kind of grill is that
It’s a PK Classic
Confirmed !!
When I found out where B&B was made and the wood used that ended it for me check the location
That’s why there are lots of choices, you can always find something right for you. Thanks for watching
I use Kingsford for cooking 🐔 down, deer, or lamb. B&B for the heavy hitters, briskets, pork shoulders, whole hogs✌️ Great video comparison👍🏾✌️🥂
Thank you sir! That means so much.
I use B&B lump charcoal. Burns hotter and longer. Get it from my local Ace.
Thank you for taking time to comment and thank you for watching
Love B&B !!!!🎉
How long is the cooking time after you drop them and how much they cost for a 10kg bag
Frankie Gregoriou with 2 full Chimneys I get a few hours. 18 lbs is $8.99 at Academy Sports. I think that is the best price.
@@FLYINGSMOKE thank you so much for your prompt reply, so is the same as the majority of lump woods, i have a Greek souvlaki place and charcoal is one of the main expense, the price is similar as here
what does B&B use as a binder?
Per their website and SDS sheets there is no binder, it’s 100% hardwood.
You keep mentioning that kingsford is “ ok” for hot dogs and family bbq, but when you have a family gathering I have to keep on putting kingsford on the chimney around three to four times to cook the half chickens, steaks, sausage, sometimes my cousin brings some cuts of meat to put it on the grill. I’m starting to think that kingsford is not even compatible with family gatherings. I’m going to give B&B a try. Thank you for your very informative videos 👍
D E well, I am just trying to be fair. But I understand. B&B is $8.99 at Academy Sports here
Hey anything but kingsford, I have it for a long time too, in the last few years I have found it just dosen't last that long. It dont last long enough to cook even cook a whole chicken kingsford sucks.
Sounds to me like you need a Weber kettle for cooking those whole chickens while you grill on your normal grill. Weber kettle w/ lid on and coals to one side = charcoal powered oven. I do chicken legs and thighs that way for like an hour before I toss them on the hot side to cook and sear them.
Julian Kirby I have a Weber kettle.. it’s 22 inch..I need a bigger one, apart from the one I have.
D E or, hear me out, it’s cheaper to get a second 22 inch kettle on Craigslist than to buy the 26 inch.
How are your Grill Grates in one piece? I just bought a set for my new PK 360 and they are in sections. I would like one piece as you have.
I could tell you… but! Ha… it’s easy go to any hardware store and buy stainless steel wire. At the grill grates on top of the PK grate, and run wires thru the grate holes near the edge and viola!
@@FLYINGSMOKE Thanks, as a retired aircraft tech, I happen to have ss wire. I didn't catch it in the video so I was thinking you had a custom cut to fit your PK from Grill Grates. The only think I have with using the grate that came with the grill is if I want to grill something that doesn't require the use of the Grill Grates, i'd have to take the wire off to use the grate. Only solution to that is to buy a spare PK grate AND if I want to use the GG's as a flat top (opposite side) for smash burgers you run into another issue if wired down. I'll figure something out. Thanks for the fast reply and keep cookin'!
Safety wire! Nice . I’m retired Navy and a pilot so it’s in the preflight walk around. Best of luck
I think another point even for home cooking is cost versus efficiency of the brikettt. I yhink.cist vs efficiency will show that b and b is a better cost performer that kingsford pro
Good point sir
@@FLYINGSMOKE thank you. I like b and b also
I would have done the heat test without the grate. Reason being, the cast-iron will transfer heat from one side to the other
Cast iron? If you are talking about the Grill Grates they are aluminum. I guess I should clean them better.
I've only had issues with jingsford over the years because of how fast they burn
casey wilson me too. I appreciate your comments!
Do you ever watch videos where the people won state cook-off with Kingsford I have
The weight of the coals were different.
I've been looking all over for kingsford professional cant find it anywhere
COVID has made supplies tough
@@FLYINGSMOKE have you noticed blue bag's quality is kinda rough this year like its burning quicker
I have not. But as luck would have it... I will be reshooting some of my videos as I now own a second PK. Which ones do you want to see?
@@FLYINGSMOKE just Kingsford blue and i would also like to see if royal oaks quality is different as well this year
Ok it’s on the list
I am patiently waiting on my Masterbuilt Charcoal smoker the Gravity 1050 to be drop shipped when they unload the Chinese container ship! I have never seen that blue bag Professional Kingsford. I wonder what these companies are doing different with their different labels ? like what is the the White bag kingsford, the Hardwood kingsford. the Professional kingsford ? What the heck is the difference in them? I thought all charcoal was hardwood maybe I am wrong.
All charcoal is not the same. That’s actually why I started this channel.
I have been a Kingsford blue bag guy for many many years. But even cooking burgers and hot dogs on Kingsford I see myself using more and more charcoal over the past few years. If I have to do a big cook for a family get together I can use a 20 lb bag in just over 2 hours. So I think I am going to give B and B a try so I can cut down on the waste that Kingsford has. Thanks for the test. It really has helped me.
Galen Long let me know how it goes, I hope you get great results! And thanks for watching
I sure will.
I can not tell if he is saying it’s a bad thing or a good thing the dropping of the charcoal and also if it’s good or bad the amount of smoke? I would like to know because I just bought this kingsford professional briquets I’ve never used it before. It’s a nice video but for those of us who are grillers not smokers it would be more helpful with a lil more explanation thanks
The “drop” is when lit, the charcoal starts to disintegrate. That’s bad. And a little smoke is good but a ton of it is bad. Normally means cheap charcoal with fillers
FLYING SMOKE well thats what I was thinking. But the way he sounded it was like he was saying it was a good thing all that smoke vs less smoke and also the dropping of it. He sounded like he was excited and saying it was a good thing. Thats why I was scratching my head lol. It was a good video had a lot of good information
Actually it is the color of smoke that I seek. Blue is the Gold Standard. In one of my wing videos I stood by my barrel cooker when the coveted blue smoke was coming out of the chimney
Mesquite works great 👍
Why would a pk grill be better than a weber kettle? Just curious
It depends on what you are using it for. You can get a kettle cheap, but the PK is a steak cooking machine. And since it’s aluminum it stands up to the elements
Each has its pros and cons. I prefer a Kettle overall, but the PK is more portable than the Weber, and the aluminum on the PK is going to hold up better than the Weber. Then again the Weber’s main shell isn’t the issue... The parts that eventually rust can be cheaply and easily replaced. But the Weber Premium has a better ash-collection system, more easily-adjustable bottom vents, and has more accessories available than the PK, which is why I use one. Not to mention the Weber is half the price of a PK. Happy cooking
Kingsford briquettes are bigger than Royal Oak briquettes, however, the briquettes each weigh exactly the same. Evidently the Royal Oak is denser than the Kingsford. You simply cannot make any judgement by size alone.
Fair enough
You need to get the kingsford under the grill they are ready to go before the b&b
You went to sonic for a burger when you had the pk loaded up with hot charcoal lol
The things I do to make videos!
B&B are the best i tried all type of charcoal they don't compare ill done pork butts and briskets and ribs B&B burns better and longer hands down and im a backyard smoker
Harold Cowboys Mart DC4L thanks for watching! I have yet to find a better Charcoal, but the search continues.
I will look for B&B at ace hardware in my state.
Let me know what you think
B&B has become my go-to fuel for BBQ cooks, especially for cooks longer than 4 hrs+. I'd like to give special kudos to another B&B product, their Competition Charlogs... WOW!!! They perform really well for extended cooks. I have the 14" Weber Smokey Mountain and I can finish a 8 hr St. Louis rub cook - I tend to cook through the stall - with 1.5 - 2 chimneys of Charlogs. The density and uniformity of this product is noticeable, as the pieces resemble cylindrical logs. Not a terrible amount of cash either. Can't find this product anywhere since COVID.
Ok to share this?
@@FLYINGSMOKE Perfectly ok to share my thoughts. I've learned so much from our online BBQ community and your channel... I want to return the favor with whatever information I have that might be helpful to others, too.
Thanks
I like B&B briquettes as well but they aren’t as obtainable as kingsford, so I’ll probably use kingsford more often then not.
They (BB) were bought by Duraflame so hopefully they will be getting more to your store soon
@@FLYINGSMOKE I hope so, man. I just tried kingsford professional (costco) and boy do they suck lol Hopefully, B&B can get their products in at my local Lowe’s.
I got my last 8 bags at an Ace store in Ohio
dang dude 30mins!? Shit im pampered then hahaha my first chimney i bouught was a dragon fire chim and they are ready at 10mins! I didn't but their fan I got a cheap ass walmart clip fan and it works wonders! Even with lump and mesquite im only looking at a 15min wait time
Is it a difference in the taste of your food
No. From all I have seen and read to get any change to where you can really taste a difference in using different woods it takes time. Grilling is hot and fast. I recall Alton Brown saying it takes over 6 hours to make a difference.
