Seeing Kung Lao as someone who played him in every game just made me so happy
Yeah when I was watching his fight scenes I couldn't help but notice he moved a lot like the mk2/3 version did
Yeah I think kung lao in the movie closely resembled with that in the videogames. For other characters, naaah never mind. But the fatalities are all rockstar, very like in the video games.....

The opening scene and then the first fight between Hanzo and Bi-Han was pretty dope and I loved how Hanzo tried to die touching his family but didn’t quite make it

Ice doesn't work that way and i am sure Hanzo knows about that since their clans are against each other.
@Miguel Messina Ice doesn't spread like disease . Bi-Han frostfreezed them then left , he wasn't mantaining the cryomancy power for it to continue spreading the ice . The Ice that struck both Hanzo's wife and son are losing its cold and release excess energy every seconds .

The way they made Kabals character to a movie character was simply a masterpiece. From costume to his fighting. Probably my favorite thing of it all
Can we just take a second to applaud Kabal's costume design. He was the highlight of the movie for me as a major Kabal fan

Quinny Binny uhh..Cole Young is an original character and never been in any MK games.
My favourite was when Kano jumped then said, "oh shit". Just liked I'd feel whenever I got caught with a badly timed jump.
It's pretty refreshing that the villain had a practical solution for once. No over the top plan. No quest for an ancient artifact of great power. No stalking the heroes until the climax of the film. Shang Tsung hears a prophecy? Shang Tsung sends assassins to end them.

@Levi Ackerman You aren't lying about the Animated movie being better. Had they just done the anime movie almost exactly as it took place and just live actioned that plot, it would have been perfect.
“Is that the only move you know mate” is an obvious reference to you one move wonders of the game 😂 and then he tries jumping the third one 🤣

Kung Lao's fatality was the coolest one in this film. For a R rated movie, the gore and violence was pretty tame.
Apparently the gore was gonna be much worse, so much so they were close to an NC-17 rating, so they had to bring it down so they could keep the R rating

I saw a Tweet the other day that said Mortal Kombat would work well as a Cinematic Universe, and now I’m sad we’ve never tried that. Imagine solo movies for some of the fighters building to an Avengers-like MK movie

Another Easter egg i think everyone missed was that Kabal has Strykers' police badge in his outfit, showing that this Kabal most likely went down the same path that MK9 Kabal did up until being burned

This film was the exact amount of fanservice we all wanted from a Mortal Kombat film, and all of the Hanso fight scenes were the best choreographed. So satisfying.
Every fight had amazing choreography.
Especially the opening and closing fights.

He was deceptively built. I first thought who's this scrawny toothpick playing Lui Kang, but then saw how ripped he was and promptly said nevermind.
That is Ludi Lin, he really worked out a lot for this movie.

I just realized that when Kano first uses his eye beam, the tension in his face muscles rip open his scars a bit more. Cool (and nasty) detail
Honestly Kabal’s costume was EPIC
They really missed the opportunity for a Stage Fatality in the Pit.

That was a unique choice by the director that landed well. Kudos to the director. I recently heard this was his first film. Not bad for his first movie 🎥
@@victoracosta4796 mm I’m not sure about ghosts, I know the Japanese have a history of blackened teeth - it was a beauty object for women at one point- but to me it makes me think specifically of Yokai or grudge like spirits. Though I’d like to point out I have no evidence of that I can share xD

The citizen cage poster can be seen for a second in the very first locker room scene with Cole at the beginning of the movie.

I have one small nitpick about this film, which is the mistranslation of Scorpion's last line before returning to hell: 我らの血統を守れ should be "Protect OUR bloodline" not "my bloodline". It's small, but makes a huge difference in Cole and Hasashi's relationship.
So...Is scorpion gone back to the netherrealm or will he fight for earth now?
@@quzar3291 Hard to say. This franchise has so many characters, that crafting a coherent narrative is always challenging. I don't know if the actor has signed on for the sequel yet.

yeah i thought that was a really good nod to the actual storyline, not sure how many others caught it.
Even more so Bi-han prompts Hanzo by placing his cheek on the chain allowing Hanzo to attempt the move My favorite moment
I think I may found another Easter egg... the final fight scene between Sub Zero and scorpion in the background, you can see Cole Young Punching away at the ice where his family is frozen all while the main fight is going on, almost a nod to the stuff that would go on in the background during the pit stages in the video game

@6:26 you can see several Kamidogu symbols and significant organization symbols from within mk lore on the pillars i.e. the netherrealm kamidogu on the left middle pillar, the edenia/outworld kamidogu on the right middle pillar, the earthrealm kamidogu in the bottom right of the screen on that first pillar, etc.

According to the filmmakers, they saved Cage for the sequel because they thought having two egotistical jackasses ham it up would lead to them overshadowing each other.

When Raiden appears with the others at the frozen Gym, Cole says “I thought you couldn’t get involved”. I think Raiden teleported Scorpion from Hell to help him in his fight against Sub Zero. Remember Cole did ask “Can you teleport anyone , anywhere”.
EARLIER IN THE MOVIE: Raiden gives Cole Scorpion's blade knowing Cole can only be the one to release Scorpion from hell before sending Cole back to his family since he couldn't unlock his power. This is what Cole was referring to when said i thought you couldn't get involved to Raiden.

Raiden didn’t teleport Scorpion or anything like that. He ‘got involved’ when he gave Cole the kunai with Scorpions blood on it because he knew that mixing Coles blood with Scorpions he could summon Scorpion because theyre from the same bloodline.

I like how Kabal’s death scream sounds like a direct pull from the fatality screams from the game.
Loved the skull clap at 12:05. But when I saw them entering The Pit I was hoping for a long fall onto some spikes.
Was the way Scorpion said “get over here” more clearer than it was in the trailer ? And his signature chain attack looks amazinggg and so does the way it just slicks back into his hand or sleeve! I did however want a teleport kick and we just didn’t get it 🙄
I do think it was redone compared to the trailer. Not sure if they ripped it straight from the latest game or not though

it was because the trailer version is more realistic since Hanzo is from Japan and likely only could do some broken english but at the same time fans wanna have at least the similar "GET OVER HERE" one from the game. So the director heard us fans and did a redone for us to make that sounds similar to the game =)

You missed Subzero's Ice Decoy when Scorpion jumps into the cage during the final fight. A blink and miss it reference that made me, at 30, giggle a lil.
That leg sweep from Kang to Kano is the funniest thing in this movie. That was totally me for the past 20 years of this game xD

Honestly, movie was better than I thought it would be. Granted I thought it would be a hot mess, but overall there was actually stuff to enjoy and laugh at that the screenwriters intended audience members to laugh at.
I don’t know why but Cole’s armor reminds me of Black Panther’s vibranium armor that can absorb the kinetic energy
it kinda looks like a reference to jax's arms in mk11 where the more he fights the more they heat up.

Technically he was only the Kano we know from the games for like one week I don’t even think he killed anybody on screen with his laser eye lol
"Use your Uppercut", is also a gamer moment, (D + [punch]) in MK Games.
Cole being a punching bag kinda makes me think that at some level he's the movie adaptation of Meat :D His arm weapons could be a nod to Baraka's blades. And the crowbar is a nice, probably unplanned, Half-Life reference :D

There's a line of dialogue from Kano about what the different abilities could be one mention pulling swords and guns out of thin air, which is great because some of these fighters look like it's just their fists but then boom pulls out a AR and it's a range helmet character
I absolutely love the fight between Hanzo and Bihan. After watching it i skipped from that fight to the final Scorpion Sub Zero fight. The facial expressions and fight choreography is so intense. I can't wait to see where they go next. 100 percent worth the wait.
