The Cedar | Solo Barndo Build Series | Introduction | Ep1
Introducing THE CEDAR build series. The Cedar plan is thoughtfully designed to maximize space and cost efficiency, without sacrificing function! This open-concept plan features 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, with plenty of space to add another bedroom and/or bathroom upstairs. A large 8′ kitchen island, feature fireplace, and charming wrap around porch come together to make this home feel cozy and welcoming. The Cedar plan provides an economical structure with 14′ sidewalls and a vaulted ceiling upstairs, helping reduce building costs by utilizing a “one and a half” story design.
Paul will be breaking down the days/hours it takes for each portion of this build.

I'm excited to see this new building series! I've been watching your videos since 2020 when I was stuck in the covid lockdown in China. Now I'm in Canada to pursue my personal freedom. I hope someday I can achieve what you've proved can be done in these videos. You're the man I look up to 🫡
Thanks for the comment! Glad you’ve enjoyed the videos!
Saludos desde Lima - Peru. Excelente trabajo .
Very Excited for this series! This is VERY close to my plan! Thank you!
Awesome!
Looking forward to this series, you guys do amazing work!
Beautiful!
If you guys get a chance please do a series where someone builds the butte model barndominium
Love the floor plan. Need it. Okay ... want it. 😉
I prefer watching the full build series from start to finish
Something I’ve always wondered but never got a clear answer on. Do post frame building have to be engineered or can they be built to a residential building code? I’m in Texas so we would use the IRC. I know the American Wood Council has some guidance here; but what are the governing documents for purlin spacing, girt spacing, etc?
One day I will own one!!
Yep! You got this!
is a window trimmed in the same way with an insulated wall plate ? 80mm wall plate
Looking forward to this. How's your shop (dog-house) coming along?
Thank you! After this one is done we will get back to the dog house and the cabin in Missouri!
Would love to see you do a barndominium build with red iron or steel.
He's in Iowa, there is way too much thermal bridging with steel for that area. To be honest, unless there is a separate insulated cladding, like commercial, residential post frame should not be using steel, even in TX.
We might do a post frame with steel trusses but unlikely we’ll do a full steel frame. Reasons being the commenter is correct about our climate and we just aren’t set up as a steel frame builder.
@@christopherhaak9824 what is a insulated cladding?
what is the design style of the truss?
Scissor trusses
Is this build in Iowa?
Yes!
I don't see how the term "barndominium" makes any sense. Regarding the "condominium" element, it doesn't contain a multitude of separately owned apartments or houses. Even the term "barn" itself suggests the sheltering of agricultural products, vehicles, grain, hay or livestock. I just find it to be an ugly word with no derivative meaning. There ought to be a nice, clean word for these types of structures.
"Barn" because the main structure is akin to a barn - four walls with a roof enclosing a large, open main space. "Dominium" is a piece of the word condominium (like you suggested) - a single large structure made up of smaller individual units. It's a barn with separate individual rooms, or a barndominium.
