A pack of wild dogs was sleeping in the heat of the day when a leopard moving in the area got sight of them. The leopard slowly creeps up to them, almost attempting to hunt them. But… Surely it won’t be that easy?

34-year-old John Fabiano, a photographer with a unique focus on the diverse relationships between humans and dogs across cultures, captured this unique interaction. This rare incident occurred near Lower Sabie, within the Kruger National Park. John shared his story and footage with LatestSightings.com.
Just a short drive from the Lower Sabie camp, John's guide from Travel Buggz was informed of a wild dog sighting ahead, this got everyone excited. Upon arriving at the location around 7:30 a.m., they found the dogs asleep. Wild dogs are endangered, making each sighting precious. John took the moment to take some pictures of the dogs lazing around. Other visitors came and went, but John stayed, intent on capturing the beauty of these wild dogs.
The atmosphere shifted when a couple in a nearby car used their binoculars to look further into the bush, signalling something unusual. John decided to look for himself through his camera, and that’s when he eventually spotted a leopard behind a bush, its gaze fixated on the sleeping dogs. Despite several cars at the scene, a hush fell over the area, and the tension could be felt.
The leopard, using the wind and bushes to its advantage, began a stealthy approach towards the dogs. It used the direction of the wind to blow its scent away from the dogs so they could not be alerted. The thick bushes were perfect camouflage for the leopard. Moving closer to the unsuspecting dogs with each step. The leopard was careful not to make a sound, placing each paw precisely where the 1st was. Its eyes, sharp and focused, never left the dogs as it moved. The dogs were completely unaware. The leopard's movements were so silent and calculated that it was able to get within a few meters of the sleeping dogs!
Just then, one wild dog lifted its head and saw the leopard a few meters from it, instantly shifting the dynamics. The leopard turned in shock and began running, and a chase ensued as the dogs all took off behind the leopard. The confrontation ended as quickly as it began, with the dogs triumphantly returning to their resting spot. For the dogs, they were extremely lucky that one of them picked up the leopard’s presence, had they not things might have not ended so well for one of them!
“Seeing wild dogs is special enough, but witnessing their interaction with a leopard was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.” His advice to fellow safari-goers is simple yet profound: respect nature, maintain distance, and leave no trace of your presence.

The leopard would have tried if it was a single wilddog, he sure ain't messing with a pack.
There was a case of leopard killing 2 adult wilddogs
For sure, you can tell by the leopard's cautious approach, didn't want to get in a dog fight. Yes, leopards are much stronger and faster, but with a pack of dogs it knew the pack would hurt them as well, reason it didn't attack, IMO
😂😂😂@@animal_watcher775
@@Bozolips🤗 Absolutely, u are correct!🐆
@Mr.Awes0me🤗 Yeah, u are so right, leopard🐆 knew it couldn't handle all of them, looks👀 like it was about 4 of them right then!
Love that the dogs went after the Leopard after waking up 😂 No chill at all 🫡
They didn’t even show any signs of next day drowsiness… amazing.
They want all the problems. Anything smaller than a lion is fair game.
@Druhhhhh9905🤗 Yeah, they didn't waste a second to chase after the leopard🐆‼😅😂🤣
@@kovy689🤗 Yeah, they woke up with the quickness, didn't waste no time to chase after the leopard🐆‼😅😂🤣
@@bettybunbun9664🤗 Sometimes they will go after lions!😳😮😼😾😹
Leopard might be calculating all the outcomes all the time😂.
Yep
2:55 both momentarily run from each other then the wild dog realizes, no , we outnumber him and give chase lol
Yea a fully matured leopard with experience wouldn’t even attempt this foolishness 😂
they woke up and stood on business 😂
He invited himself to lunch but then became it😂
Dogs has a very good sense of smell, either wild nor domesticated ones
Yes agree with you. We have a stray dog living in our compound now for almost 7y. The guy is very fond of my daughter she comes to Bharat once a year and you have to only see the welcome she gets each time.
Carefully notice, the wind is going from dogs to leopard, so they can't smel the leo
By the looks of it, this is a young leopard that seemed to be more curious than hungry.
Not young..... Leopards are usually cowards
Cowardice exists as a concept only within the human mind. Doesnt exist in the natural world. One could argue that hunting and living as a mob, such as packs of wild dogs do, is cowardly but it isnt.@@littledudefromacrossthestr5755
Lmao we’ve already seen what a wild dog pack can do to a male Leopard, don’t be delusional 😂
You internet experts are hilarious
@@littledudefromacrossthestr5755 so they’re scaredy cats 😏
The leopard is not used to such confident and bold food. It got confused because the dogs seemed to not mind his/her presence. Young leopard is still learning how to do it right and many other things in the wild. Hunter turned out to be the Hunted. 🐆 🐕 🐕 😅😂❤
Not really wild dogs are just wilder with thoer numbers. They are one of the most dominant predators in Africa only after lions. They even bully hyena and very rarely female lions. Wild dogs are just not afraid of anything except the giant herbivore from hippo, rhino and elephant to carnivores like lions. They aren't afraid of leopards and hyenas and will bully them with thier numbers.
Honestly the wild dogs were quite lucky that it wasn't a lion. Quite a bold move to sleep in the open when there are bigger predators lurking around
They have no choice. They have to sleep sometime. Be thankful we don't have to roll the dice every time we sleep in our beds.
@@FatherManus True.
True
And where would you sleep?
That was a young leopard he was confused.
Just goes to show you how absolutely stealthy a leopard is. Wild dogs have some of the best hearing and sense of smell in the animal kingdom and they had no idea the leopard was right there the whole time.
Being stealthy can hide your smell?
@@droid6759Smell is an important part of stealth. There's no use being invisible if what you're hiding from can follow your Smell.
Couldnt you hear the wind hitting the camera? A good nose and ears count for nothing in a lot of wind.
Hard to hear a leopard over the sound of an engine and hard to smell it over the diesel fumes.
@@bruce949 What engine?
It's just amazing how the dogs woke up and became very agile immediately, chasing the Leopard away.
Being alert and united is among the tricks of surviving the blushes in the wilderness. U saw the guys woke up headed 2 the danger zone u wonder how comes they did that yet they were deep in their slumber??
Na verdade um ficou com medo do outro. 😂😂😂😂
I hear ya there. When I wake up, I need to slowly straighten up and attempt a direct walk to the coffee pot. Agility takes awhile in my neck of the woods. It’s a good job I’m not being hunted or I would be f***ed! Hahaha
I kept thinkin “I’m not gonna feel sorry for you… you’re jus ASKIN for trouble”
I just find it so cute how painted wolves sound like squeaky toys...
எதிராளியின் பலம் தெரிந்த பின் படைகள் பின்வங்குவதே சிறப்பு.
Wow didn’t see there was more than one at first. Leopard was playing a real dangerous game. Either too cocky or too hungry 😂
Another vertically shot video. *sigh*
This one would have been SO much better horizontal
Leopard 🐆 : Now I have to Run 1st Dog 🐕 : Guys try your acceleration let's catch it. 💨💨💨🔥🔥🔥
Looks like she approached them from down wind which is why they didn't smell her. As soon as she moved slightly upwind they caught her scent
Hunter become the hunted. Leopard misjudged or mistakenly thought it was something else maybe lol 🤣 or realised there were more than one .
The leopard must've been starving, because it dared to approach four wild dogs
That leopard is funny as fuck 😂😂. He didn't really care if he got caught
That Leopard was looking for a baby it could run away quick with. Funny how he kept looking till one woke up tho lol
Judging by the size of the ears on Wild Dogs, they could probably hear a mouse approaching.
The leopard although wanted to kill the dogs it did not allow itself to be foolish enough to attack either dog knowing it was out numbered. This come to show just how stealthy leopards are. The dogs did not even know it was there. Now in the animal kingdom the wild must be able to go from zero to one hundred in a split second. The wild dogs just showed us this. Nature is fierce.
Dogs within a second of waking up - Hey lets catch this big cat😂
Funny how the dogs woke up in a split second and went after the leopard. 😂
Leopard already knew that if a mistake was made it was four against one he kept that in mind
There were more than 4 it was a whole pack according to description of video
The power of one is unequal to the power of many. Successful escape must be the first thought in one's mind. This leapord has this lesson for us.
Okay, Wild Dogs. Waking up startled and ready to attack. Not one of you ran into a tree like a human into a wall when waking up in a startling situation. 😂
According to the way he moved, I don't think he was trying to hunt the wild dogs.
Leopards always ensure their own safety as much as possible, so they often choose such humorous ways to run in front of wild dogs
I give up getting people to record videos right. Can't they just make phones that record like it's horizontal even when it's vertical? At no point does the lens change in the process. From here on out - it's product failure, not human failure.
And now that Tik Tok exists people intentionally film vertically. It's terrible yet mediocrity is rewarded by mediocre people.
I’m guessing in the wild, when they are in groups, you have to take turns having shifts while your pack are sleeping to alert one another from prey. Man that wildlife is cutthroat
Look how the leopard Blends in behind the plants, very cool.
I could be wrong but it looks like it is trying to find a way around them without waking them up and where is the next biggest tree in case he needs an escape route!
Leopards would think twice about hunting them. Wild Dogs might be the smallest of the large carnivores in Africa, but they’re probably the most ruthless. They very rarely give up. They even give hyenas a difficult time.
No leopard would ever dare to attack a wild dog where there's more than one of them. The title is wrong.
Imagine the fear of sleep paralysis, but the stalking thing in the room is a predator trying to eat you while you sleep... thats nature
Roles can quickly reverse in Africa.
Lions and buffalos Leopards and Painted Wolves Cheetahs and Everything
@@GenericDan "cheetahs and everything" _ouch._
When the hunter becomes the hunted
Wrong move by leopard. Wild dogs ran after seeing the leopard but when they noticed that leopard ran too, fear was gone to them 😂
There was no way that leopard was going to attack one of four sleeping wild dogs-you could see her sizing up the situation and was prob. getting ready to leave until that one dog woke up
How can these dogs be endangered when I've never once seen them on film taking a L? Not that I'm wishing for harm to come to them, but I thought this might be the time, until the leopard got closer and it didn't look to me like there was enough of a size difference for it to successfully grab one and run before the others rallied.
Lions are also endagered, its humans of course
because you aren't watching a human drop a bunch of poisoned meat into the middle of this pack, or watching a human shooting them. animals evolve to meet the challenges with their environment and when wild dogs evolved there wasn't a bipedal super-predator they had to deal with. same story for literally every other animal on the brink of extinction.
Pretty much every endangered animal is a result of humans. These guys being threatened is due to being caught in snare traps, and they were also historically hunted in the masses. Also, habitat loss causes them to move further into the territory of larger predators namely, leopards, lions and rival packs (hyenas are also fully capable of taking them down if they catch one out in the open, but tend to be more after their kills than their pups).
Humans.
Animals in this country are becoming extinct because we keep cutting trees down in order to build homes. Poor things have nowhere to go and end up getting killed on the highways.
*cameras start rapid shutter noise* Sleeping dogs: 👀
Flirting with painful death. Those dogs are wild. They eat their food live and they have a well coordinated battle strategy. A lone leopard stands no chance with these brutes.
woah that is not how I expected things to go 😅
He's got the a lot less indecisive and move a little faster if the wants to get one and still manage to avoid the rest of the pack.
Looked like it was curious, rather than hunting.
Leopard gps : tree near me
We have about a hundred plus Jaguars the hills of New Mexico Colorado and Arizona not many people know that including breeding Jaguars with Cubs. They used to be all over the US but we're extirporated until recently when they were added to an endangered species. But many people don't believe we have spotted Jaguars right here in the US.
He wasn't hunting that lepord look like he was a teen curious more than anything. No look of hunger but curiosity. 😂
Leopard failed his calculation successfully
Titel should be "Wild dogs tying to hunt a Leopard"
The Wild Dogs woke up really quick as it was saying, “PREDATOR ALERT, PREDATOR ALERT ATTACK.”
It looks the leopard's very first experience with Hyenas 😂 Much love from Wild Observer 🎉
Not hyenas, pal... But does look like a young 'un, bit inexperienced🤔🙂 The 'prey'😉 are African Hunting Dogs, African Wild Dogs, African Painted Wolves, etc, etc - their name seems to keep bloody changing, even on BBC/Attenborough documentaries which are generally quite true/factual🙂
Exactly what I expected, the dogs didn't have time to run so they fought,
When the hunter becomes the huntee.
Some young leopard do terrible choice sometime, not only try to attack a deadly pack of wild dog, i even see a young female trying to cacth a lezard just next a giant pride of lions, the documentary narrator even said "I think you stay to longer on the sun"😅
Why the camera was so freaken loud as well as girl talking. They all have immense hearing. Wow humans
Cause it's all over bait. Dogs were sleeping around meat.
Those wild dogs are no joke
So lucky to have seen this.
Que son tiernos los perros salvajes ...
Nothin beat team work
those damn camera noises
😢 estimates have the African Wild Dog population, at less than 10,000.
The hunter became hunted😂
Wondering if the leopard kept his arse 😅😂🤣 They are viscous 👀
Why worry when you got human beings close by to alert yoy with loud Cameras and always starting the vehicle anytime a predator walks by
'Hey..You know what time it is' - wild dogs. .😂😂
This leopard has zero intention of hunting those dogs.
jup, it would make no sense. the dogs were probably sleepy from feeding nearby and the leo wanted part of it
It looks like In general they dont hunt wild dogs, its a pretty bad bet for a Leopard It was probably a juvenile exploring
Leopard would have taken a single dog, only to take it out of the competition for food.
@@Ro-dent Yes, the hesitation was just because there were several. Even if this leopard wasn't hungry, if it were a single dog, it would have attacked it without thinking.
The camouflage is crazy
Wild dogs are no walk over. Only a lion could pull off a successful hunt. Leopoard was just bluffing
The noise from the camera woke the dogs🤣
Let sleeping dogs lie. I think that leopard knows that now 😂
Cute young leopard
Well the reality of it is simple as this. For arguments sake even if the Leopard sneaked up and got hold of one wild dogs the latter would put up a struggle alerting the rest of the pack which in turn would have torn that Leopard to shreds. Wild Dogs viciously attack Hyenas and there is footage of a Wild Dog pack attacking a Lioness viciously who is protecting her cub. Also due to the prone position of the Wild Dogs maybe the Leopard was not aware what they actually were and might have mistook them for Impala or other type of antelope. The Leopard was the lucky one in this instance.
You can hear the bloodlust in those tourists voices. Sick
the wild dogs said THIS IS THE BENEFIT OF HAVING BIG EARS! 😂
The one who had to watch at that moment, fell asleep 😓
That leopard was investigating if the wild dogs were food or not but found out real quick they were a force to be reckon with as tbey chased him away. Like the 3 stooges.
Only Lions can defeat Dogs rest are not cos they are so united. Very powerful
Wild dogs ended up hunting Leopard 😂
Climax twist 🤣🤣🤣🤣
If there had been a big tree nearby the leopard might have went for it.
The leopard wasn’t hunting but simply was trying to pass. As soon as the wild dogs saw the leopard that chased it.
Good thing the big cat wasn't a Jaguar or Tiger.
I’m surprised the dogs didn’t wake up from the camera clicking. Any way you could turn that up even louder?
Those wild dogs 🐕 ears erect👂 antennas in their sleep 😅
O predador conhece e respeita o outro quando está em desvantagem.
Wild dogs be like, "sisya hidile avna koi koi koi.." 😂
Another vertical video for my vertical TV and my wall-armchair
True definition of let the sleeping dogs sleep 😂😂😂😂
Indeed...
I think dogs were doing acting of sleeping 😂 so they can find their prey 😂😂😂😂
I think the leopard was just curious and maybe even hoping for a bit of opportunism in case a cub was in reach of a snatch and run distance.
Pup.
Leopard is thinking... do I really wanna risk getting my junk eaten by those notoriously ravenous wild dogs...nope, not today
Homie stalked them fo a min
Imagine being a wild animal in Africa, and you had a long day of hunting and eating only to go to sleep and becoming the next meal yourself, a stressful life.
The leopard knows it's a bad market no way it will attack one without others waking up 😅
The wild dogs shut that shit down real quick lol.
