  • No commentary, no music. 22 minutes of pure suspense. They both could eat each other up. But they respectfully synced and played. Hats off...

    • @@4thlinemaniac356 Because it was Not white's move! It was black's move, so Fischer played Rxc3+ & continued to check Spassky & eventually won the game. Sorry, it's an easy mistake to make. Best regards, jc

  • Couldn't Spassky have held off Fischer's pawns with his Rook and King, while holding Fischer's Rook captive with his Bishop and Pawn? When he moved his Bishop to e4, I think the best he could have hoped for was a draw.

  • the best!!!!!

    • I'm not sure about this, but I think the idea is for black to trade off the F pawn for the bishop, then trade off the rooks, and the white king cannot take on b3 without allowing the pawn to queen (so with alll pieces off the board, the black king can maneuver to shoulder out the white king, or checkmate with the pawns). Alternately, if the black rook gets to the first rank, one of those pawns will queen. There were a lot of moves in that game that left me wondering if I knew anything at all about how to play chess.
