  • I was born in East London but as youngster my parents moved to Bromley Kent. It was a bit of a hike to Upton Park but nothing used to beat the feeling of getting off at Upton Park and walking down to the Stadium on match day. It didn’t feel quite the same going to the London Stadium but still enjoyable as I felt I was going back to my roots. In retirement I have relocated to Shropshire so don’t get down much. However I would hate it if the Stadium moved too far away from the area and would feel for those fans who are still local to it. Once a Hammer always a Hammer⚒

    • The people and their culture makes the place, so Essex is the new West Ham Heartland. There are no roots for West Ham or Englishmen left in East London. I think the population in East Ham is only 1-2% English in the census. Most of the people there don't like English pub culture either, because it's against their faith. There are many reasons why birds of a feather flock together but let's not get into it here. We all know what's going on. It would be fantastic and would revitalize that part of the country. I think Colchester and Ipswich are the regional locals, so not much competition for us.

Even back to the Upton Park days, those who live around the local area to the ground are not West Ham fans, or football fans. I think we all know why that is! Much easier to buy a sari on Green Street , than a West Ham shirt. That was not the case so much when I first starting going there in the 70s. • I actually think there's so much potential if the stadium and match day experience was redeveloped at Stratford. As much as it isn't a football stadium, i've grown to be content with the LS. The transport links are good and there are enough places around the ground to get pre-match drinks. The ease of getting to Stratford has become one of the appeals for me. I know it's far from perfect, but if it came more difficult or time consuming to get too, I'd find myself going less.

  • Having lived most of my life in the East London corridor , I would like to think I know that area pretty well. Redevelopment of the whole area has been underway for many years. There are very few sites left that would suit, any that do exist are along the Thames itself with the most obvious being the Rainham marshes area. However the transport links are extremely poor and would need huge investment. Unless Fords are about to close their Dagenham plant you would need to look further east. The one site that maybe interesting is the Essex Arena which is located just behind the M25 services at junction 30. Road access is reasonable (although extremely busy) via the M25 and there is a C2C main line station next to the Lakeside shopping complex. Both would take massive investment to handle the level of fans on match days. I guess the club would know where their fan base is these days, I would suggest a high % is in Essex as mentioned. Congestion charges & Ulez has pushed many people into Essex, many industries have already relocated that way as well taking east London jobs with them. Interesting to see how this all pans out. I would prefer to stay in London but lets see what the people with the money do...

  • Stratford has excellent transport links and could hardly be closer to West Ham. The new/adapted stadium must surely remain on the same site for the name West Ham United to have any meaning. As long as there is around 60-70k seats which are as close to the pitch as possible and the seats must be very steep (like the seats in evertons new stadium) as this gives the best atmosphere. But the only way for this to happen is if a buyer from the middle east buys shares in the club

We are an East London club by tradition but I didn't fall in love with West Ham for its location but for its colors, tradition and support. My main concern is what's happening with the London Stadium. Ive not plucked the courage to go yet due to other commitments but from the TV it looks bang average to me. I think the location is ok from fans I've spoken too so I would rather just redesign the stadium to make the seats closer to the pitch. Get the seats closer and remove the gaps in the stands and its nearly problem solved.

  • Originally from East Ham, but no longer live in London. Upton Park was a transport bottle neck. On match days we had to put up a barrier on the off street parking to prevent cars from parking there so that my dad could park there for when he got back from work. Upton Park Station was not ideal either. If we can relocate to somewhere with decent transport links and good parking facilities in Essex closer to the East end it might be a trade off for a purpose built stadium. Upton Park will always be our spiritual home as far as I'm concerned but its transport links were a nightmare. The London Stadium does have good transport links but not ideal as a stadium. To have a stadium that can become our spiritual home with good transport links should be the ultimate goal.

  • There’s less than no chance of a relocation to Essex/Tilbury etc. Gonzo is right to point government energy on developing the estuary, but the value of West Ham is predicated on that location, & it’s actually much much cheaper to a) redevelop the LS as is or b) build a new purpose built football stadium on the running track next door & continue playing on the LS site until it’s done. They would allow the LS ground area to be redeveloped for luxury residential, or as a flexible covered arena for live music / US football tours etc etc

Its a shame, upon park should of been redeveloped and knocked down . It didn't happen ,we moved to a bigger stadium more support, but not fit for football. So although I'm in Essex now myself, moving to Essex would be great for me, realistically, upgrade London stadium, make it compact ,66,000 capacity, move athletics to crystal Palace. • If West Ham came to own the stadium and its immediate surroundings, it would require a huge payout and hamper the team. Construction would also probably force West Ham into some kind of stadium share scenario, with the terrifyingly likely case that it would be with Spurs unless they went to Wembley. It is certainly doable but it comes with a huge asterisk, as well as the government selling the land at a massively cut price to what its worth

For me, that would be the cheapest solution. Your thoughts?.

  • I still think an investor would buy the stadium, the athletics gets moved to Birmingham and then you can deal with making the stadium fit for purpose for football, concerts (and one offs like rugby etc). Still think you would want to keep the ground at that 65k mark but steeper banks, no gaps between upper and lower tiers, a more compact option. As others have said, the transport anywhere along the river would be a shocker and Stratford is a hub for the Lizzie Line, Greater Anglia, DLR, tubes, South Eastern and Overground as well as buses and coaches. There is too much going for Stratford IF you get the stadium right...

The location we have now is ok, but the stadium is inadequate. In particular, the upper tier needs replacing. No one should be that far from the pitch or from amenities. The lower tier should be a bit nearer, but is generally ok. I do miss leaning on the wall of the Chicken Run though, and would happily have that back.

Many hammer's fans still lived in east London at that time, 34 years later most have moved away so I can see this happening as our core fans reside in Essex. However, I'd take Dagenham /Rush Green ground for a new stadium.

  • I don't believe we will move. Your comment the other day regarding the current Stadium. I think if "we" buy it. It is easily adaptable to a better Stadium. Look at Bayer Leverkusen Stadium. The Roof technically is floating above the stands. Move the lower tiers right close to the pitch (They do move), then over a period of time change, change the upper tiers season by season to fit in. Move the BML, change upstairs. Then Brooking Lower, and upper. Then change the others. Remember the Dome. That was temporary. Look at it today. 24 years in. All changed under the main roof. I think it can be made better and I think cheaper than you think.
