The OPD has been under federal oversight which is basically probation/parole for over a decade. So, my question is who are the real criminals... those inside the department or those outside the department?

This reporting is pretty onesided. They let the guy who has doubts about Lau's innocence talk for about 10 seconds.

@@Skavatar789 sorry, that’s not a viable excuse. I’m not saying he’s the only one at fault, but he was apart of the failure to punish the cop in question. This is why departments should not investigate themselves, conflict of interest and incompetence.

Dating a fellow officer? Unreported car crash hit and run and discharge of gun in an elevator. Doing everything that’s not supposed to be done, but complaining about internal procedures. That’s why OPD continues to remain under federal oversight.

Should have fired your incompetent subordinate to begin with. He had plenty of opportunity to rectify the situation. Everyone thinks cops deserve unquestioned respect regardless of any incompetent actions. A burger flipper would be fired for less.

@Reality Check The cop that killed that disabled guy in a Costco in Southern California said that he feared for his life when the victims were running away yet he killed the disabled guy, shot the mom and dad but he maintains his innocence. Is this not an example of more police bullshit.

Mayor Thao is the top dog of this City, yet she has No Comment ever about the deterioration of her police dept. Residence need verbal reassurance the police are still serving city during all their drama. If she would cut the strings of her puppet master Libby, she might be able to come with her own fresh ideas of handling all the problems of this city-that was the hope, when folks voted for her.

Why in the hell would one give up a Captain position in Oakland for the Parks District? Assuming he applied before any of this? He would get zero overtime over there! Makes no sense.

Good guy never wins. He is better off seeking a new profession where he is respected and appreciated. Thank you for your service sir. Move on and out of that corrupted place. My son is studying criminology and it breaks my heart hearing this. I’d constantly warned him that crazy stuff like this will happen to good cops becoming scapegoats. Hopefully he sees it before it’s too late.

The corrupt get exposed. This is a prime example of police thinking they are above the law and covering up scandals only to have it come back to them and leaving them on their own. This is well deserved.
Most likely, Captain Lau stuck by the Blue Code, and tried to downplay the hit-and-run, and gun play by Officer Chung, even he knew it was the wrong thing to do. Everybody blaming everybody for trying to cover up for Officer Chung, and for the dishonesty/ignorance/incompetency of other officers. Hopefully, Wilson Lau will not get your job back, at both agencies. He can always apply for a security job at McDonalds or Target. He can keep track of the correct number of napkins, and ketchup packets being given out to paying customers at McDonalds. Then again, he might not be qualified with their high standards.

this is all part of the coordinated effort of the small business community trying to keep the police department as their private security force. the same group that called for extra protections for themselves. the same group that got the sgt chung in a special division for their specific needs. the same group that got don lim working for them. the same group who wants to recall the new district attorney. the same group that got the chief of police fired for covering for their poster boy. it is a small business group that wants to use some crimes to get city funded private security guards. and they dont represent the community as a whole.
