  • Incredible job, guys! I expected nothing less from the best of the best in the editing world. Thanks so much for having me on! My mom is gonna crack up at that video of her in a Poo Emoji costume dancing to Madonna. Really appreciate the opportunity to nerd out on a topic I'm so passionate about. Hope we can connect again soon! 🥰 -Amy

  • The thing about being an editor of talking head videos is that you are not just an editor, you are also a scriptwriter in mind, conceptualizing the visuals, effects, (that could have been in the script in the first place) and where to put them. You becamea graphic designer too, animator, motion graphic artist etc hahah sometimes you also became a researcher and a meme finder. But I guess, that is the part where we practiced our creative license so yeah

  • I love the little points you add, "pattern interruption is any visual change & re-focuses a viewers attention" i need to start noting these down, so easy to forget these things when you are actually editing

  • This was probably my favorite episode yet. All the things Amy talked about were so relatable and applicable. I loved that you all brought up the amount of time it takes to find assets to add into your videos. Feel like that aspect of editing is never fully appreciated, and the fact that she is so comfortable with motion graphics is insanely underrated. I hope this episode gets some love.

  • This is 100% my style of video! Once I added humor into my videos, I grew pretty fast. Especially talking about the housing market, real estate, finance. Awesome video! I can relate.

    • Yeah, but honestly, their ads are specific to editors. And I love them. They're just as informative as the rest of the video. That music service looks awesome! I'm kinda over Epidemic sound. 😂

  • Fantastic interview. So many great tips. The secret really is to finding a rhythm that works. Once you have this, the rough cut becomes really quick. Now it’s the b-roll and overlays that take up most of my time with editing my own videos. That said, I have also found that it really does wonders to have one or two parts in a video where viewers need to pause to take in information. (The Easter eggs.)

  • Me eating this like 🥢🌯🍬🍮🥚🫒🥖🥔🍦🍛 Editing is definitely its own philosophy and art form. I just started making videos because I was angry and the idea of editing came quite naturally to me because I was used to being in punk bands and recording on four and eight tracks.the idea of layering video made complete sense. Learning how to edit and make it look good has been an entirely other thing that I've been learning. I appreciate you sharing this and getting a perspective from a channel that I actually really enjoy too❤ And can I beg you all to take Joel's advice on advertising please. Advertising should be about creating, not reading a script. Please ask your advertisers if you can go hog-wild with it. Unless you want to continue doing the talking head format. I'm very new to your channel but yeah. To that. Shouldn't be kowtowing to advertisers, they should be kowtowing to you because they want you to advertise for them, right? Not trying to be rude, cheers!

  • SO much value here. No wonder she edits for the titans of their respective niches. It's taken so many years to WANT to accelerate my mograph learning. Videos like this inspire that. 10/10 and subscribed to her channel. Also, the struggle of what to 'templatize' is REAL.

Granted giving the focus of my videos is usually travel there generally isn't much I can change in post that wouldn't make the issue even more jarring so I tend to just CUT more.
