    • @@feIon Except making pokemon unbattle-able isn't miniscule. It doesn't just affect capturing pokemon, but training as well. Yeah, you get experience and stat boosting candies from capturing pokemon and that is actually enough if you are being smart about it, but the limited nature of this method given that you are eventually going to run out of poke balls and money to buy poke balls (and trainers to make money from), just makes the whole process more stressful in a game that is supposedly supposed to be more relaxed. Not to mention training this way adds the 'fun' chore of endlessly reorganizing your pokemon box shipping all the crap you've caught to Oak while avoiding accidentally sending your keepers. Would it have hurt to at least give us a separate box to have our keepers in if spam capturing was going to be the training method of choice in this game?

  • This is coming from someone who only played a few pokemon games and has no nostalgia for the gen 1 games or whatever. I bought the game because I recently got a Switch and just wanted to add some games to my library. This game ended up being insanely fun for me, actually. Personally I think that the game isn't perfect but it's far from being a bad game. It looks really nice and the remade soundtrack is amazing. The motion controls suck at the start but get a bit better once you get used to them. I actually really like how the random encounters are so much less annoying now, I just don't like the pokemon go style catching. Also yes, the difficulty at the beginning is way too low. You can generally just cruise through the first few gyms. It gets a bit harder after that though, and that makes it a lot more fun. The game is fun, but it's up to you to decide if it's worth 60$. Overall, a great game to introduce Pokemon GO players and more casual players like myself who generally don't like grinding as much to the franchise. The game is certainly not a 0/10 like most of the entitled idiots on metacritic would like you to believe. 7.5/10 for me.

    • It's nuts man, it's not like this was advertised as the next main game installment. The creators themselves said this would be different and that a main game is coming next year. 60$ is way too much however, even 40 is a lot. The main series games were about 40 and they have tons more content. 30 $ would have been good imo. Anyway, I'm glad there's a bridge between go and main games so I can hopefully have my friends be on board for the next main game.

  • I've been waiting for this game for at least a year now. I got Let's Go Eevee because Eevee is my second favorite first generation Pokemon behind Mew. I am enjoying most aspects of the game currently and agree with just about everything said in this Before You Buy. I appreciate that they fixed a lot of the balance problems of the first generation with regards to the Psychic type and the Special Attack stat. They also added the IVs to the first generation and added a Judge option as well so when you catch a Pokemon, you can see right away whether or not the Pokemon is worth investing in. The Judge command tells you what the Pokemon stats will look like when maxed out. I'm not far enough to "Shiny Hunt" yet, but from what I've gathered, it's considerably easier this time around. Actually, the difficulty of the game overall is much, much easier when compared to other version releases, and especially easier when compared to Red/Blue/Yellow. Your "rival" is more of a friend this time around, which makes me feel guilty about naming him Douche. The original Douche, Gary, does make an appearance though. The only real complaint I have is wild Pokemon, and the catching system overall. It's not difficult at all to land Great and Excellent throws, but the success rate of catching a Pokemon is wildly random. Pokemon with around 1000 combat power might be caught on the first throw with a normal Pokeball, and the next Pokemon will break out of a dozen Ultra Balls before running away. It's so frustrating. That said, I think the game is worth it. The fact that it focuses on the first generation only opens the possibility of adding new pokemon and regions in the future with DLC or a season pass or something.

  • My first Pokemon was Pokemon Red on the gameboy classic, and I enjoyed it, but I became obsessed with Pokemon Yellow when it came out, even though it was essentially the same game, they added the elements of the anime series. It was the only game in which I filled the Pokedex, trading pokemon with other kids with the old cable system. Then my younger sister decided "she wanted to play" and my mum gave her the gameboy when I wasn't at home. One day I came home and switched my game on and I had a really heartbreaking experience when my sister had deleted my save. It's been over 20 years and I still bring it up sometimes XD. I only recently bought the Nintendo Switch and I think I'll definitely be playing this game.

  • People keep saying that this game has been dumbed down, but honestly competitive Pokemon has never been more accessible due to this game and the meta is actually really interesting. SInce Megas and Alolan forms are in the game it completely changes what it was in RBY and always around stealth rock means every team has to be prepared for it. Also, the fortune teller makes it so that you can always get the right nature pokemon for your build, and combo catches let you maximize IVs easily. Sure, grinding for candies can be a bore but there is a candiless lvl 50 mode so that isn't even an issue. Also, that means we effectively have two metas since some mons, like chansey, are only good in candyless meta. In short, while the story mode is easy, the game is still lots of fun for hardcore Pokemon fans. And if you want the extra challenge, then don't use candies, change the game type from "switch" to "set" and use mid-tier or permadeath pokemon. When were these games ever hard anyways?

    • Matt Heitmann i can’t say that this is worth buying a switch just to play. This game was catered toward casuals not people who have bought every single Pokémon game. The lack of abilities is the hardest pill to swallow. And grinding for candies is what I wanted at all. This is Pokémon go for the switch not a Pokémon rpg. It looks nice but it’s not a game people who want to be competitive will play we would rather play untra sun and moon and restart the story 4 times before attempting to be competitive on this. And stealth rock is not the only way to play competitive btw. Sure there was a time here or there but I wasn’t something that was so prevalent that it killed the competitive scene...... you could easily get around stealth rock with a first turn Ko which would happen a lot. Or a move that made Pokémon flinch. There’s moves to get rid of stealth rock as well.

Its very handholdy and can't see that many situations where your stuck in a cave and like feel pressured or in danger basically ever. The game feels very safe and thats one of the criticisms. • My pros and cons: Pros - Pokemon spawning in the overworld was a great addition. Absolutely stunning and beautiful mechanic to add to the games. - It's an easy game for newer people to get into. The mechanics and concept of battling are made easier (ie super effective moves do a lot more damage to emphasize and reward good type matchups and vice versa). - It is still pretty faithful to the original game, so definitely still enjoyable for older fans of the game as well. Cons - I was personally a big fan of the battling wild Pokemon system to catch them. I loved the tension of having whittle down a Pokemon's health without killing them in order to be able to catch them most effectively. While I did enjoy Pokemon Go, I really had hoped that mechanic would stay in the mobile game. I know some people prefer this catching system to battling wild Pokemon, but I personally just liked battling more. - The game content seems a bit lacking for the 60 dollar price tag. Compared to the more recent titles, it just feels like it has severely less content to be a full priced game. Even though I really enjoyed myself with it, it just doesn't have enough in it (again, compared to what we have been getting recently) for me to definitively say that I can justify the $60. In the end, it is up to you to decide. If you are a long time Pokemon fan, then I definitely recommend the game; it is certainly worth a go. But if you're a bit on the fence, I would say see if you can find a cheaper version or a used version or something because after playing it, you might not be able to tell yourself that it was a good use of the whole 60 bucks.

  • The whole catching useless Pokemon to level up was a huge turnoff for me. Also I tend to only catch Pokemon I intend to use, so I'll usually beat the Champ with ~30-40 different Pokemon in the dex... And then Kogas gym happened and I had to go out and catch 35 new Pokemon just to be allowed to battle there. That was the point where this game died for me tbh. In a new Gen game where I want to try out new Pokemon that's fine. But this? I didn't catch a single flying type because I knew I'd get Zapdos (which would replace Pikachu as my electric type as well) and maybe Articuno, so I didn't worry about getting an ice type either, I got a Bulbasaur and that was all the grass/poison my team needed, you get the point. Like what the hell? Let me play the way I want to, if I decide I want to focus on useful Pokemon don't make me catch garbage. I'm gonna do that once I'm there Champ, once I can catch Pokemon I might want to evolve at a high enough level that I don't have to grind then up anymore, not halfway through the game because reasons

I haven't played since the original Pokemon Red/Blue/Green days. And yet, taking this game out for a spin was such a blast. They did revamp how to approach battle, granted that we don't actually battle wild Pokemon, but rather catch them. However, I think this was Nintendo's attempt to take elements of Pokemon GO as well as target the younger generations as well. This is a family friendly and less grindy game. I feel it was focused on adventure, catching Pokemon and interactive play. This was at the trade off of alienating those who loved the older generation games. Again, it was reviews like this that inspired me to play Pokemon: Lets go Eevee! I have a let's play on my channel and I encourage people to watch it to see the mechanics of the game and have fun while doing it. Thanks once again for the review.

    • Its like a remastered game version of pokemon origins. If you watch the 4 episodes you will know that the storyline is the same but this time you are red although there is one already but its the same story ......like you can’t catch wild mew as same as red didn’t catch it in the series or the ghost marwok and all that....... it has the first original pokemons each with their different attributes and beauty unlike the new generation pokemons........ so yeah its a remastered kinda game of the pokemon red blue i guess but a lot better

  • I have put about 15 hours into Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and I am in love with it. The catching of all wild Pokemon ala Go style instead of battling them doesn't change much for me. You still find them randomly, still have to complete a process to catch them, and still get exp for it. Everything else is just like Gen 1 but with some simplicity and it's obviously easier than Red/Blue/Yellow were. Other than that, it's a fine remake of Pokemon Yellow and our first ever big console Pokemon game.

  • So I’ve been playing Pokémon for the past 17 years of my life and I’m gonna be honest I stopped playin sun and moon about ten hours in. Not that game is bad or anything it’s just that sun and moon relatively felt the same as the previous generation and i had been starting to feel that all Pokemon games were the same now and I wasn’t super into it anymore. I only bought the let’s go on a whim I wasn’t planning on getting it until a friend asked me to do he’d have someone to trade with, and I’m so glad I got it. Honestly I know it’s a lot simpler and has a lot of weird new things that don’t fit amazingly well with the Pokémon we’re used to. But that’s the thing. It’s not the Pokémon we’re used to. It’s new! It has flaws and is definitely not aimed at gamers who have a high skill level but that’s not what it’s trying to be. It’s just trying to change up the series and evolve it. Pun intended. I honestly love the game and hope Nintendo continues to change the formula further. Not too much further though ;-)

  • I understand the resistance. However, I'm still a little surprised by it. I mean... it's not like GameFreak was trying to keep this game's changes a secret. They haven't done anything to imply that these new mechanics are here to stay for future games. I'm hoping they'll listen to feedback and change what is unnecessary, trivial, or gimmicky. That being said, yeah, I was hoping for more. I do feel like GameFreak definitely held back. I got the Pikachu edition anyway and I am loving it! Admittedly, I'm biased to Pokemon, but still. For me, it's a placeholder. I never expected it to be the "next big thing," because like I said, GameFreak never marketed these games to be the next big thing. They're like an "on-ramp" for super causal Pokemon Go! players. Hopefully, they can rake in ultra-casual fans and get the hype going for next year's game. I'm being cautiously optimistic about next year's game. Pokemon fans are hard to please, though. Every new game gets some dose of insta-hate, and it's super annoying.

    @mosiah9205@mosiah92055 жыл бұрын
    • I'm still really skeptical of it; I loved Pokémon fights and knowing that it's only trainers now was disappointing to me. I think Game Freak made this to appeal to Pokémon Go players, and I love that! The more people playing Pokémon the better; Game Freak will have more money to make better/more games. I think this was more an experiment for them, while also being an attempt to grow the fan base. They needed to work on the engine of the game for the Switch. The only reason I'm not getting it is honestly just because I'm not a huge fan of Kanto. It was okay, I just never really enjoyed it and was disheartened when they announced it was Kanto. That being said, Game Freak did say that if it did well they'd do more of the games (remakes) like it. If they do I'd be first in line for Jhoto and Sinnoh.

      @kodywebb5619@kodywebb56195 жыл бұрын
    • @@kodywebb5619 Kudos to you for being so level-headed. I'm all for this game because of the reason you say: more money for GameFreak = better/more games (hopefully). If they do continue these "Let's Go" games, they could potentially release a new Pokemon Game every year (unless they start to release exclusively on the Switch, in which case, probably not). Honestly, the removal of wild battles wasn't as big of a deal to me, personally, as I anticipated it to be. It's not the same by any means, but it's not *bad*. I also agree that this was an experiment. There are some elements that I hope they keep, especially Pokemon in the overworld. That's just really immersive and makes encounters seem alive. I do not regret getting the game at all. Like you, I'm already a fan. Sure, there are things that I wish were different, but as the video said, it's video game "comfort food". That's a perfect analogy. I know what I got myself into, and I'm not salty about it. Honestly, my biggest problem with these games is the hate they're getting. I mean... if you don't think you'll like it, that's 100% fine! It's just funny to me how people appear to get unreasonably upset about the games.

I agree there is a lack of challenge but before emerald's battle frontier there was no challenge In any pokemon game so it's not a surprise. • I didn't originally plan on buying this... but then I saw a used copy for sale in my local GameStop. Who trades in a Pokemon game in 2019? This thing may actually gain value lol. Anyway, I've been pleasantly surprised. I'm a gen 1er that mostly plays new Pokemon games for the new environment, moves, etc. I don't breed, so that doesn't bug me, but I do like the turn based combat in that JRPG "comfort food" sort of way. I wouldn't have minded the changes to encountering wild Pokemon as much if the trainers had more than 3 Pokemon. Most only have 1 or 2, and that goes for a lot of your rival battles too. I'm left yearning for more combat. Rematches akin to Silver and Gold would have been a great end game activity for those of us not interested in fighting the Pokemon Masters. Like, I have no interest in battling Caterpies and Magikarps. Other than that, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the game was pretty well balanced for both leveling and awarding money/Poke balls.
