  • Duncan won 50games/yr every year for 19 years, never missed the playoffs, 6 finals, 5 rings. Did it against; Shaq, Kobe, Hakeem, Dirk, Lebron. He owned the league for a decade or more. Sorry for all those who want to minimize by saying he had a lot of help but Duncan won without Parker and Ginobli and the supposed great coach Pop is still there. No other great player has done that. That dynasty was all about one player: TIm Duncan. While he was there everything the Spurs touched turned to gold. What's happened since he left?

    • What's your favorite Tim champ and why? 1999 Shorten season vs the weak Knicks. I'm impressed. 2003 Dirk played in only half the series. Plus you can debate the refs bailed out the spurs vs the 2003 Lakers. Everyone remembers the Lakers getting saved just the year before vs the kings so they let spurs get away with questionable calls. I even remember Marv Albert and Bill Walton calling out the refs. Funny how spurs fans have forgotten about this. 2005 What was Tim shooting again? He shot horrible again during the 2007 finals so it wasn't just the Pistons. The short 1999 season vs the weak Knicks and the finales over the weak Nets are the only two FMVP Tim won without a challenge from his own teammates. Yes there's a debate that Manu should win 2005 FMVP. 2007 Who shot worse? Lebron or Tim? Yet again The Spurs got saved vs the sun's. Spurs fans will pretend this never happened. 2014 Load management and loaded roster to help Tim Duncan. It's ironic some call Tim Duncan "Mr Fundamental" when he would choke at the free throw line in close games. Then to top it off Spurs started load management. You can thank the Spurs for everyone sitting during the regular season now. Plus people tend to forget he choked to an 8rh seed in 2011. Yet Tim fans will pretend this never happened.

    • @@JamesHardenoverKobe So you're saying Duncan accomplished all of that because of the refs giving favorable calls? come on man. I remember them fouling out Timmy as he was about to take over and win the series against the Mavs then putting Dirk on the line every time he passed half court on ghost calls. That's how the Dallas made it to the finals. As for all of those titles you're trying to discount, as I said, Shaq, Lebron, Kobe, were all playing at that time and in the prime. They just couldn't beat the Spurs cause they had Duncan. He was the most dominate player in the league at that time. And he would have won 6 against the Heat had Pop not made those bone headed subs down the stretch and had Duncan on the bench as Bosh got those two rebounds to kick out to Allen. He was dominating that game. I'd pick him over almost any player in history. And win.

  • Great compilation for my man, Tim Duncan! Just a quick note, Duncan swept Shaq, Kobe & Glenn Rice in the 1999 playoffs before they won their 1st championship together and subsequently a 3-peat with the Lakers. Then Timmy slammed their door for their 4-peat attempt on his way to his 2nd championship in 2003 and 2nd Finals MVP. That just tells you how great Tim Duncan was. His resume is stacked among all time greats: - 5x Champion - 3x Finals MVP - 2x Regular Season MVP - 15x All NBA Team - 15x All Defensive Team (NBA record) - 15x All-Star - 2000 All-Star Co-MVP - 1997-98 Rookie of the Year - 19 Years with at least 50 wins (except 1999 lockout shortened season with 50 total games played) (NBA Record) - Playoffs Leader in Blocks & Double-Doubles If not for some bad luck here and there, they might have won 5 straight championships in the mid-2000s which would have been crazy. And another championship in 2013. Top 5 player in my book!

    • Thanks for your comment, bro. Just to supplement your comment, Duncan’s performance shine in the big moments, especially in playoffs, not like those regular season hyped players. Here is Duncan’s major advanced stats: PER 24.2 (9th in NBA history) VORP 18.56 (3rd in NBA history, behind Jordan and LeBron) Win Shares 37.84 (3rd in NBA history, behind Jordan and LeBron) Duncan also got 164 double-doubles (most in NBA history) and 568 block-shots (also most in the NBA history) So basically, stats-wise, at least from the perspective in playoffs advanced stats, Tim Duncan is easily top 10 or even top 5 player in NBA history. Period.

  • I agree with Shaq on 03 Duncan, he literally carried the spurs to a ring. The whole team shot badly throughout the playoffs, he beat Kobe and Shaq, Nowitzki in the West, and beat the 2nd place MVP in J Kidd with one of the best close out games ever. The rest of the squad was a washed David Robinson, older role players, a good Stephen Jackson (in spurts), and Tony and Manu were too young. Of course the big 3 was one of the great consistent cores of all time, but TP and Manu were impactful from 04 on.

They saw the way the "Beautiful Game" Spurs played and assumed it was always that way. Because of that Popovich started to develop of a massive cult of personality following and people got the misconception that he was the lynchpin of the Spurs success and not Tim Duncan. The reality is Duncan was carrying some pretty underwhelming teams up until the mid-2000's when Manu hit his prime ('04-'05) and then eventually Parker a year later. It's an absolute travesty that neither Duncan or Pippen ever won a DPOY. If Tim had been an outspoken player on a big market franchise, he would be in the top 5 convo all the time

      @PhoenixAscending@PhoenixAscending Жыл бұрын
  • He's a center ,not a power forward, the only time he exsclusively played the poweforward position was when david Robertson was his teammate ,he played center during the spurs final appearances when they encountered the miami heat ,when the nba allstar game created the formatt of a positionless platform ,it primarily benifetted Tim Duncan who was making several of those all star western conference teams as a tweener . Undoubtedly his elite versatility inabled him the luxury of performing at a elite level at both interior spots ,but the bulk of his career success was as a center ,not a power forward. Bob Petit, Elvin Hayes, Karl Malone,Charles Barkley, Kevin Garnette , Dirk Nowitzski , are the rightful, objective candidates for best nba power forward in history because they occupied that position exsclusively their entire careers ,their greatest success was at the power forward position . Many media pundits and nba historians make the proclamations of Tim Duncan beung the greatest power forward in order to create a narrative of him having being #1 at a position because their infatuation with the spurs dynasty, duncan would never be objectively percieved even a top 5 all time center ,if his flag was planted on that soil , thus the irrational myrh of him being the greatest pf which has spawned a fable has now been filtered around for years that lacks adequate context to support it . Tim Duncan was a center during him prime and later years , he didnt spend a abundance of years lodged at the power forward spot .

Everyone remembers the Lakers getting saved just the year before vs the kings so they let spurs get away with questionable calls. I even remember Marv Albert and Bill Walton calling out the refs. Funny how spurs fans have forgotten about this.

  • The reason why I can’t give Lebron, KD , steph curry enough praise it’s because they don’t have rivals. They don’t have players they compete head to head with and it looked like wars. Yea Lebron and Steph played in the finals a couple times but it wasn’t a all out drag out situation. The NBA must get back to that. These guys shy away from real competition. The NBA needs rivals and traditional clashes again.
