    • John candy was Uncle Buck. His daughter even said as much in an interview I think. But I remember him saying when he was in the car looking at the two kids in the back through the rear view and the sorrowful look on his face washed over him when he realized what he was doing he was seeing his own children in that seat and he genuinely felt terrible. It’s heart wrenching just watching that scene. He was so amazing at everything he did. I miss his presence in our world very much.

    • @@LordTalax Exactly. As an actor, if he'd lived longer, I think he'd have eventually won an Oscar for Best Actor. That's how much talent he had. Only The Lonely was a very offbeat picture, but he was so believable in it, you couldn't help but root for him and Ally Sheedy.

  • That’s the thing about Tia. As mean as she was in this movie before this scene, you can tell she IS genuinely sorry for what she did, not just because Buck agreed not to tell her parents. She’s really hurt here. You can see she generally feels remorse for what she did. When she says sorry, you can tell she’s saying it from her heart. She’s definently a redeemable character. Even before she did what she did, she did seem to have a pause for what she was doing. I don’t find her change at the end out of character.

    @sliat1981@sliat19815 жыл бұрын
    • She does look really hurt, not physically of course, but feelings wise. Buck was right about Bug. It also makes her hugging her mom at the end fit nicely. As she's sorry how she's been acting towards her parents and I think in this scene she wants her parents.

    • Indeed. And Tia's mother: Cindy, could learn a thing or 2 about that. The reason I say that is Cindy isn't very likeable. She's needlessly picky and fearful over the smallest things. What's even more ridiculous is when Bob suggests Buck look after the kids, Cindy comes up with the lamest excuses for not wanting him there. "He doesn't have kids, he isn't married, he doesn't even work. The trashy people he hangs out with. That woman who sells tires. The horse racing, the gambling." I say, "So he doesn't have kids and isn't married. What's wrong with that. So he hangs out with trashy people. They're not gang members and criminals. His girlfriend doesn't just sell tires, she owns and runs a garage. Again, what's wrong with that?" She tries to make him sound like a drunk, a drug addict, or a criminal who'll neglect and abuse the kids. Sure, he was a goof and not a very good sitter at first, but he still did his best and helped Tia come to terms with her new life. Cindy certainly wasn't trying to help Tia in any way. Tia is upset that her parents, Cindy, accepted a promotion and dragged her away from her friends and other family members in Indianapolis. For a teenager, going through that is tough. Cindy wasn't even trying to comfort Tia. That might explain part of the reason Tia became rebellious. It doesn't excuse Tia from becoming unruly and having a bad attitude, but Cindy must try harder as a parent. I know how Tia feels. I had to move and transfer to another school when I was 11 and almost finished Grade 5. It wasn't easy, although we only moved across town to another neighbourhood. I hardly saw my friends anymore and didn't have many others at my new school. Just became even more of an outcast. My parents didn't care and didn't try to comfort me. They just told me to get over it and move on. They'd say I'll make new friends. Yeah right. That didn't happen. What a surprise. I wasn't exactly rebellious. I mostly stayed in my room, neglected my homework, and rarely studied for tests. Also didn't help around the house unless asked. It only got worse after my friend moved away because his dad was in the military and got transferred.

    • I’m thinking about finding and buying a 77 marquis and screwing with the carb just to make it backfire like that. Lol it’s strange to want a car that shitty. I think that’s a testament to the quality of character John presenter in this great film.

  • John Hughes really makes John Candy's characters, like Del and Buck, find a sentimental piece in their hearts that they were not fully awake to. We truly miss both Candy and Hughes, for the kind of magic that they were able to bring to our lives.
