  • I cannot remember any other person who brought so much excitement to squash. I might suggest Shabana but Ramy is utterly on a different level to everyone else. I recall Jahangir and Jansher's dominance but the style of play at that time to put it bluntly was not really inspiring as their fitness dominated their game so much that the rallies just went on and on until the opponent just collapsed from fatigue. Ramy is the short game super-specialist and can kill off nearly everyone when he's in the groove without using fitness or stamina. Damn I'm sounding like a groupie, but that's exactly what Ramy has brought to the game......AWE!

    • Agreed Tony -- I've had the pleasure of watching many of the great players live -- for example, Geoff Hunt, Jonah Barrington, Jansher Khan, Rod Martin, Rod Eyles and John White. For me, many of them were relentless and somewhat robotic -- none had the same sublime skills that Ramy demonstrates -- as you say, he's on a different level (sorry, I'm being a bit harsh on those other great players!). Also pleased to see that Ramy is a great sportsman. Australian Tristan Nancarrow was a talented and freakish player, but his temperament let him down

  • Love watching the highlights from PSA SquashTV. Ramy looks healthy. Some of his gets were unbelievable. So many great set up shots to force Gawad into loose shots. I hope Ramy has an injury free year!!!

  • Two of the best magicians in squash. Still can't believe ashour racket control - great Reflexes near the front wall and great speed and depth (from a relatively short backswing) 👌. Gawad's retrieval is immense 👍

  • Great to see Ramy back -- Gawad is a great player and I love watching his game, but at times Ramy really made him struggle. Also interesting to see some of Ramy's drives hit with such ferocity that they moved sideways off the front wall.A great match!

  • Please could you start uploading in 60fps, it would make the game look even better! 1080p60 FTW! Thanks for the upload 😉

    • Because these matches are shown on broadcast television there are rules and regulations about what format we have to shoot in, our whole kit is based around these specifications

  • One question, I am relatively new to this domain...why is everybody so obsessed with Ramy Ashour? Also he seems to be the only player referred to by his first name.

    @theadalberthank@theadalberthank7 жыл бұрын
    • The main reason is that he's unbelievable talented, and many believe he could potentially be the number 1 if it wasn't because of the injury problems he's been having, which constantly force him to retire from tournaments. So, at least in my case, I am very excited when he is in good shape and can participate! Hopefully this year we can see him in many tournaments!

      @SantiagoOntanonVillar@SantiagoOntanonVillar7 жыл бұрын
    • To make an ice hockey comparison, he would be Sidney Crosby. There were great players before him that totally dominated the game (Jahangir Khan, Jansher Khan and Jonathon Power), but perhaps none posessed the raw talent that Ramy does. It's unbelievable how much he dominates the court when he's healthy.

      @gragumilo@gragumilo7 жыл бұрын
    • Go watch some of his megarallies. He has charisma on the court, a bit more personality than a lot of the players. A very cerebral player, if you will.

    • James Willstrop says in his book that there are two types of squash he's played: normal squash, and squash against Ramy Ashour. His footwork and wrist position are so weird that you'd probably get yelled at by your coach if you try to copy his style (there are ppl play like him but he's probably the only person who can still pull this off when competing at the highest level). When he's on fire he doesn't grind his opponent down like typical top pros do, instead he completely dismantles them.

      @roywei1987@roywei19877 жыл бұрын
    • It's possible he's called by his first name because his older brother Hisham used to also play on the tour (retired 2-3 years ago?).

    • His unique movement style, racket preparation, unbelievable backhand volley power, deception and variation are my favourite parts of his game :D

      @M0odez@M0odez7 жыл бұрын
    • M0odez another of the big differences between Ramy and his contemporaries is his ability to volley more balls -- many other players are content to play ground strokes off the back wall when confronted with their opponent's drive, but Ramy just waves his magic wand and caresses the ball into the front corner (or drives it deep -- or plays a fading boast) Great stuff!
