  • lovely review - subbed. Pre-capture in RAW is more about the bandwidth control as i understood from their overview, search would be a great idea going forwards, even if its just in the shortcut list so you can find the menu number its on. I guess its all about customer requests, the more ask the more they will move to try it out i guess. Ive seen others say about pre-capture Raw and search so hopefully they are listening to users requests. just happy to be getting updates like this , it adds value as a customer.

  • Great video explaining most critical features and love this camera too but love the Zf more😀. Gone are the days when I was manually focusing my Nikon FE and FM and manual exposure. We had three things to work on, Focus, Exposure and Composition. Now we are holding a complex computer in our hand and expect it to do everything for us. Don't get me wrong I love my new Nikon cameras, I am only comparing them to what I have used over the years and all I can say is that I was having a lot more fun and satisfaction doing photography then than now, just what I experienced and it is subjective. Cheers

    • Understand. I also have film cameras I like to shoot with as it removes all this tech and I focus on other things. I hope with all the tech we have now that camera companies will find a way to simplify it for us. I don’t want a camera doing everything for me but allowing me the option to find the settings I need most without searching on the internet as that takes me away from the photography.

  • i liked your wonderful video - Die hard nikon fans who were feeling let down for a few years are well & truly thrilled with the Z8 & Z9 and all the new firmware updates . The bird detection mode is amazing ( i used it on Z9) . More importantly glass like the 400 2.8 , 600 PF etc have given Nikon a definite edge espy in wildlife photography. However there is one feature which i think could be added through a firmware update & will really help in landscape / candid / city scapes etc - feature required is as follows : Display the overblown highlights as zebra stripes in the viewfinder / lcd even as we adjust the exposure - this will be a killer feature .Sony has this & many pros swear by this feature . What is surprising is that this is available in Video mode in the Z8/9 , why can't this be enabled for stills? It will save a lot of time in terms of shooting pics with the right exposures . I have written this many times to nikon but to no avail. Can you also reach out to nikon & - help in getting this feature incorporated in the next update .

  • Thank you great wrap up, agree with that. What's your opinion of this: astro tracking and auto panning (video/time lapses)? The hardware could allready full fill both since it can perform pixel shift and VR. GPS is actually not needed, the coordinates can be obtained by phone or dialed in manually . - Without a tracker one get exposures of about 8 sec with a 35 mm lens, with an in built tracker 120 seconds is feasible for the VR-system maybe 180 sec. So one can use lower ISO / reach better S/N ratios and capture fainter stuff. - Another thing I think it can be used for auto-panning as well for the longer focal lengths while filming or making time lapses. 2 degrees tilting and/or panning by shifting the sensor is a lot when you use s focal length longer than 135 mm. - Would be an stand out option from the rest of the bunch. Saves you from lugging 2 kg of extra equipment in the mountains.

  • Agreed, search would be a nice feature for any camera. I always have a copy of the user's manual PDF on my smartphone as a workaround but sometimes I feel it would be much easier if a feature can bring me a list of settings directly by searching on the camera indeed. Canon allows to have personal slides of menu settings (allowing you to group settings with your own priorities), would be at least great to have this also on Zs...On the other hand, this Z8 has so many ways of configuring buttons that I hardly see any limitation. Maybe another feature would be great - and Thom Hogan wrote about it - is to have the ability to name saved settings files and recall them by name. (i.e. Telezooms.bin or Standard.bin etc. for instance to have a set of settings for each type of lens attached to the body).

  • Video appreciated! Three questions: 1. A Nikon issue that can be rather easily addressed via firmware and which is VERY serious, as far as I am concerned, but which I am not aware of being mentioned as much as it should: Nikon, as far as I know, does not [and never did] offer an option to correct photo orientation in camera and if 3rd party [software] is thus employed weird things happen to the photo files [JPG’s and NEF’s], which prevent them from being fully recognizable/manageable/editable by the very same camera that took them. Many other manufacturers [Canon, Olympus/OM System, Panasonic, Sony - I am not aware about any others] offer this option in camera, why not Nikon - do they seriously believe their cameras to be immune to being fooled when they are turned directly up- or downwards?! Orientation errors do happen, both ways, all the time and it would be sensible to have such errors corrected in camera with a few clicks [or taps] AND have the option to further edit/process those photos in camera! Does the Z 8 offer this option, then? 2. Has the Z 8 done away - already! - with Nikon’s ridiculous photo files 8.3 naming scheme - or at least is it using one more number instead of an underscore in the filenames - also with creating a new folder every 1000 [2000 if shooting RAW+JPEG] photos?! 3. Does the Z 8 offer a way to QUICKLY recall custom shooting parameter settings, like say the Z 6 II [U1, U2, U3] does, thus avoiding missing the shot while fumbling with the menus?

    @polyviossimopoulos2436@polyviossimopoulos24363 ай бұрын
    • Hi. With the recent firmware update you have auto image rotation in the playback menu. Photo naming can be edited to your preference. Yes Nikon has shooting banks that can recall settings by selecting the bank you programmed your respective settings into. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching

      @btonelli@btonelli3 ай бұрын
    • @@btonelli Thank you for replying, however you do not answer my questions: 1. I am talking about photo orientation *_correction_* , not correct display of already badly oriented photos 2. also *_longer_* filenames, not limited customization of fixed length filenames neither unjustifiably limited amount of photo files in a folder 3. finally I am talking about *_QUICK_* shooting parameter set recall - like, for instance, is the case with the Z 6 II - thus not missing the shot.

  • I think it's awesome. In the past you wouldn't get an update like this. Your have to wait until the next version of that camera came out. Nikon is nearly giving us a new camera with just a firmware update for free. I've already tried the bird detection and it's much better than the previous animal detection. There's things in the update that I may use but some people will. I'm not sure if my computer than handle a large file that the pixel shift gives you. I focus stack and blend exposures all the time which creates a larger file. But that was with my 24 mp z6 II. I haven't tried that with my z8 yet. I have 32 gb of ram in my computer but I think I need to upgrade my processor and maybe the graphics card. But I'm willing to try it once just to see. I haven't tried the recapture yet or the auto capture. It may be 3 more years before a z8 II comes out but if they keep giving us updates I may not need another camera.
