▶ Product History
When did these crafts start to craft?：1300 years ago / 700AD / Yamato period in Japan
With the arrival of Buddhism in the 6th century, Buddhist altars began to be produced in Japan. As time progressed, investigations by Buddhists to outlaw Christianity led to the installation of butsudan (small shrine) in homes. This increased demand for butsudan led to further expansion of production of kyo-butsudan. Even today, the technology used to make butsudan is still being used to develop meticulous products.

With the demand for lacquer decreasing rapidly, we want to convey the beauty of lacquer to a wider variety of people. With this in mind, we have incorporated the traditional techniques we have cultivated over the years into accessories to make lacquer more accessible to people.

  • I am sorry. I know he put in some work. Not a lot of work, and to be honest, it is not hard work. It maybe meticulous work but, it is not hard work. He is not breaking his back doing it. Actually, he seems quite comfortable while doing this work. He applied some lacquer, polished, and used some paint to design a beetle on a piece of wood that cannot cost more than a couple of dollars to obtain. Great... All fine and dandy, it is his work, he is proud of it as he should be but, and here is the big but, to charge 450 USD for it is borderline absurd. It really is. I don't care how much you believe it is worth it. It simply isn't. Really! It is not. Forgive me for expressing my opinion but, with all due respect, I would not pay that much for it, even if I were Japonese.
