  • Let's take a moment to appreciate that he cut through that plastic without cutting the fabric underneath. That's a very unnoticed skill that probably was the most difficult to master. Although how you put mother-of-pearl on fabric and make it stick and flex is far beyond my comprehension. That's some straight-up magic.

Tonight it was cat vids (I seem to start there since I'm a cat person) to quilting (since I do that) to Sashiko embroidery to this. I knew it was pretty involved and that's why some kimonos are SO expensive. Now I know why. These artisans are amazing.

    • The wonderful thing about the Japanese is their attitude toward any masters...they are held with respect and cared for. Whether silk, pottery, sumi-e, metal works, paper making, all are in the care and support of the Japanese...government and people. If we don't respect our traditions we will become a people with amnesia.

  • This video is absolutely mesmerizing The craftmanship is exquisite and very precise. I have seen a few kimonos in my time but this was absolutely amazing to watch. I did not realize that the fabrics were actually hand painted right from the beginning The attention to detail is amazing and i am sure everything in these designs has a meaning to it a story as such of why the specific flowers and cranes are used in each design. It is stunning. I am sure the price reflects the attention to detail too. but well worth it.
