  • The ultimate aerial fire fighter. No one noticed what it was doing. Take off on land or water, then come back and skim the water to reload, take off, go dump, and do it over again on a not so large body of water. Usefull and impressive.

    • Mark- I'd say many saw it load and discharge tons of water, obviously a jet plane fire fighter AND a flying boat AND an airliner (72 passenger) AND a cargo carrier (probably) ; Russia sure has aeronautical smarts. An ex Moscow air institute employee turned our bolt-down car hoist into a portable, clever man.

  • I have always thought Russia built good aircraft. Some models better than others, just like here. Where I live, we have had the worse fires in local history and the winds did not help. There were so many fires in the Northwest, the resources were thin. Canada sent one or two of their 215/415 water bombers and they are great aircraft. I could see where either the US Forest Service or some of the private contractors who do wildfire service for the government should negotiate and buy or long term lease these Be 200 amphibious jets from Russia. They are fast, can scoop water like the 415 but carry more gallons and can be faster. I wish relations would warm up with the US and Russia and some business could be made here. This isn't for any military application against each other, this for the saving of lives, homes and property. The fires are still going and two or three of these jets could cover the states of Oregon and Washington at this time. From what I have seen so far. This jet gets the trophy. and with these water bomber jets, the fires would be out by now. I admire the Beriev 200

      @crazyivan1015@crazyivan101510 жыл бұрын
    • ***** By all means but in actuality I believe that most aircraft are designed to stay afloat after a water landing.

      @crazyivan1015@crazyivan101510 жыл бұрын
    • TheIrishgamer101 Non-hydroplanes are not designed to stay afloat in water. Not many planes are designed to be watertight or even airtight for that matter. High altitude planes flying where little oxygen is are usually the only airtight planes you'll find out there. Furthermore, planes are generally supplied oxygen via intakes within the engines. If the engines aren't running, oxygen isn't being pumped into the cabin (that's why engines aren't on while it's in water, whether due to damage or the pilots turned off to prevent water from being pumped in). The only reason you see planes floating for a while before sinking is due to the fact a plane is seperated into multiple compartments. For instance, a commercial plane won't have the cabin pressure sharing with it's luggage storage. Basically, you have the time for all chambers to fill up with water to escape a plane that crashed into the sea. Not saying at all to panic and get out of the plane, but I am saying you have a time limit to get out before you're stuck inside. Depending on the damage the plane sustained on impact determines how long you have before it sinks. Also, even if it is an airtight plane, it will still sink. Unless it's a hydroplane, it will not stay afloat as it's not designed too. ***** You can't predict what sort of tension the plane will undergo upon impact within water in unprecedented circumstances. As such, seals will most likely break upon impact, making a watertight plane not so watertight anymore. To even big companies researching and improving safety on plane safety, making it waterproof is simply a waste of money unless you are making a flying tank capable of sustaining impact at upwards to 500-600 mph. A more probable method of achieving safety is finding out reasons why each plane that ever crashed, well, crashed. With that method, they can improve on it, making planes less likely to come across a dire situation, and if it did, it would have backups/procedures to be carried out to prevent the worst case scenario.

    • Obviously they already can. Why do you think the safety instructions are laminated?? Because you can use them as a paddle to row the plane safely ashore in case it has to land in the water.

Maybe replacing them with Bombardier CL-415’s might have been the way to go. Either way, it just tragic that this airline and type of service was lost. It comes down to $$$ but what were the possibilities for future expansion? Miami to Paradise Island might have been upgraded and showcased as what amphib operations could be.
