Бе-200 создан на основе научно-технического задела, полученного при реализации программы противолодочного самолета-амфибии А-40 "Альбатрос". Это позволило получить на новой машине высокие летные и мореходные характеристики при существенно сниженных продолжительности разработки и материальных затратах за счет почти полного исключения экспериментальных работ по гидродинамике и резкого снижения объемов работ по аэродинамике.

    • No inicio da aviação comercial no final dos anos 20 e inicio dos anos 30 não se despunham de muitos aeroportos com capacidade para grandes aviões , portanto naquela época a tendencia da industria aeronáutica era na construção de aviões anfíbios , porém após a segunda guerra essa situação mudou !

  • The Catalina used to be my favourite aircraft type and watching the water bomber firefighting variants would leave me in awe. But nowadays it is totally outclassed by the Beriev BE200 Altair, there is nothing comes close touching it. One totally amazing aircraft that we see all too seldom in the Western world because, I believe, of a bias against Russian equipment.

    • tupolev has the worst record of air crashes in history, disastrous builds, poor quality materials and maintenance; another great example of russian failure is the "russian" version of Concorde; and now even Ucrania has taken down many Su helicopters, and the MIGs are nowhere to be seen in the Ucranian skies either.

    • It's a firefighting aircraft. The jet engines are positioned above the fuselage to prevent water from entering them. There are lots of firefighting aircraft but most are propeller driven.     • Would be very useful for fire fighting. Of course the aircraft would need to be designed solely for that purpose. I would be curious to know what the takeoff weight is. One can then calculate the volume of water that can be carried . 1 Litre of (fresh) water weighs 1Kg

    • Actualmente, los aviones de las aerolíneas pueden flotar en el agua y desplegar dispositivos de salvamento. Siempre que el piloto pueda aterrizarlo de manera segura en el agua, lo que en sí mismo es una gran tarea. Pero dado que la mayoría de los aviones vuelan sobre tierra la mayor parte de su tiempo de tránsito, tener un avión como los de este video no tendría sentido económico para una aerolínea.

    • This model would be perfect for archipelagic nation where most of their land had already occupied for agriculture and housing. All they need to build a water runway like this probably a sea wall or dams extended over an inlet to control water current and tides.
