Frankfurt is home to Lufthansa Airlines, one of the biggest in Europe. Not only can you fly on Lufthansa to visit Germany, but there are many connecting flights and therefore many layovers in Frankfurt.
So what should you do with a long layover in Frankfurt, Germany?
I had something like 15 hours, but even having 8 hours would be plenty of time to get to the center or Frankfurt for some sightseeing, German food and walking around.
First step is to get out of the airport and catch the train into the center of Frankfurt - that can be a little confusing as Frankfurt Airport is kind of confusing. Anyway, navigate your way to the train station at the airport. There you can buy a ticket - I bought a 5 people group ticket for 16.60 EUR. They had other pricing options as well.
Frankfurt (Main) Hauptwache - This is the center of Frankfurt and it took about 15 minutes from the airport.
Römerberg - Just a 10 minute walk from Hauptwache station is Römerberg, the historical center of Frankfurt and a wonderful public square to walk around and do some sightseeing. But we continued walking to find some German food - specifically Frankfurt food.
Gaststätte Atschel - This restaurant specializes in local Frankfurt German food. We ordered a number of dishes including apple wine and Frankfurter sausages with sauerkraut which are delicious and a food you can’t miss. Total price - 47.60 EUR
Köylü-Döner - Just down the road from Gaststätte Atschel is Köylü-Döner, one of the best places in Frankfurt for a Turkish doner kebab which is very popular in Germany and absolutely delicious. Price - 4.90 EUR
The Holy Cross Brewing Society - Finally, just a last minute decision, we had a coffer at The Holy Cross Brewing Society which was wonderful. After coffee we headed back to Frankfurt Airport to catch our flight.
If you have a layover in Frankfurt, Germany, go out and explore and eat some food!

The sauerkraut I ate while in Germany puts American sauerkraut to shame, just like their beer does. Glad you had a long layover.
the Sauerkraut is a totally differnent one...dont know about the beer
@Brian Shut up.... German beer is so much better haha bro
Its not only the Sauerkraut, Sausages, Bread, Beer, Wine, we may not have the best BBQ but the rest is way better!
@Brian Thats just not true, I have family and friends in north america and they only drink imported german beer. The beer is just on a different level and u shouldnt really compare them, every american will tell you the same.
@Brian depends on the mood and taste, in a radius of 50 km we have more around 300 breweries! In my county alone its over 150, in my community its around 5 in 8 villages! Most of them exist for hundreds of years, some since the foundation of the Reinheitsgebot (bavarian purity law)!

Mark, I lived in Frankfurt for a couple years back when I was stationed at Rhein-Main Air Base back around 92-94. I loved it, and made so many friends while I was there. Unlike most military folks, I got off-base as much as possible and made many local friends. It helped that I spoke German, albeit Bavarian that my mother taught me, but it definitely helped me communicate with the local communities. I hope you had a great time there Mark!

For those who don't know Döner Kebap is originated in Berlin by an Turkish Immigrant in the 70s Döner (this version) can't be find in Turkey It is German-Turkish Food
Bullshit. Döner is from Turkey Originally from Bursa ok and Has nothing to do with German food. German food is Knödel, Schnitzel not Döner.

Never less the final Döner bite. It's best of Döner.

Love how positive you are
Mark, I ve been watching your videos for quite some time now (I'm also a huge spicy thai food lover) and was always curious, how you would react to the Frankfurt Cuisine. Nice to see you enjoyed the Grüne Sosse (green sauce). It is also very neat on top of a Schnitzel, but originally served only with boiled eggs and potatoes. People from Frankfurt actually call the "Frankfurter" sausage Wiener (From Vienna), not a big thing here. The real Frankfurter sausage is Rindswurst (beef sausage). Preferably the original brand "Gref Völsing". And most importantly, you've obviousely missed Handkäs mit Musik (a very smelly cheese served with a onion-vinegar-caraway seed vinaigrette and fresh german bread, the "music" refers to the sounds the onions produce after they passed the stomach). Bet you'll love it. I'll show you where to get the best one, next time you need to kill some time in Frankfurt, if you're interested. Keep it up!
I‘d love to see u explore more of germany
