Fixing common power steering leak points on the 1990-1994 Lexus LS 400. I reccommend doing a better job than me if possible.

  • That Idle-Air-Control valve can also leak into the Vacuum lines and enter the engine causing smokey exhaust, But mostly constant loss of power-steering fluid because thousands of PSI steering fluid seeks the vacuum of either of the manifold hoses. After noticing PS fluid loss and finding red fluid in the vacuum lines I (ignorantly) pulled both vacuum lines and plugged off the engine connections, and then (stupidly) bent both IAC lines 180 degrees and Ty-wraped them closed so that I could drive home on the highway... I soon noticed the PS had failed, and I found the lil-rubber IAC lines had BURST from the thousands of hydraulic PSI. Retired the car for a while to get the new IAC Valve in-hand and found out how difficult it was to reach, let-alone replace. I did not want to drain the radiator, nor remove the PS pump, so I replaced my IAC from below by shattering the black plastic IAC body with a long screwdriver, and then Vise-Grips to un-screw it. Then to install the new one I (ordered and) using a "Crow-Foot" 17mm wrench to tighten it back. A-Ok now! Thanks for making this golden video in retrospect because I'm only today watching this video 2 months too late! (1996 LS400 @ 243,000 Mi)

  • My car has that valve too, but my car is V6 Camry, anyway, that valve stops your car from dying every time you turn the steering wheel, when you turn the steering, you are loading the engine, and that valve increases the rpm ever so slightly, so the engine will not stall.
