  • Awesome videos FJ brother! Thanks for taking the time and sharing with everyone!! I finally got one and love it. The issues I had..... Didn't find the steering wheel control harness and had to put that in later- now it works great Was pressing the back button right above the word save to save the steering wheel button programming- works great when you press the word save I had the ribbon connector in backwards so the climate controls didn't work- works great now that I've flipped it I had to shave the top corners of the plastic cave to get it to fit and it still barely fits My unit was missing the clamp on the ribbon connector for the hazard/defroster but amazon is replacing so hopefully the new one will have that Mine came with three USB connectors and only one works to connect data- the one I did not route to the dash box- thinking I'll split that and route one to the driver dash box and one to the cab I have to use the carconnect app to get my android (Samsung s21) to connect at all- still working on getting android auto to work although the screen mirroring and splitting maps and audio might be my go to mode I was able to connect with data wirelessly when I used my phone as a hotspot and turned on car connect on my phone and on the unit- we will see if that is worth the hot spot data cost over time. Have not checked the subwoofer connection yet but hope to get that soon- I have a 2007 and I could barely hear it with the stock radio Also need.to check the headliner speaker- I really don't want to lose that! Your videos were super helpful and prepped me for many of the issues which allowed me to better gauge the time and trials needed to get it right. Thanks again and yes- I'd buy you a beer too! Looks like you have a sleeping platform in the back or is that just for better storage in the back? I found that taking the headrests off, putting the front seats all the way back and putting the sleeping platform over the front seats gives you the whole cab to stretch out in! I learned this when I slept in my car for a week because my wife had the covid :)

  • Nice mods, thank you for posting. I added this same andriod unit in 2018. I went with a black bezel. I use the video front and back feature often. I use the front and rear camera views. Back to watch dirt bikes and camper when hooked up. Front to crawl over rocks is a nice assist yourself approach. I did find problems with it downloading some launcher apps. It hosed up pretty bad and I needed to factory reset. The factory reset is difficult and buried deep , many clicks , to find it. The reset did work fine. Now I am more carefully about which apps I choose. The sound is very good. Not sure what others are talking about, perhaps not connected properly? There is more than one way. Also, the Equilizer app built in works well. I could use a bigger amp other than the factory and plan to upgrade, however, the amp is holding up well in my 2008. You can install apps like Netflix and download videos to view while camping. Connecting to wifi when parked near the house is easily accomplished. One thing to remember - do not expect any tech support from the direct Chinese suppliers. No english at all - not even an effort. They totally ignore your message and provide you info about something completely unrelated to your issue. Simple thing like "How can I Factory Reset" becomes "To connect your cell phone, you need to...." So, if you get one you are on your own. The purpose of their response is an attempt to appease Alibaba responding to you. So they don't get bumped or tagged for not responding or something like that. You can watch the back camera while driving listening to radio or other sources. Not only does it connect to wifi easily, you can wifi to your phone's internet hotspot connection. You can bluetooth your phone without using apple play or android car connection. I use bluetooth direct for books on tape for long drives. My volume controls work fine...however, the touch screen can be cumbersome while driving , the selections to touch need to be larger. Muting is easier than changing volume. I really like this Android upgrade. I use it all the time - one of my best mods.

    @BinhtriVu@BinhtriVu4 жыл бұрын
    • You do not need to connect data to use things like Bluetooth calling, bluetooth audio, radio, and many other apps. If you want to run certain apps - like streaming music, podcasts, youtube, or things that generally require data, then yes, but 99% of the time, I do not connect to my data because I use it like a simple radio / media player. The other option is to buy the Android Auto / Carplay adapter, and plug your phone in, which is a form of "connecting to data" if that makes sense.

  • @LiL13izzy7 Can you do a short video showing the hardware specs? Does it have a slot to expand memory? I'm seeing 2 different models offered online a 32 GB and a 64 GB model.

    @alejandroesquivel1695@alejandroesquivel16954 жыл бұрын
    • The price differences between these head units basically boil down to how big of a hard drive (16 GB, 32 GB, 64 GB), and how much RAM (2 GB, 4 GB). The cheaper ones will have the minimum specs. As a user, I run my music and videos from a USB flash drive that I plug into the stereo, so hard drive space is irrelevant for me. I can't imagine that most people would load over 32 GB of content onto their head unit, unless you're thinking of installing a dash cam or something, in which case a larger hard drive would help. I would suggest going with the head unit with at least 4 GB or RAM, as I've watched other people running Android head units complain about 2 GB being slower - but that's the tradeoff if you need to save a few bucks. As far as hard drive space, I personally would be fine with a 32 GB hard drive because I don't utilize the space. There is no expansion slot for memory as far as I know. Hope that helps.

It's possible you may need to disconnect the OBDII scanner from any other devices that it may already be paired to (your phone, for instance). Maybe it only can connect to one device at a time. @mukhtarhindi3686@mukhtarhindi36862 жыл бұрын
    • No, the factory USB outlet is rendered useless after installing this head unit. Instead, I replaced it with this: AUX / USB Replacement: amzn.to/3wK69F5, which also required an AUX splitter: amzn.to/3dOY0qg in order to use the AUX port. This still retains the "factory look" and function. Hope that helps.

Much like yourself, I don't know enough about stereo installation, so I took it to a professional car audio retailer and paid them to install it. It should be plug in play, but a lot of people have experienced their rear defroster button not functioning. Also, you are going to lose functionality of your OEM USB outlet, so you'll need to replace that (I linked the replacement part as well). Hope that helps.

    @sergiolopez2797@sergiolopez27972 жыл бұрын
    • The screen is integrated in the new faceplate. It's not something I had to buy separately. You need to disconnect the ribbons that connect the old hazard lights / defroster module (and the passenger airbag sensor and key transponder sensor on the right) and plug it into the new faceplate. This leaves the old one obsolete.

    • No issues since I installed it, but many have reported issues with the emergency blinker button, and rear defroster button not working. The face plate does come with the head unit, so you will no longer need the OEM FJ faceplate. If you have a JBL subwoofer, you will need to purchase a separate Canbus wiring harness. Since yours is a 2007 and don't have steering wheel controls, adding those would be helpful. With all that said, this head unit is not easy to find (especially the silver one). The 4 small "buttons" that replace the 4 on either side of the stock stereo (hazard, rear defroster, passenger indicator, and engine immobilizer indicator) also light up at night. I do know that the line is inside the rear view mirror cover, because I've opened it up to troubleshoot the feed when it wouldn't show up. • From my understanding, these units are all the same hardware-wise. It's the insides (hard drive size, Android version, and RAM) that makes one unit different from another price-wise. I avoided buying from China for reasons I mentioned in my video, and I believe Belsee is based in China. Also keeping customer service in mind may sway you one way or another depending on if something goes wrong with your unit, or simply if you want any questions answered. Some vendors are more responsive than others. I have no experience with Belsee, so I can't speak to their service (or shipping speed), but that's ultimately your decision.

Others who've commented here have purchased directly from Belsee with mixed experiences dealing with their customer service support. All Belsee interfaces are the Agama Car Launcher, which is an app that can be purchased for a few bucks, turning the generic head unit into what you deem to be a "Belsee head unit." Also I believe Belsee may be in short supply of the grey faceplate 12.3” unit. • Do they sell the same system for Apple CarPlay?

    @Mac65@Mac653 жыл бұрын
    • You have to think of this head unit kind of like a tablet. Tablets (like PC's) run on operating systems, much in the same way an iPhone or an iPad runs on iOS software. This is basically like having a tablet running Android software in your car. Like all tablets, you can download software and applications. For example, you could download Instagram or Facebook and run it on either an Android or an Apple device. There is no exclusivity between Android and Apple. Hope that makes sense. I can actually run carplay on this Android head unit by running an application and connecting an iPhone using a supplied dongle. I made a video on this, which you can watch here: kzhead.info/sun/fJSbj5SfrpWlmIE/bejne.html. I hope that clears up any confusion. Let me know if you have any further questions!

    • LiL13izzy7 thank you for your reply. It still seems too complicated (for me) to make it all work. And as I watch your video, I found that I don’t like the same things you don’t like. It’s too bad that pioneer or kenwood or alpine do not make this size screen and new face plate.

      @Mac65@Mac653 жыл бұрын
    • @@Mac65 I don't think you'll get nearly the same type of customization with a head unit from a major brand. There's a brand called joying that makes a smaller screen (8 inches) that has a volume knob, and the ability to run a sim card (connect to 4g), that I would consider as an alternative to this one. If I were to do it all over again I may very well have chosen that one. That one at least addresses some of the things I don't like about my head unit and the volume knob alone should not be understated. www.joyingauto.com/2007-2014-toyota-fj-cruiser-8-inch-android-car-head-unit-with-built-in-dsp.html

    • @@LiL13izzy7 First of, thank you for your generosity to take the time to help me. I saw the 8" from Joying but it still takes up too much real estate with the buttons along the edges, although I like the volume knob. The Pioneer 5500NEX uses the entire 8" for video screen, but it is very expensive and sold out as far as I can see. I guess I do not need or want most of the things that you want. I like to keep things simple, so CarPlay seems to do the trick for me. I don't think I need it to have 4g, or memory space etc. But I will study it and think about it - thanks to you!

  • That backup camera is just hot garbage. Have you replaced that yet? Or does anyone have a recommendation for an easy replacement? The radio looks awesome though.

    @JJCage78@JJCage783 жыл бұрын
    • I learned how to drive with no parking aids like a backup camera. I feel like it's fine for me, but I completely understand how it is perceived as hot garbage compared to modern day backup camera systems. When we bought our 2001 RAV4, it had the same camera, and at the time it was cutting edge, and a nice thing to have. I still see it the same way in the FJ: It's nice to have, it does ther job, and I really can't complain, because I'd rather have a visual aid, than parking sensors, or nothing at all. That being said, I don't have any plans to replace it.

      @LiL13izzy7@LiL13izzy73 жыл бұрын
    • Oh so did I. I don't use my back up cam at all. It's just not in a convenient spot and the quality is so poor. However, I have used some 2021 vehicles back up cams and it's pretty much like using a mirror. They are very nice.

    • so you dont like music? Or offline maps? Setting your radio to custom wallpapers? I wouldnt call this useless in areas lacking wifi service by a longshot. Being able to load 64g of music onto this player, in addition to the sick looking upgraded look is worth every penny, completely irrelevant to if you go off-roading or not. I know for me, offroading into remote areas I get lost so friggin easy, the offline maps have saved me in the woods, as well as in the city many, many times.
