LBC callers react as the Rwanda Bill finally passes
The Rwanda Bill will become law in a major victory for Rishi Sunak after being passed by the House of Lords, with no further amendments on Monday evening.
Nick Ferrari's callers respond.
00:00 - Barbara in Havant calls this 'a day of shame for this country', and woke up feeling 'sick and sad' at the news
03:17 - Richard in Crowborough disagrees with Barbara and believes the bill will be a 'deterrent' to migrants
04:21 - Katherine in Muswell Hill debates with Nick on why the bill is going ahead despite the legal opposition it has previously received
07:31 - George in Hendon believes Britain should ignore the ECHR and follow the example of Australia, that has 'stopped the boats'
08:36 - Rob in Enfield is 'dead against the bill', adding there is no guarantee that asylum seekers will not be returned to the place they sought refuge from.

0:00 absolutely right. The UK Government in breach International Law as found to be doing so by a Parliamentary report. The Supreme Court and both ECHR / UNHRC (UK are founding members) all said so. The UK is a signatory of the 1951 Refugee Convention which clearly states that refugees have the right not to be penalised for being in or entering a country without permission where this is necessary for them to seek and receive asylum. The Convention provides an international definition of the world ‘refugee’, which is a person in another country at risk of persecution in her, his or their own country. It sets out certain basic rights of refugees that are necessary for the enjoyment of asylum. These include the right not to be returned to a place where they are at risk of persecution.
It's the plan that hardly anyone likes. Even if you want to stop the boats, this scheme is extremely expensive, and the people who'll get sent there will just be replaced by refugees in Rwanda.

The Lords have not 'agreed that Rwanda is a safe country'. They only have limited opportunities to reject a bill. Those opportunities have run out. Rwanda is still unsafe. The bill still breaches international treaties. No airline will take the people in question. Rwanda have no obligation to check anyone's claim. The Rwandan government have taken our money, built houses with it, then sold those houses to Rwandans, improving their own popularity. The UK government could have spent the £490million on homes in the UK, but won't. The Rwandan government took our government for mugs.

United nation isn’t a independent organization. The fact that they have a security console that can literally one country can veto a resolution that the majority wants and Britain is a part of the security council a permanent member I might add. People from Rwanda is saying Rwanda isn’t safe right now as we speak. People from Rwanda are seeking asylum from Britain and getting them. Mr. Ferrari can say that because the United Nations have been sending people to that that makes it safe is asinine and ridiculous when people are saying it is not safe and they have been fleeing that country by the hundreds.
Fiddler Ferrari is the only person should be sent to Rwanda. Congolese refugees have been shot for protesting about food rations in Rwanda. It is not a safe country as decreed by the UK Supreme Court.
The UN sends refugees from war zones to Rwanda temporarily and then relocate them to a safe country mostly in the global North. This makes sense. However removing a refugee from Britain to Rwanda is not anywhere in benefit of the individual’s safety but it’s a political instrument. Nick is a tool.

another point nick, 6million pounds spread between 50,000 asylum seekers per day in hotels is a lot cheaper than spending 1.8million pounds per asylum seeker sent to Rwanda. not to mention the refugees we take from Rwanda will also cost the taxpayer. should this plan not actually stop the boats (which it obviously wont) Rwanda will essentially be just another huge cost on top of what we're already paying. We would have to send an average of 80-100 people per day to Rwanda as to actually reduce the spending on hotels. and now Rwanda only has space for 250 people per year, due to selling off the properties built (and paid for by the UK taxpayer) to private citizens.
