Let’s talk about the most important nutrient to support a healthy prostate.
An enlarged prostate can affect urination and libido. The more the prostate enlarges, the higher your risk is for prostate cancer. But, just because the prostate enlarges doesn’t mean you have cancer.
There is a powerful form of testosterone in the body called DHT. Testosterone can convert to DHT with a specific enzyme. Certain medications inhibit this enzyme to reduce DHT and help with male pattern baldness, prostate hypertrophy, and erectile dysfunction. But, zinc is actually a natural inhibitor of this enzyme.
Zinc is the most important nutrient to support a high testosterone level, sperm fertility, and a healthy prostate.
A zinc deficiency could lead to an enlarged prostate gland, inflammation of the prostate gland, and an increased risk of prostate cancer. A zinc deficiency can also affect your libido, testosterone, sperm count, and urine flow.
Causes of a zinc deficiency:
• Not consuming enough red meat
• Low stomach acid
• Certain medications (antacids, diuretics, statins)
• Alcohol
• Sugar consumption
• Frequent meals
Foods high in zinc:
1. Shellfish
2. Red meat
You could also take a zinc supplement. I have a great product called Trace Minerals Enhanced, that’s loaded with zinc and the other trace minerals you need.
However, zinc alone will not act as a cure for an enlarged prostate or other medical conditions because there are many other factors involved. One of these factors is your diet. To learn more about the diet you should be on, check out my videos on Healthy Keto and intermittent fasting.

One was at times I could not hold back the urination and often a few drops wet the unddies on the way (of running) to the toilet. The other would do the opposite, which is not being able to urinate once I sit down. After increasing Zinc I am back to the way I was in my 20's. I mean completely back to normal... Really thank you for mentioning that the problem is not necessarily too little zinc intake but is usually carbs or alcohol, etc. interfering with intake of zinc.
There is a lot to this statement. Having junk in one's system preventing absorbtion. Stop the junk, zinc levels increase with a clean diet. On a tangent, there are combination of minerals/vitamins that need to be taken together. Vitamin D supplement should be taken with a meal that has some fat in it ( avocado, butter , bacon, etc ). Iron absorption is aided by vitamin C. Antiinflammatory Tumeric is absorbed better with a little black pepper.

Hi, I'm 65 years old and have had BPH for more than 10 years. My doctor is keen for me to have surgery, but I'm not. I saw your video 6 days ago, the next day I purchased a zinc supplement, taking 60mg each night before bed. 2 days after starting I noticed the urgency to urinate had gone and I only had to urinate 3 times a night instead of my usual 6 or more. 4 days after starting zinc I slept through the night; I haven't been able to do that for years! I have found my urinary flow has greatly improved and I'm not experiencing interrupted flow any longer. I'm amazed at the result, but I'm more amazed by the speed of the change. Thanks doctor, you have given me my life back.
Wow, it was really that fast? That's incredible! Has it lasted since you posted this commented?
@@rogerdavidson6236 Yes it really was that fast, the form of zinc I was using was "Zinc citrate dihydrate" 2x 30mg tablets. I was using the "Caruso's" brand, but I believe the form not the brand is important. After a few weeks I had used all the tablets in the bottle and my wife purchased another brand as "Zinc glycinate" and my dosage was 2x40mg. I found that over a week or so the symptoms came back, I went back to chemist and repurchased the original tablets and a few days later the symptoms started to subside again. I'm still not certain my dosage is correct and intend to try to optimise the dosage over the next few months as the symptoms are greatly reduced but not completely gone. The urgency to urinate is once again completely gone however. I hope this helps. Mike

I'm in my mid 50's and read about the importance of zinc for prostate, during the 90's, from one of Taoist practitioner Daniel Reid's books. I highly recommend his work. He also gave an interesting statistic regarding consumption of lamb (the other red meat) and lower instances of prostate issues in the Mediterranean region where it is highly consumed. Turns out that Lamb... is high in zinc. But a much better alternative to beef. Bingo.

A little over a month ago I watched your video on foods to eat to reduce or shrink the prostate. I had blood work done and my PSA was 4.16, so the urologist said come back in 30 days for more blood work. After that visit and watching your video, I made sure I added these foods to my diet. I had my 30 check up yesterday and my PSA was 4.15. I told the doctor I was working on shrinking my prostate with my diet. He rolled his eyes and said, what a waste of time. He more than once said that my numbers are not that high, he wanted to schedule me for an MRI, I said, since my numbers are not that bad, give a year and let me continue working on my diet. "OH NO", was his reply. So now I have to go back in 3 months, I can tell he already annoyed with me because I will apparently be seeing a different person when I return. I will spend the next 3 months shoving everything down my throat that shrinks a prostate, (except oysters, I can't do that). I am always amazed at how little a doctor will work with you at trying to improve your health. If something is broken, go to the doctor to get it fixed, if you want to learn how to live a healthy lifestyle, watch KZhead!

For us older men, this is probably one of the most important videos to watch. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told to stop eating red meat, go on a plant based diet (which I did for awhile and felt terrible while on it) and, the most aggravating advice from my primary care physician to go on a statin drug. I said no to all of that, and along comes this video to confirm my suspicions. I really appreciate this video, Dr Berg. Thank you so very much.
Same here, for every one of your points. I got recommendations for plant diets and statins from my local doctors. I could not tolerate statins, strong side effects. Absolutely informative and that I wanted to know. Thank you very much, Dr. Berg. From Japan.
Great video Dr berg .👍🏻
Lovely video! I'm 54 and had prostate issues, but I haven't treated them with medicine or diet... I've found that meditation 2x day makes most of my physical issues disappear. Just wanted to add this to any of those that are seeking additional information. I believe it's not just about what you put inside, but also how you go about your life. In the end, we are responsible for what happens to us
Focusing on the sensations around that area does indeed diminish most, if not all the pain or tension gathered there.
YES!!!!!
For sure …
Interesting.
I have chronic prostatitis and it has been a debilitating part of my life, I also have BPH. I started doing a lot of research on ways to relieve myself of the pain and found it about 5 months ago. Yoga, deep breathing, and pelvic stretching exercises. It took a few weeks and it disappeared by about 95%. I have now incorporated full-body stretching and weight lifting with yoga and my health has improved exponentially. I am going to check into the zinc thing and see if that works for me.
Thanks so much. You have the gift of communicating your ideas very clearly and very easily to understand. Congratulations. Also, we must be thankful because you are helping the world with your gift.
Great information Doc ! Thanks 👍🏽
Wonderful video thank you just ordered a Zinc supplement. I have non of the symptoms you describe but it can't hurt. Thank you Dr.
