The Men Who Made the Game is a series which endeavours to tell all about the lives of the many individuals who played a key role in the development of the game of football which we all know.
In this episode I look at Valeriy Lobanovskyi, one of the U.S.S.R.'s most successful managers of all time. With his coaching career lasting 33 years across Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, Dynamo Kyiv, and the U.S.S.R. National Team, Lobanovskyi won a host of honours including 8 Soviet Titles, 6 Soviet Cups, and 2 European Cup Winners' Cups. His untimely death in 2002 came after decades of influence, which can be seen in every team which adapts a high pressing game.
Great coach. His last Kiev team and their quick transitions made me fall in love with football. Massively underrated. Really wished they’d won the champions league in the late 90s.
Should\could have won it in 87 as well, easily the best team in Europe 86-87.
Great analysis. Really interesting, its a shame his legacy isn’t as well known across Europe.
Lobanovskiy great Ukrainian coach and teacher of European football.
Correction: Great SOVIET or in terms of true history RUSSIAN coach (from russian region of Malorossia which was included into Ukranian socialist republic as a gift in 1922)
Lobanovsky was a great man, as a person and pioneer. His diploma in Kiev Polytechnic university was devoted to physics, major in high temperature physics. He had created three great teams Dynamo Kiev 76, 86, 97. National SU teams based on DK players. I whish we could call those teams great by achievements, unfortunately they haven't won WC, EC, CC, although were able to do it.
As a Soviet kid in the 80s I’m still sore about the Belgium game at the 86 WC. Only FIFA would put linesmen from the US in a game with the Soviet team. That team deserved better. They played Platini’s France to a draw and demolished Hungary and Canada. 88 Euros was another heartbreak. That insane Van Basten goal I’ll never forget
Lobanovsky graduated politechnical institute and this fact influenced his football model.
Lo recuerdo con la seleccion de la URSS un gran tecnico un gran maestro
Videos like this are awesome. Congrats. We need more of it !
We had in Poland the same greatest coach- Kazimierz Górski
Great vid. His teams played Klopp ball long before Klopp.
Should had arrive to that 1999 cl final. That bayern game at home......
Father of "gegenpressing" ^_^
Forgotten pioneer is right! Any links to any good sources to read up on Lobanovskiy? Great video btw!
Other than his Wikipedia page I found Jonathan Wilson's book 'Behind the Curtain' gave a real insight to his career and provided a real context to the football he was playing at the time.
This video should have more views. Keep up with the good work
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Einer größten Trainer aller Zeiten, der allerdings zu wenig Anerkennung erhalten hat international
Graìt trainers.
Is he klopp's inspiration? I know sacchi played important role in his development but this man's ideas are somewhat similar to what Klopp is now doing at liverpool
Proxy-inspiration.. He inspired Rangnick, which in turns, inspired Klopp..
💪💜💛
1:26 is that Brazilian Ronaldo as a kid?
👍
