  • I can't really make a comparison here. I mainly do metal work and have both a 6"and 8" bench grinder. The 6" has wire wheels on both ends while the 8" has stones. Several years ago, I bought the Buck Tool 4"x36" belt, 8" disc sander (#4801). I use it for both shaping and smoothing metal with anywhere from 40-120 grit discs and belts, depending on what I'm doing. When I do work with wood, I have a Craftsman belt/disc sander that I absolutely hate to use! It was broken when it came out of the box but, it was one of those "store closing" deals and it wasn't returnable. I've been able to make it work when necessary but, as I do more and more with wood, I've been looking at other options. The Bauer looks interesting and, I'll be checking into it.

  • A company like Vevor could learn a thing or two from watching this. Like maybe we don’t need to cut every corner and make it as undesirable as possible (but cheap!). Companies like Bucktool and even Bauer are able to keep costs low but still include a bunch of little things that make me much more likely to buy their products. For $17 more you get like twice the machine in that Bauer over the Vevor.

  • This style is what most people should buy instead of a regular grinder. They are basically very light duty belt grinders and are far more useful than a grinder. I rarely use my grinder and would replace it with one of the Bauer ones. Once you use a real 3hp belt grinder you are spoiled and will always want one. The Bucktool is not a knife making belt grinder it is a sharpening belt grinder. You need at least 2hp for knife making.

  • IMO, these machines are primarily for metal working. In metal working 2 very frequent tasks are grinding, and deburring...in fact deburring almost always follows grinding. This belt sander isn't really meant for heavy shaping...It's meant for putting a chamfer on that bolt you just ground some threads off...knocking the burr off the sheet metal you just had to grind....

  • What is with the pliers om the grinding wheel?????? I must be missing something here. Love to see you grind somthing like a 1/4" HSS threading tool. (BTW, It takes a AWFUL lot of grinder to make up for the proper grinding wheel)

  • What do you think of the dewalt 8in grinder

    @spikesforge9000@spikesforge9000 Жыл бұрын
    • It's a solid, single speed grinder. Sells for about $150. For a few bucks more you can get the dual speed Bucktool or if you move fast you can get a great deal on the Hercules variable speed grinder. It's identical to the shopfox and it's being replaced with a new model so it's on clearance. I have to admit I have a bit of a preference for variable speed grinders.

  • Why didn’t you use the sanding belts that came with each machine? It looks like you used aluminum oxide belts which are like one of the lowest grade abrasive belts. The bucktool comes with 3-5 zirconia sanding belts which is a testament to the quality of the machine. It came with a higher quality belt but you tested it with the same low quality abrasives that the budget machines came with ? Idk this test didn’t make any sense to me but that’s just my opinion.
