Another tip I like to use is to jack up the wheel you're spraying so you can spin it while spraying. Makes it easier
Do it. I was skeptical. 6 months. 5 coats. Still look great. NC.
Made it look easier than I expected! I will definitely do this now. Thanks again.
I always Remove the wheels for Painting or Dipping, because that way you can get all the spokes and the complete area of the wheel without moving the car. Also so you don't Spray the lugnuts or the Center cap, and so you don't have to worry about over spray on the Suspension, inner fender and the fender, but whatever works best for you. As Always Great Work Fonzie. Thanks for the Great Tutorial.
that is what I was curious about - how do you prevent the overspray on your car? i'm thinking of doing this, but would want to remove the wheels first
@@tlsmith1970 You can mask everything off, but it's a lot more work instead of just removing the wheels.
For wheel face dipping leaving the wheels on is the easiest and safest(not everyone can remove wheels and torque them back down correctly or feel comfortable doing so) way to get it done. Spraying barrels yes, you have to remove the wheels. As far as dip overspray you don't really get any overspray on the suspension when using aerosol cans along with the brake masking bags and even if you had a small amount of overspray it wipes right off . With paint that's a different story. With dip aerosols you have control of where the product goes. Even if you overspray on the fender or fender liner the dip wipes right off with a microfiber towel. If there's any worry shove some paper in the wheel well and a piece of tape on the edge of the fender.
Such excellent information, results, and videos in general, respect and blessings from an old Kiwi 😎🇳🇿😎🙏
Excellent work panzi👌
really good guide
Back to basics, cool!
That was very informative. Thank you 👍👍👍👍
I kept trying to think of a good name for this very intense shifting color combo. From a straight on approach I can't help but think Arizona sunset but from the side I see northern lights so all in all it's on big NET PLUS ULTRA or Calamity. Either way this is a five all the way guys what great content!!!!
Respect sir from England
If you dip wheels including lug nuts, will it come off during tire rotations or any sort of lug nut removal?
Great video! Just Hyperdipped my 2019 Silverado OEM 18" wheels yesterday with Brass Monkey. Came out great, two small imperfections but only I'll notice. I feel that maybe a 6th can would have been perfect. I removed the wheels to make it easier for me plus it allowed me to add dip release inside the rim since I didn't want overspray there. After applying dip release to my all terrain tires, there was still plenty of dip release to coat the inside of the wheels. I couldn't find anywhere on the website about time between coats, but at about 5 min of spraying per rim it worked out to about 20-25 min between coats. Spray handle is a must hahaha!!
Be careful adding Dip Release to the wheel itself you can have an edge start lifting due to this. Dip Release is meant for tires. If you want the barrels to not be sprayed you will want to either mask them off or use some naphtha and a microfiber towel after the wheels are dipped to remove any overspray.
I am hopeless with spray cans and probably brushes that's why I found this so interesting, perfect.
I’d like to see more rim videos. Try all kinds of different colors and all that.
I've been commenting this for a while! Also see if he can do some interior accents to match the wheels or car color!
@@markm5119 that’s a great idea
Great video!!!can I do this in my new sienna..it has plastic hubcaps that are factory glued on?
great video. just finished my emblem kit. Question: what is the procedure for doing all 4 wheels at the same time?
Your spray can game is unreal
My kit comes tomorrow, perfect!
How did they turn out?
Yeah, how did it ?
@@oseifraser5407 I did mine bro. Best decision ever. I ended up doing my rims, all the emblems and the roof on my car with 1 kit
Need to order my kit asap
Respect from Wales
Maybe I missed it but are you supposed to wait in between coats? If so how long do you wait in between the four tack coats? How long are you supposed to wait between the wet coats?
Tack coats flash quickly, 4-5 mins between each. Then for wet coats it depends on your ambient temps, but usually 15-25 mins on average. The colder it is, the longer the coats take to dry.
@@dipyourcar Is it okay if we waited longer in between coats? Like if we do one wheel then go to the next for all 4 then go back to the first one?
What color is that on the car? Love the shifting greens and touch of blue!
That was cool 😎
Love from Bangladesh 🇧🇩
I was just thinking we need a new wheel tutorial
Agree, this is a bit overdue.
Any tips on a bare wheel? No tires or any primer on the wheel. Getting mine media blasted to start from scratch and want to play around with different colors.
@@sweetdees86 Would suggest getting the tires on the wheels first before you spray them (unless you just want to test first). Bare wheel should be just fine, but keep in mind it may be tougher to peel the dip off as the bare wheel will likely grab a bit more.
Is the finish coats thin enough to not effect your wheel nuts?
I would really like to see a removal video where you take the dip off a car you have sprayed. That would be really interesting.
Yes p PLEASE
There's a few out there
Spectacular "!!!
How long does it take to fully cure (/before driving the vehicle)?
Could you guys do ZTH with racing stripes in the future? A black base, white stripes and ZTH on top of everything?
Is back masking the wheels a bad/ or safe idea to keep all over spray out?
Can I spray 1st 2layer with plasti dip and last 4 Layer with hyperdip?
Any thoughts on a wheelchair kit?
What colorshift is on the car, I wanna use that on my 2006 zx10r,
doesnt the paint stick in the bolts? making hard to take the wheel out if necessary?
Fonzi How long after the wheels are painted/Dipped can I use the Dip Protection ?
Nice❤
i had some issues with dust of spray on the car cause it wasn´t covered. Maybe you can put a car cover over the car and open the wheels only.
11:06 can hyperdip be used to correct curb rash on the wheels?
I just wish you sold the same kits on the Canada site
Can you show us how to do stripes ?
Can you hyper dip the plastic portion below your bumber? Will it last the same as when you hyper dip a wheel?
Will ti work over chrome?
How much time between coats?
Do you recommend leaving the lug nuts on? Doesn’t the dip come off them once you rotate or change the tires?
I'm curious about this as well
How long do you wait between tact and wet coats?
Hey Fonzie, is it fine to dip your wheels, that are already Ceramic coated?
Does one wheel kit do all wheels in the car? Lmk bc if they do i'll buy
when you apply the dip-release do you need to make sureto get it right next to the wheel? - and then use the pre-dip cleaner to remove it from the wheel edge? isn't it nearly impossible to get that line perfect? so which is more important, having the dip-release REMAIN RIGHT next to the wheel? or making sure the wheel is 100% clear of dip-release?
Should we mask the valve stem?
What about the valve stem. Do you put the release spray on that or do you just try and avoid spraying it?
You can mask it, leave it or peel it - personal preference
Can you use these same hyperdip dip on emblem and wheels?
Longest shipping of all time. Order sat in fla for 4 days before they shipped. Hope product meets expectations?
that looks like ihave to train my fingers witha cable machine in the gym first for all the pressing of the spray can nozzle 😂😂
Can you paint just segments of the rim?
Just bought my first kit. How much time should pass between tack coats and wet coats?
Crazy how he doesn't explain the time between each coat. LOL
Hammer 😍
I'd like to see Fonzy do a two tone wheel, leaving the factory color on the lip and barrel, and a hyperdip color on the spokes for a custom look! C'mon Fonzy, show is a two tone! 🙏
I want a kit in fusion pink!!
My wife and I love the color. We would rate it a 5 for the color.
Would it hold up going through a car wash?
Can you please do an updated video of spraying a whole car as well
Yes! Later this year
How long should I wait between coats?
How long between tac coats should i wait?
Do you guys if it would hold up in the front bumper, chips and rocks etc??
Set of four 18 inch wheels and I was only able to get 4 tack coats and 3 wet coats out of the wheel kit. I mean it looks great but idk how you got that many coats with just 5 cans. I only have 5 spokes on my rims so not nearly as many as you had in this video I just don’t get how you got that many coats.
Love the shift, BIG fan of purple but don’t particularly like it on this car. 4/5
Can you pressure wash the wheels??
How long you have to wait for each coat?
One day 😊
The ambient temperature in Saudi Arabia can arrive up to 55 degrees C can i use Plastic Dip to paint my car
How long does this last?
Could you please explain a bit more why to not lay the wheel flat?
The pickup tube in the aerosol can can catch an air bubble and cause the cans to spit. Keep the can upright to avoid this.
What color is this
Do you recommend masking off / using dip release on the centre cap, wheel nuts and valve stem? or just pealing off the dip?
Peeling is always the cleaner option when possible.
@@dipyourcar I was also wondering about how y'all handled the lugs and valve stem.
I am confused about how to split 5 cans into 4 wheels when for plasti Dip you say to use a whole can per wheel. Please help.
Good one Fonzie, also can we get a new "how to dip a pickup truck video?
We have a couple of those on the channel already!
What color is on that car
Y’all ever done a semi?
What is the workaround for getting the dip on your lug nuts it changes the diameter and makes it difficult to take them off if you have to service the tire or say the brakes.
Take the rire off before you spray
Hello, I was wondering if you could provide me an email so I can send you some pictures of the paint. I did a chrome delete on my window trim and had most of it peel off no problem, however when it came to the quarter panel it will not come off. I was wondering if you have a solution to this. I used every paint remover including yours.
Please, PLEASE, do ZBB over a lighter base like blue or grey! PLEASE!!!
2 steps not mentioned!!! Masking off the rest of the surface area around the wheel well and putting the cans in warm water to prep the paint. If you don't warm up the cans, the paint becomes too cool from releasing pressure causing splatter affects. I plastic dipped my rims and keeping the cans warm helped out, because I noticed how the paint wants to kinds spit out when the can becomes cool.
2 steps not mentioned because they are not necessary. You don't need to mask the surface area around the wheel unless for some reason your overspray reaches outside of the tire (shouldn't ever happen unless you're spraying in wind.) HyperDip does not need to be warmed in water, that only applies to the old Plasti Dip product. HyperDip is much lower viscosity and flows out just fine in ambient temps.
Can you use a presser washer on these when cleaning your car?
Yes, but of course need to use common sense along with it. Don't bring it too close, as a pressure washer can even damage OEM wheel finishes
When you say, hyper dip Do you mean paint?😂
Enjoyed watching another How-To vid. It's been a wheel since we saw one. (See what I did there?)
How is it going through a car wash?
Ok I see that you had Chrome steal wheels will this kit work on aluminum rims
Yes it will
Also seen people use playing cards to block the tires.
i. have. to. do. this. 🤩
why can't you lay them flat to spray?
What is recommended to do a job like this if a garage for your vehicle it’s not an option? Car parked outside for example.
People dip wheels outside all the time. I wouldn't recommend for whole cars, but wheels no problem.
What color is on that car?
What about masking the body of the car to keep the overspray off it?
Your overspray should never reach outside of the tire, unless you're spraying outside in the wind.
Thank you for this. Would you please do a window trim video. Showing the tips and tricks on how to properly mask, spray and when to remove the tape and drape etc. I tried it and it was a disaster. Thanks.
Window trim tutorials are more difficult as every vehicle may have completely different window trim, seals, etc. It's hard to make a tutorial on that subject that is helpful and relevant to all users.
My window trim can all be removed. Might be safest to do that.
Can you do bronz gold
Process is exactly the same for Bronze Gold (and all HyperDip colors). I'll try to sneak Bronze Gold onto a shop car's wheels here soon
My BMW had dipped wheels when I bought it and that stuff is chipping off and looks so bad how do I take it off all the way without damaging the rims?
Sounds like someone either used far too little dip, making a thin and brittle coating. That or it's not even genuine dip. Dip Dissolver and a pressure washer should make quick work of it if it is actually dip.
Save your money and get your wheels powder coated. I picked up piano black and spent most of a saturday afternoon to blackout my wheels. Finished look was pretty great honestly, especially at a distance. Was going to buy the grill/trim kit but after only 3 months, a large area of the dip has lifted off on one of the wheels, and the lugnuts on another wheel have had the dip come off. "Customer Service" has not replied to 3 communications over the course of a week and change. Not great.
Has anyone else gotten dripping/leaking cans? Is there a trick to it, or just manufacturer defects?
