Subaru Is Top Ranking. The 600 Dislikes are all from Mazda Company Officials. Great Video
Haaaahaaaa 😂 Mazda... needs some pulling ropes
600 people have their own "SUV" which can't get them out of the snow or any rough spot.
Many of the Mazda are rusted and stil recommended ?!?!
Я думаю, что Форестер -это самый универсальный автомобиль в мире! Боже! Храни мой Форестер!))
No, the dislikes are from the rest of us following behind a damn Subaru driving 10 under the limit. Every one of you turds drives SO DAMN SLOW… every where you go… figure it out!
Just bought myself a 2021 Forester after years of thinking I wanted a Crosstrek. Here we go, adventures!
how is it after 3 weeks?
Same for me. I went in to buy a crosstrek and went home with this beauty. I LOVE my car so much
I just got a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek and absolutely love it I love the safety and security of it
Me too!
@@yucesoyss I've had mine for 2 months and definitely still one of the best cars I've ever owned. Still a fantastic ride
Straight up. Went & bought one after this review. No regrets.
You'll regret the CVT transmission in short time.
Kirwan Kars I love the CVT & Subaru make the best one on the market even better then Honda’s.
They don't make the transmissions. CVTs are ALL garbage.
Kirwan Kars I know. It’s made by a company in the UK. Mate, I knew you were just an anti CVT person when you first commented, I was just being nice by responding. I did heaps of research & what I found was the anti-CVT crowd are most that way due to aesthetics. Mechanically speaking they are unique yes, but the hysteria about them is basically bullshit. It’s fine, I’m fine. Thanks for your concern.
Don’t worry, Subaru extended the CVT warranty because they know.
give it an 'XT' option. Bring the turbo Forester back
The XT and manual Subarus have 50/50 split right?
I love my 2018 forester XT with xmode
yes! where is XT?
@@kirwankars8597 Yes, manual transmission Subarus distribute power 50% front / 50% rear.
Absolutely agree. The 2.0 engine without turbo is not enough power
I went from a 16 WRX Limited to a 20 Forester Touring. I have owned the Forester for 8 months and absolutely love it. Its super comfortable and I don't mind the power difference because of it. A simple part like an auto start/stop eliminator will fix any nuisances with owning it. I highly recommend it.
I am in a similar situation as you. Had a 17 WRx prem and traded for a 2022 forester Touring. I have to say I do sometimes miss the power from the WRX though, but the forester is definitely more practical for my lifestyle now.
A wolf in sheep's clothing when it comes to off roading. Foresters are awesome.
Just bought a 2020 Forester - we LOVE it. This video is truly amazing. Nice work, sir.
We love the adaptive cruise control. Makes long drives much easier, low stress and safer. Just lock on to a car doing a reasonable speed and let them drive for you. It will hold a safe following distance - and it brakes before you even notice the cars in front are slowing quickly
I agree! I purchased a 2021 Outback Onyx XT and the adaptive cruise control is great, especially for long distance interstate driving. What I love about it is that you can change your following distance (relative to your speed) with the push of a button. I usually have it a couple extra car lengths back just for safety's sake.
I now tend to commute to work with minimal pedaling. I just use the cruise, change the speed increments, and just let Forester do the rest. I find it more fuel efficient too. Unless I run into red lights or speed bumps as the first vehicle, I can get by without touching the accelerator or brakes.
The adaptive thing drove my husband crazy. He made me figure out how to disable!
Exactly the Forester review I've been waiting for. Appreciate the great content, thank you!
Turning off traction control on older forester models when in X-Mode worked just as well as the new X-Mode Mud and Snow. Just a tip for the older forester model drivers.
That's a great tip. Was wondering about that for my '18
I feel like that is the same thing as the second mode of the new X-mode.
Yeah in my Legacy GT you can just turn off traction control which does the same thing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Theres a saying for us STI owners, "when in doubt, throttle out" or that's just me n my STI. I also own a 09 fxt and same thing floor it with TC off.
You don't want to turn off the traction control in the snow. You want to turn it off in mud and in sand. In deep snow, turning off the traction control will simply make your spinning tires turn the snow under them into ice (by compacting the snow under them), causing you to get stuck even worse. If you lived in a snowy area, you'd know. Snow/ice conditions require gentle starts with maximum traction and little torque.
One of best videos about Subaru Forester 2019 X-Mode, I suppose! Have it and like it very much from December, 2018.
Thank you for such a great explanation and demonstration of the X-Mode system! I bought a 2019 Subaru Forester back in the spring, and with New England winter weather fast approaching, I wanted to be sure I understood how to best utilize this feature. I watched a couple of other videos which were okay, but yours really made it clear! I feel much more confident about it now.
Thanks for this video. My 2019 is my third Forester and the best yet (2009 & 2014 previously). Improved fuel economy and better road manners than before. I do go off-road a bit and appreciate that ability, but really, 99% of the time is on pavement at legal speeds. And there's enough HP for that. I wouldn't trade fuel economy for more power.
Bingo. It's perfect.
so you would recommend keeping with the forester line when my 240k mile 03 finally starts to have issues?
Me neither.
You're giving your age away.
3 years ago got my first Subaru (Forester) and feel in love with it. I love snowboarding and we traveled a lot together for this purpose! Now it’s time to upgrade and waiting for my Forester 2019. Can’t wait to try it. Thank you for this very interesting video
I'm a Subaru Outback user in Japan. I was very impressed with your video‼️ X-MODE is excellent‼️
Do you have snow in Japan?
After watching countless videos (& also test driving) different makes and models, I have watched all of your videos on the Subaru Forester. I test drove one and fell in love with it. I am now driving a 2021 Forester Sport. What an amazing vehicle. I am in love. Thank you for all your thorough videos on the new Forester. These videos convinced me, and I have zero regrets. Fantastic reviewer.
Skid plates to protect the oil pan and differentials plus all-terrain tires or winter tires would complete this Forester.
They are available from the dealer
I believe the STI has the differential. So why not just use it in the other models
All subarus have differentials 3 to be exact just the STI has control of the center diff.
@Bill H there were no OEM skid plates on the 2014 Foresters.
@@wanglee21 he's talking about skid plates that protect the differential, not the differential itself. It has a differential already.
Just purchased one of these after trading in a 2016 Crosstrek. This is my first automatic, but I'm cautiously optimistic. This review was one of the things that convinced me. Thanks.
Based on all the great reviews you've shown, I bought a 2019 Forester Touring last August. I love it! I was hoping for snow to test the X mode, but only got a tiny bit in the Philly area last winter. Can't wait until this winter!
That's amazing that extra setting for mud and snow is amazing I have an old 2003 outback and it goes places people can't believe and it has to do with the all-wheel drive even on regular tires it's just insane I really like this version of the Forester
I finally know the applications to use Dual X-Mode! This will be my first winter with my 19 Sport and this video cleared up all the questions I had on when/how to use X-Mode! Also, very impressive!
This is my car and I'm in LOVE with it. I agree it could use a tad bit more horsepower though.
I have a 2020 Forester Sport, and still loving it so far since getting it in June. I had a 2015 that didn't have X-mode, which is one of the reasons I wanted to upgrade.
Yes maybe 50 more
Have you had any problems with it? I really want this😍
Thank you for this in-depth review. We just bought the 2020 Forester Sport, and seeing this video pretty much sold me on it.
That was about the best explanation of X-Mode that I’ve heard. Nice job!
Good review. It’s all about the tyres though folks. A good set of winter tyres will make a HUGE difference to the performance on snow and mud.
Finally, an actual review about snow traction. I went through numerous videos where snow performance is not even mentioned once.
Great video reviewing the Forester. Because of your excellent real world test I will be buying one. Thank you again and keep up the good work.
We've only had our 2022 Forester Premium for a week. But, love it! We live in central Texas near Austin. So, we don't get the snow. But, we do see a snow/ice storm about once a year. The car has a very comfortable ride with an excellent turning radius. I can't wait to take it on one of our trips and possibly get into some off road/weather conditions. The only thing I would have wanted, would be more horsepower. I traded in a 2005 Saturn Vue with front wheel drive and a 250 hp Honda engine. Excellent car. With that said, my wife and I did a lot research on SUV's especially Subaru...and here we are.
I currently have a 2016 Outback 3.6R, and I love it! When I finally decide to get a new car, the Forester will have likely continued on its path of evolution to become even better than it is now. Hopefully, that evolution will include MORE horsepower in an efficient drivetrain package. When that ‘new car need’ arrives, I will be all over it!!
I have a 2020 Subaru Forester Sport and love it. It’s my first Subaru and I am extremely happy with it. I have not used the XMode in snow yet but it works great on knarly old mountain roads. Cheers!
Just got a Forester Sport yesterday. I'm in sunny LA so it looks like I'm gonna have to find some snow to for this test! Love the video! Love my new Sport!
Great video! I just bought a 2021 Forester, however, we don't get much snow in Southern California. Nonetheless, it's good to see how it performs in a realistic snow situation, for when we go to the mountains this winter. Makes me feel more much more comfortable. Thanks again for producing this video.
you got snow now lol
@@uncledamfee2347hahahaha love this comment
Great video !! I was on the fence between he outback Onyx and the forester sport and you helped me make up my mind. I appreciate it
How’s your experience been?
Just bought a '23 Forester Sport last week and totally love it! Now I love it even more after seeing this!!
This is the video that solidified my choice in getting this car! You guys need more subs! Such well done video.
I want to see a “trail” model of the Outback, Forester and Crosstrek. 1) remove the CVT. 2) add a low range for better crawl ratio. 3) lifted 2” with 2” larger tires. 4) full skids underneath. 5) stronger running gear. If this were achieved Subaru would not keep up with the demand.
mike smiley i’d buy that
Keep the cvt...
theyre comming out with wilderness outbacks and foresters that come from the factory with a lift and more aggressive wheels, and the crosstrek is getting the 2.5 in the top trim
I did that to my 2016 Ouback 3.6r. LP Aventure lift and the biggest widest tires that would fit in the wheel well. It's better on the beach than my last three jeeps but not as good in dirt as my 2005XT with a real tranny. The computer cuts power too soon so it won't climb embankments like my 2005 did.
@San Diago yet they are paying over 60K for an unreliable jeep? Makes no sense.
Hi - just bought a 2019 Forrester and am glad I watched this video - loved that tow assist - thanks!
Thank you for these excellent videos! I’m picking up my 2020 Forester Sport in a week and I’m so excited.
How do you like your 2020 Forester Sport after a week's drive? I had a test drive and liked it overall. But I live in Minnesota and wonder if it's a good car to drive in the winter.
We loved the stance of the Forrester...but the main reason we chose the Outback was because of the available 3.6r engine. For a vehicle thats marketed for all terrain capability, it should have a more powerful engine option for buyers. And our Outback still gets great gas mileage so we’re glad we chose to go with the extra power. But I loved the more SUV style feel of driving the Forrester.
Subarus are amazing in the snow - love seeing them in comparison tests with their "competition." I was hopelessly stuck in 9+ inches of snow on a Michigan seasonal road until I engaged X-Mode and stepped on it. It was just like in this video except I needed to go up a slight incline. I will always own a Subaru.
I have the 2017 Impreza Sport and there have been a number of times this winter when I got home and said to myself "No other car would've made it through that." Really impressed with what I've seen from this new Forester though.
I can relate, this has been a really bad winter in Michigan. Living in Northern Michigan has always been a challenge concerning driving. Our 2015 Outback has had no issues dealing with anything. We run Michelin all season progressive pattern tires that hands down are the best tires I have ever owned on any vehicle. Snow tires are NOT needed on this vehicle.
I still have a 2003 and a newer one. Both are great.😊
Just picked up one of these yesterday for my wife. She loves it. It really is a nice car. I'll probably still get some snow tires for the winter.
I work at Subaru of Gwinnett and I love these videos! Thank you for making this type of content to show to my new Subaru owners :)
Thank you for the real review. We ordered 2022 yesterday. It will be ready in 2 months.
Thank you for this great demonstration!
I bought a forester 2019 and comparing with another of 2014, with the same motor potency, it is a more refined product with various small details solved. Actually a very good product, with a correct price!
First vid I've seen that really shows the 'Deep M&S Mode" -- Thanks
Great presentation and production. Thank you for using good mics both in the field and at the office! Thought you needed some noise isolation padding but it turns out it was my own office with bare walls, not yours, lol! Then the icing on the cake. Was this at Keechelus Lake? Got stuck up there last year in my forester because I made the mistake of trying to turn around. Then I had to wait a few more hours because someone got stuck right where (presumably) you just saved someone.
I second all the XT comments. Searched for my '18 XT after hearing of them axing it for '19. Got the last one on the East coast in Touring trim and we love it. I'd like to see Subaru develop a plan to financially be able to have an XT option again (I know their sales weren't good hence the discontinuation) with front, mid and diff skid plates, as well as a higher mounted intake in the engine bay and possible relocation of the turbo from the front bottom of the engine to somewhere a little more safe.
I have the 2019 forester touring! I love this car!! It does need more horsepower.. don’t get me wrong in sport mode it’s pretty fast but just a bump in horsepower would be nice never the less it’s just amazing!
Thank you so much for your videos! I've been planning to buy a new car, but I've always owned a Jeep. I'm finally ready for something with better gas mileage, and your information and criticism helped me decide on a Forester!
Very good review and well made video. Your audio is on point.
WHAT A GORGEOUS LOOKING FORESTER
not the tail lights. the tail lights are ugly it's like a claw but if someone did a wrap of a crab it would be funny lol
Im a sales woman at Subaru in California and this is very helpful for my customers and myself! I love the sport and I plan on buying one myself. It has hill decent control into the XMode should it should slow itself but it ,of course, doesnt detect tall rocks haha im in love with this car more than my BMW
I just purchased a 2021 forester limited & absolutely love it! Can't wait to get my husband one as well! We recently went up north on a trip to Sacramento new-year weekend and it had been raining heavily there's a stretch of road called grapevine that gets icy ...was definitely nervous going thru there and the car had an icon that lit up that looked like a snowflake..letting us know it detected snow. The car handled amazing! Made to Sacramento...only bad thing while on our trip we were on freeway and something hit my windshield and cracked it! Thankfully I purchased the windshield warranty. It was 100% covered, invoice showed $1550 price to replace. Service has been outstanding!
I just got my 2023 crosstrek into 12 inches of snow. Xmode did terrific job when I got stuck. The regular mode was more than enough for driving in the 12 inches deep snow
I would love to see videos like this on vehicles like the new RAV4 (Ideally adventure or one with multi-drive mode select), CR-V, and other similar AWD crossovers.
If that was impressed to you, just imagine what's going on with snow tires!
imagine even more with chains!!! :P

Awesome video!! Love my dark blue 2019 Subaru Forester Sport
Michael Smith what made you pick the blue ? I am thinking either the white or blue but I haven’t seen the colors up close
Just bought my 2021 Sport with skid plates installed!!
Imagine what you could do with real snow tires...
True, but most people in the U.S. don't live in areas that need dedicated WINTER (not snow) tires. It would just be a waste of money and comfort. Occasional snow storms don't justify driving 2.9 months out of the 3 that are wintery on loud tires with less dry performance that wear out faster and cost more. Now if you live in the mountains or the snow belt, sure, you should have winter tires. Otherwise, good all-seasons are all you need.
@@afcgeo882 Winter tires aren't just for snowy areas. They improve handling and traction on cold road surfaces, which makes it safer to drive. All-seasons suck in Chicago winters.
@@afcgeo882 us canadians need snow tires.
@@shmoaeelshmoaeel8319 there's no such thing as "snow" tires. There are winter tires.

Best AWD system Subaru is superb nice review : ) I think I’ll buy my next car based on your amazing reviews this is what car reviews especially AWD videos keep testing them this way no winters just the way you would buy them.
I just purchased the same 2019 Forester that is featured in this video. I live in Florida, so it is unlikely that I will need the deep snow and mud X-Mode that you reviewed here, but it is very comforting to know that i should be safe in any situation where I would actually venture or would be visiting in the Southeast U.S. THANKS
I love how the problem is, there is no problem. 🤣 Good job Subaru!
Awesome just purchased one today
Just bought a 2023 Forester Wilderness Edition and LOVE it 💞
i'm a subie fan! and now, your fan! good job!
NEVER stop moving when going through deeper snow. Momentum is your friend when it comes to snow. Once you have a vehicle moving keep it moving. That goes with ANY vehicle.
I watched every review on the new Subaru Forester, and this one pushed me over the edge and I bought one. I've driven it to many places and it's amazing to drive, I love this vehicle more then I thought I would. Also the fuel economy is amazing. Subaru hit their mark. Their AWD system is no joke. And it's so comfortable. Honestly feel so lucky to have this car. :)
I am right at the edge right now!
@@armaniusmaximus i dont think you will regret, getting one. Its really made for people that are practical in execution, also there is alot of space, so it makes for a great road trip vehicle.

*figuratively.
Great video, A real test in a real life. Thank you
Love it! Door gets tossed open right into the snow/ice combo ripping the paint right off the car. Awesome!
Bring back the XT :)
not enough sales on the XT
They need to bring back the XT (turbo) maybe in that Subaru WRX blue too.
Add a niche trim the Sport+ with both skid plates (use metal this time!) AND the XT engine. This would be a real SPORT level to this Forester, much more than just some orange trim! Initially, use a healthy discount to spur sales!!
2018 XT absolutely rules.Great automobile.
@@JoseVargas-bs8gx No, the XT was made in Japan and such was only available in limited numbers. I had to hunt for mine, and drive 2 hours south to the only dealership with one. You can only get sales on what you have available. Subaru just wants all their north american cars made in north america for more money. Another factor could be saving the FADIT blocks for Subaru's new 3 row soccer mom car.
I am a 66 year old female and just moved to Utah. I sold my 2012 Toyota Camry (great in So. Cal, but not a "snow car") and chose a 2022 Forester. I am nervous for the snowy conditions that happen here, but this video made me so much less concerned...thank you! I just hit "subscribe!"
great test and video data, appreciate it.
Forester STI!!!! With all the X Modes
They should bring back the turbo engine. I agree that it is more enjoyable with more zip to it. If they concern about sales, put it in touring line.
Subaru made it clear that since only 5% of all Forester owners bought the XT they didn’t feel compelled to carry it forward and as a cost saving measure it made sense to them.
Ne kadar
Used to have a 97 Outback that plowed through snow storms. Loved it! Subaru knows snow!
Just purchased the Subaru forester. It’s my second personally but 4th in our family. Subi fan’ - simple gives me piece of mind and it’s super fun to drive. Would enjoy seeing the 2.4 engine with a new hood scoop. Come on Subaru.
Good review, but i would rather see it on a snowy road without previous tracks. would make it more interesting, but for sure, when you crawled out with the deep snow/mud feature on, that was awesome.
Having previous tracks means compact snow and ice which means less grip than just snow alone.
@@williamquemuel7824 Not true at all because with fresh snow, you have alot more of it IN YOUR WAY, holding you back that you have to bulldoze through. Whereas with it matted down, you just go right over it with nothing stopping you. Think if it with a field of flowers or weeds. with them up in your way, youre a lot slower running cause you have to push it all down where if you were follow in someone elses path, youd be able to run through it no problem.
Andrew That's poor comparison. Your comparison makes sense if you add a plow attachment to the vehicle. I live in snow conditions. Ice is harder to grip than snow. Try going up an icy hill versus a snowy hill. Your wheels will start to spin on ice not on snow. That's a fact of science. We talking about grip here not plowing in the context of X-mode. X-mode addresses grip and diverting action to the non-spinning wheels to move the vehicle not to plow through it. Your comparison applies if you add a plow attachment to the vehicle in the snow.
Andrew Here is something that addresses deep snow. kzhead.info/sun/g5tvfNCNsGZ5dok/bejne.html. kzhead.info/sun/YNeHdbiQamuLfHk/bejne.html
Perfect review. My wife was leaning towards the CX-9 before this video 🤣
The CX9 performs like pretty much any other crossover with AWD. Subaru has the best AWD system in the world.
this was one of the videos that lead me to the decision on buying the 2020 forester sport with the exact same color im at 38k miles now after 3 years of driving. i absolutely love it . I hope they come out with a more powerful powertrain either the 2.4turbo or a hybrid with 200+hp
LOVED this video b/c I'm considering a Forester. The best part: When you towed the Mazda CX-9!
STi Version with the Turbo Engine, that's what they should do next. On a separate note, I do have a 2015 Forester XT, and in the worst cases, even when X-mode wasn't enough, I just disengage the Traction Control, X-Mode off, and put the stick in Manual, and it gets the car unstuck. The all-wheel drive is amazing by itself, so I'm sure you could have done it as well, just by doing this without using X-Mode/D. Snow, although I know it would defeat the purpose of the whole video
Loved this video, though I'm going to be controversial and say that the car doesn't need the additional Horsepower. It gets amazing gas mileage and was able to pull that CX-9 to safety just fine. With that, I'm confident in saying Sport>XT!
I drove one recently and am thinking of buying one. And I agree. It’s gets up to 60 fast enough, launches hard and quick letting you get out in traffic easily. And that awesome gas mileage. And I am looking at a 2013 model. So even less power.
Its a great vehicle but definitely needs a turbo. He’s right about the added comfort of the new models. This will be my first winter testing it out in the snow.
Got my 2021 forester sport in April and excited to take up to mountains this weekend.
Great video! Excellent filming. I would love to try out the deep snow with my 3.6r Outback. Hard to find in Sydney, Australia!
I’ve had 4 foresters, never needed x mode. Subaru’s r the best tracking car in the snow. Period ...funny I live in the cascades
6:10 he turned the wheels all the way to the right forcing the vehicle to get “stuck”, 6:27 “turns on x-mode deep snow” but turns the wheels all the way to the left, to be honest i’m a big subie fan, but if you’re gonna do an honest test, be true please, any SUV you could of done the same thing, gets stuck on purpose, and get out.
That was the first thing I noticed too
This seems the only video showing car able to go through snow. i am sold.
I just bought a Forester wilderness. Can't wait for the first snow in my area!!!
We've had 3 WRX's, a Crosstrek and now a 2.5 Outback... I LOVED the WRX's for the power and torque. My wife was getting too many tickets, so we got a Crosstrek... After 90K miles, we just bought an Outback and yeah, its not crazy power, but hey, we don't tow with it and it does "fine" on grades and passing... Turbo power means lower MPG and premium fuel- In California that is $4 per gallon... Do I miss the power? nah, that's what motorcycles are for!
So if I only have the original X Mode, all I have to do is turn off my traction control and now I have deep snow and mud?
I just bought my first subaru. The 2022 forester sport and I love it.
Nice review on 2019 Subaru Forester X mode and deep snow mode.
Deep snow is a gimmick. Just turn off traction and floor it lol works every time in my outback. I rarely use x mode off road. Regular mode works just fine. I don’t get why regular x mode cuts power if it can’t find traction.
