( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC replaces the old Mercedes-Benz GLK. It is completely new and completely redesigned, including a new engine as Roman recently found out in this very soggy TFLcar first drive review from Atlanta, Georgia.

  • Beautiful car. My only and small complaint is the way the Mercedes emblem is presented on the front grill. Somehow I feel it could be more elegant.

  • I went with the GLC due to the driverless options it has over other SUV's in the same class. I ordered my SUV and it was built on Sept 1 and i will get it in 2 to 3 weeks.

  • I dreaded this review. I own a 2014 GLK. I like the GLK because it is right sized. It also doesn't look like every other cross over and is getting over 21mpg combined with the V-6. GLC is bigger; looks less funky and more anonymous. Less desirable to me. I've also driven a new C class sedan and found the display and input device worked just fine. The price of the car is fine and in line with what MB customers expect to pay. Thanks for the review.

  • I like the idea of recording the actual first car review, it gives two perspectives and enables you to shoot a longer video. However, whilst I also like the less structured, and more conversational, aspect of this type of review, care should be taken not to let it drift into the amorphous. Your primary goal is the passing on of information to the viewer, and this is best done via a clearly defined framework, rather than by splodges.

    @MrKeyboardCommando@MrKeyboardCommando8 жыл бұрын
    • Because of the heavy rain a traditional TFL first drive review was almost impossible to shot thus we have more of a vlog approach to this car review.

      @TFLcar@TFLcar8 жыл бұрын
    • +The Fast Lane Car Thanks for the explanation, it's appreciated. However, I think this video has some tremendous advantages over your traditional format. It can appear far more spontaneous, encompass a great many subjects, and can be a conversation rather than a monologue. In my opinion it just needs refinement and tuning. You should run with this type of review, it's got legs.

  • I read the comments below. In all fairness, that other guy detracted Roman's review. Roman would have used the sport plus to enhance performance and other features, that would have given a better review to the rest of the vehicle, without the "kid" and added weight. He seemed to spend a lot of time explaining things to the "sidekick," and actually, I found the passenger(Michael) reviewer irritating at times. I thought Roman did the best under the circumstances. The new GLC is a fine product and deserves another unbiase review by Roman, alone, to give more cohesiveness and clarity to this vehicle.

  • One of the longer reviews from TFLCar I can recall. Plenty of issues I have with this car but I'll touch on one: What does MB have in common with Mazda? The Nav screen is oddly placed on the dash. Seems like an afterthought by designers. Looks cheap.

Do their owners not look under the hood, or is it a culture that just takes it to the dealer once a month and pays a guy to do that for them? I've never even been in one so I don't know anything about them.

    @quadrunner2124@quadrunner21248 жыл бұрын
    • Uh it's an engine bay covered with plastics like 99% of car manufacturer do. I don't quite get what you're complaining about here... These guys are not going to show us anything under the hood, they might not even know where the engine is LOL

    • rock Screw that. They should have enough pride in their work to let it show. Wires and hoses should be all nice, neat, and organized. Fittings should all be flush. Engine should be cleanable. I'm just gonna keep living in the past.

    • rock I know its custom, but in the days of old the great manufactures used to make engines look like this. www.ocdworks.com/?page_id=295 They did so because they knew they had built something extraordinary and they wanted it displayed proudly, for everyone to see. Such pride is something I'd expect from a luxury vehicle. Here are some OEM examples. beautifullyengineered.tumblr.com/post/104971792858/lexus-lfa-production-versus-prototype-engine-bay www.benzworld.org/forums/vintage-mercedes-benz/1694196-w114-steering-wheel-2.html www.buickstreet.com/the-great-race.html

  • Roman, what's up with the outdated views on cars? Let me explain: You review vehicles in a way that Motorweek did back in the 80s. You're sitting in the pinnacle of technology, yet, you fail to fully mention and talk about it in length. You go back and forth with the same topic of "this is a big C class" (duh), "It isn't sporty", and my favorite "this car is not a serious off roader" (but it isn't a dirt path meek either). You mention how you do this for a living yet I know more of this car than you do just by simply googling. I don't mean to insult you, because you're great and I used to love watching your videos, but you need to keep up and change the way you review things. No need to be some creepy hipster, just talk about how great the technology is (which is THE MAIN reason his vehicle was created) and talk about everything else as well.... You know, just keep up with your audience and people my age (young professionals who want to purchase their first entry level luxury and we're looking for reviews that cater to us)

    @Zavarcerealtor@Zavarcerealtor8 жыл бұрын
    • Thanks for the comment. Roman says he'd love to watch your review of the GLS. But please keep in mind that besides googling the car you'll need to know how to shot, edit, produce and present the review in a rain storm. Please post it and send us the link and we will be happy to watch your take on the car.

This is an informative review; in particular, highlighting the difficulties of using COMAND while driving (you know, the technology). The other stuff you mentioned is vital for people who actually would drive the car.

    • Plus GLK has more power to weight ratio. GLC is bigger with less power to haul the people in it. GLK in my opinion looks very nice.

  • Mercedes might not have the same "over engineered" reputation here in europe. Man, they had some serious quality issues around the year 2000. In other words, they where crap! I rented a E-class last year and I don't get what people are saying about the interior quality. It was ok but not top notch.

    • Yeah I do too. MB is already working on fixing that with fitting the screen with an S class approach. Test cars have already been spotted. Perhaps a 2017/18 model?

    • +Samuel Abraham hopefully. The new E class has the same screen format as the S class... Even the 100K+ G wagon has this damn ugly cheap looking screen lol

      @rock-oz7eg@rock-oz7eg8 жыл бұрын
    • +rock So I went to my Mercedes dealer who has sold me all of my cars, and he told me that the C class and GLC will be facelifted to have the S class setup. Not 12 inch screens, but like the outgoing E class. Then there will be an option to have 12 inch screens. As for the CLA and GLA, they don't look like they're gonna change the screen setup for now. The placement of the G class screen is kind of hard to deal with. Previously it was fitted where the buttons for COMMAND are, and was pretty much impossible to see. Now that the screen is where it is, you can actually see it. A new facelifted G is supposedly coming out in 2018/19 so we may see some changes. I think the GLE and GLS will stay how they are until they are completely replaced in 2019/20

    • You live in the only place in the world where you can drive at 200kph. For the rest of the world it's a waste of time. It's unnecessary mechanical complexity for very little benefit. This car will be endlessly shifting gears and I'd hate to go manual mode with 9 gears.

      @kevinn1158@kevinn11588 жыл бұрын
    • If you wanted a taller final gear, that's possible even if you only had 6 or 7 gears. Having 9 just means constant shifting.

  • Every plastic lens headlight will change color eventually, none are meant to withstand 10+ years of UV radiation. 3-7 years is the test spec I believe. Don't knock MB for that as every car brand will suffer from the same problem.

    @aaroneberle5920@aaroneberle59208 жыл бұрын
    • Perhaps you missed the point of Roman's statement. Once upon a time MB would have never used a plastic lens for precisely the reason you state.

      @TFLcar@TFLcar8 жыл бұрын
    • +The Fast Lane Car Not really...over-engineering a vehicle would mean the integration of plastics and thus reducing weight. If MB of old had the full-capability to utilize plastics they would have. In fact there's more "over engineering" now then ever-before. I understand the point but maybe it's meant more for the general public and not those of us who are actually engineers (or in my case a Automotive Lighting Engineer)....thank you for the reply though!
