What was supposed to be a peaceful protest turned into a violent clash with the police. What followed was one of the most notorious trials in history.
Why this event wasn't covered AT ALL in my history classes is insane. Watching this movie with such little historical context literally blew my mind. I mean sure, it's an adaptation and some of it is dramatized, but holy shit to what IS true to life.
America likes to hide its sins.
And probably it will make young people think ... And we don't like that in our education system (sarcasm) And happens all around the world. I'm a teacher in south america, and to many times I have got called too much or even lefty because I WANT MY STUDENTS TO THINK. And I only teach accounting 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️... The hole system is corrupt...
If you want your mind blown, watch the trials online in their entirety acted out on KZhead in doc films. The judge was so biased, and disgusting, I can't believe he wasn't disbarred. I remember these times well, being older. Abbie was a remarkable guy.
Don’t feel bad, I went to school in the 80’s and it wasn’t covered then either.
I was so bummed that Paramount sold the film to Netflix because I really wanted to see this on a big screen. But I'm glad they did, this is a film that needs to be seen.
I live in New Zealand and i got to see it in the theatre and it was great
I’m getting a chance to see it in a theater this Friday.
@@Unqualifiedmedicalperson it could still win the oscar for Best Picture
@@65g4 I’m pretty sure that’s going to Nomadland. Although my personal pick would be for Minari.
@@Unqualifiedmedicalperson yes Nomadland is the favourite i did really like Minari as well
I love how Jeremy Strong still seems to be in character in his interview.
He probably was. Sacha said that he was always in character during the movie and in Succession he also stays as Kendall the whole time.
Holy shit I almost didn't recognise him. He's like the polar opposite of Kendall Roy
He's like a cross between Reggie Watts and Charlie from it's always sunny in Philadelphia.
Jeremy Strong was actually Daniel Day Lewis' personal assistant for a few years if I recall correctly. I think he learned a thing or two about method acting from him, as he seems to also stay in character throughout the shoot.
I literally didn't recognize him until I saw this video. I always knew he was one of the greatest actors alive. This movie is proof
I was 4 years old when I was in the middle of this riot. This film gave me full sensory flashbacks of things I did not remember living through. Of the tang of the teargas, the sounds of the screaming of my mother as she defended us from the police batons, with nothing but her bicycle and her body. I felt this movie and it was good.
Omg that’s insane!! Do you remember anything more??
Considering how the Judge acted in this trial makes you wonder how many other trials he presided on which... have been unfair
This was the worst ever.
That judge has a special place in hell waiting for him.
Frank Langella acting as Judge Hoffman was an incredible performance among stellar acting this film. Watching this flawed man who had entered that courtroom with a guilty verdict already in mind made me HATE that kind gentleman. What a brilliant film, and what incredible acting from absolutely every single actor involved.
This movie was way ahead of it's time. One of my favorite movies of 2020! Sorkin deserves an Oscar for his screenplay
I agree
It was good but "ahead of it's time"? What do you mean by that? The movie was made 50 years (!) after the fact...
Very good movie. However, Sorkin took the trial transcripts verbatim.
True but promising young woman was incredible
My brother was in elementary school with Abby Hoffman's children, and they all went on a civil rights march together - with Abby Hoffman, in Boston. When I was 13, I went to an anti war demonstration on the Boston Common, with Abby Hoffman speaking. He was electrifying. But I left because I could see police batons being used on the crowd.
That movie was amazing, crazy how they dont really address this in school
I agree great movie and now I'm wondering why this isn't part of US History curriculum.

@@theopinionisthighqualityopinio Ok thats a good perspective and a sound judgement . Yep Indeed if it was taught in high school the history of it would be written by the victors... and primarily a shit pot of lies.
@@theopinionisthighqualityopinio that's true to an extent but it should still be mentioned or addressed instead of just dismissed
There are mentions of it... if you take APUSH, then the teacher may have a small lecture on it.
So heart breaking and wild that this great film took 13 years to make because of the untimely passing of two of it's main cast. Thank goodness it was made and no better time for it. Long live Ledger and Seymour-Hoffman
Great inside the episode. Great movie. Great true story. Legends
It's like Sacha is channelling a slightly animated Christopher Walken to nail the accent. It's so cool
My respect for this masterpiece of a film after watching this video: 📈📈📈📈
I will never forget these times.
Xhxxx
Alex Sharp as Rennie Davis was a standout! I dont know how he did that as a quiet wallflower type but he did! Mark Rylance had me convinced he was a new yorker!
There is a made for TV show on this subject called Conspiracy: The Trial of the Chicago 8 (1987). KZhead has it. Also it had within the movie, interviews with the real people who were being portrayed. Everyone was still alive then. And to it's credit they play the song Chicago as the credits roll.
tHIS IS THE AVENGERS OF ACTING THIS IS UN
Listen to and read lyrics of Ball of Confusion, Temptations. I was in middle school, but I remember this well. Wanted to go to protest in Grant Park. My mom wouldn't let me.
"Never seen anything quite like this" 2020 begs to differ
An amazing movie, one of my new favorites to come back to.
Been watching Aaron Sorkin on Masterclass.
Looks so good
OMG 😎 this is super awesome man😎
John Carroll Lynch is a ridiculously underrated actor and his direction in Lucky is wonderful. What a talented man.
One of my favorite movies. Everyone needs to watch it.
This movie is so good. And I forced my mom to watch it
Thanks for the heads up.
Yup. And she fell asleep.
This is so great 🌷😎👍🏼💜

I remember this all as I was a young kid. I remember Vietnam on TV, Abbie Hoffman, and the riots. I can't believe this is not known by young people.
Such a brilliant film! Top 5 in my books! Definitely recommend!
I give it 5 stars
I totally loved this movie
💪💪People are the real rulers in the world.....History Talks...👁
This movie is my favourite movie.
Nice and important movie
I will regret not having known about this film and missing the chance to watch it in theater. Not even sure, if it released in my country.
script was written in 2007 and he didnt change it but it still much relevant
Any updates on the birthday cake movie
My favourite movie of 2020.
Howard Zinn A History of the United States is also a good read for things left out of our History books.
Did anyone else think Jeremy Strong was Giovanni Ribisi? I legitimately did think it was him! 😂
this is the kind of costume design job that would be too much to psychologically handle but also very fun because 70's hahaha
They're really pushing this for an Oscar nomination huh
This was a great movie id be happy if it won best picture at the Oscars
Jeremy strong might be the best actor alive right now
Is that the same court room as A Few Good Men?
I can't believe I was living in Chicago at that time.... 7 months of age!! 🙈
Hi guys!💖✨
Te amo
Aaron sorkin❤️
I was born in 91 and I never knew that this happened thank you for making this movie and I actually couldn't believe the unjustice that people had to endure and all the things that they did for people's rights back in the days😲
I'm I the only person who lost their shit over the 1984 reference during the scene that is before the sentencing scene?
Hi :D
sup :3
Eddie redmayne as tom hayden is a big level up from a french hopeless romantic student activist singing love songs to an orphan karen smith
This movie is relevant in 2021.
1968-2021
Go Netflix
Oscar is coming 😂
Wow
does anyone want to hear joseph gordon-levitt's thoughts on american politics?
Oscars For your consideration 🏆
Can't believe a aron is spelt wrong
Ho Chi Minh committed a brutal màss-murder of landlords in North Vietnam in the 1950s. Even Ken Burns showed this of Ho.
Sore? .....😈😂😂😂
Is this a movie about the storming of US Capitol?
No, it is about the Vietnam protests
I guess you could say that this is the Time that the Left had finally had enough with its party and a show of force was just inevitable. Ironically it was also about a stolen election (in a way) lol?
no it's the next star wars sequel
Sascha Baron Cohen deserves the oscar for his role.
I cannot take Sasha seriously.
Ninguém bota Fé em mim." Mas é isso que me motiva! Sucesso pra geral que leu esse comentário❤
too many presidents have sent this country into turmoil. its time for a new system of governing.
Trump agrees.
Diplomacy sucks
Were Tom Hayden and Abbie Hoffman siblings in real life, or half-siblings or something?
@neville shah bawa sorkin is god
I hated the music soundtrack. It had nothing to do with the reality of the times, or the issues. The Sixties anti-war protest songs and iconic R&B and soul from the civil rights movement would have made more sense.
Agree. The music selection was an irksome disappointment. Especially the omission of CS&N's Chicago. Huge flaw in my book.
Not much of a soundtrack in this film. :(
Mark rylan does NOT look like my greaT grandfather William Kunstler
As Aaron sorkin say "it's painting not photographs"
@@appodeepo8816 yes. But he also doesn’t sound like him either
can you please put one piece the anime in netflix and every weeb would love that
It already is on Netflix U.S.
One piece is on Netflix all the way to alabasta but I don't know if their going to add on to it because one piece is HUGE hell 60 episodes a season is a lot for a streaming service to handle
but not in Asia Im sad
@@tanchiro4294 oh well that does suck but I've been meaning to ask someone this for years what's Asia like besides the Asian giant hornet ignore that
@@tommycriton9758 hmm it's nice there is no snow where i live unlike japan here where i live it is so hot
That Aaron Sorkin, supposedly an informed writer can say, "We never seen anything quite like it before" after the NYC draft riots of 1863 and numerous bloody labor conflicts from after the Civil War up to the 1930s, really says a lot about the shallow sense of history of this country's creative class.
I think he meant as a whole, not just the riots. But the trial and that “the whole world was watching” people were listening to it on the radio, hearing about it on tv. Which hadn’t happened before for an event like that.
👍👋

Mediocre. A low-point for Sorkin.
