The 2024 Porsche Cayenne S ($149,770 as specced in Canada, $129,820 in the US) is now back in V8 format after several years of V6 power. But how does it compare to the cheapest V8 of yesteryear we could find, a 2009 Porsche Cayenne S being sold for just $10,995 in Canada (~$7,970 USD converted). The new Cayenne S boasts some serious power and can be optioned to the moon, but the older Cayenne has some rugged character and costs less than just a few options on the new one. How far has the Cayenne come in 15 years? Thomas and James are excited to find out! We hope you enjoy the episode! And then subscribe, silly.

My dads 06 Turbo S was flawless for engine/transmission at 155k, but the key stuck in the ign, worn bushings, few oil leaks etc, everything added up to not be worth it really and he bought a new base model, (2019 at the time) still has it and absolutely loves it. • Totally. And I think porsche dropped a ball a bit when they ditched that part in new generations. I mean apart from some billionares, nobody offroads Land Cruisers or Range Rovers as _new_ either. But big part of their value is that second owners do. And it's an option for the mad sort of first ones too. And I would claim that atleast in my neck of the woods, very few (if any), Land Cruisers aren't offroaded in their later life.

Also mine was 5% of the original price here in Malaysia thanks to heavy taxes. I got one with regular suspension because 15 years later the price of a new set of air suspension from Porsche costs more than the car, it's very likely to break soon and recons or Chinese will also break within 6 months. • Great video!! I just bought a one owner 2005 base model with 6sp manual with 126k miles from a family friend in August for dirt cheap because trade-in values tanked and they literally parked it in 2017. With a bunch of personal repair labor and parts that aren’t super expensive I have it back on the road as of October. Being a shared platform with the Q7 and Touareg, there is an abundance of aftermarket support for the older ones AND Porsche announced the 955 & 957 are a part of Porsche Classic program.

I have hardwired dual dash cams in both our vehicles and if it was an option from factory to have the wires and predetermined location done, I'd be all over that.

    • The maintenance costs are overblown on these. Yeah, I could see the outrageous maintenance costs if the work was done entirely at a stealership--sorry--dealership. However, if whatever maintenance jobs or repairs were taken care of at a quality independent mechanic shop. This particular example notwithstanding, the Cayennes of this generation are pretty reliable. The 4.5 V8 is a Porsche design with some weaknesses, but the V6 (VR6) is the ideal engine for longevity as it makes decent power, sounds great, and is a proven engine overall. Even the V8s aren't bad in the long term once the initial quirks have been solved.

  • I love my '15 Cayenne SEH, just about to hit 100k miles and my total repair expense (not counting regular maintenance/ consumables) is $0.13 for a resistor for a failed pedestrian alert speaker. Also the flex discs on the driveshaft were replaced as part of a TSB under previous ownership. I am of the opinion that Cayennes are the most complete car on the market (did you know they tow 7,700 lbs, more than any other SUV or small truck, a tacoma is only good for 6,800 for context). Also a correction to a misconception, the cayennes have actually become even more capable offroaders with each generation, its just that with the 958 gen they switched from a manual two speed transfer case to an automatic torque vectoring one. Find me another car capable of swallowing the whole family plus luggage for a two week vacation that has the NVH of an S class, handles like a sports sedan, has real steering feel, does 60 in under 5, is as reliable as a Toyota, can tow a large boat, and has the fit and finish of a Porsche. Also my SEH is returning ~31-32 mpg lifetime average. The V8 in the new S is the ea825 btw, flash tune gives you 725 hp, add an intake and intercoolers and its good for 830, and with tte1020 hybrid turbos it can make 930 hp pump gas without other mods, total cost of about $9k installed including intercoolers intake and tune.
