  • This makes Finneas O'Connell the first ever man to win 2 Oscars before age 30 (he's 26), while his sister Billie Eilish becomes the youngest ever 2-time winner at age 22. However, there is the brother-sister team of Douglas Shearer (sound mixer) and actress Norma Shearer, both of whom won their first Oscars for Sound Recording and Lead Actress respectively in the same year. Both of them won at the 3rd Academy Awards held in 1930. Brother and sister Lionel and Ethel Barrymore won Oscars for Lead Actor and Supporting Actress respectively although in different years. When she thanked Greta she looked so supremely grateful, her face definitely told me “I owe you everything girl”. I’m so proud of them, they came such a long way. You can tell that winning their first Oscar was moment they wanted to live in because it wasn’t even in their thought that they would get nominated and win again, and with it happening just 2 short years later, shows how surreal it is. Billie getting all teary is poignant. I’m so proud of them, it’s incredible. They just made history as the first to win ‘The triple crown of Oscar, golden globe, & Grammys in the same year’ 2x & Billie is the youngest artist to win an Oscar 2x. • SO very much deserved-they have two of the most brilliant minds that have ever “made it” in the music industry. It’s incredibly fascinating to watch their process…and the way that they support each other and are both still so incredibly grounded (I know SO much of that has to do with how their parents raised them!) So cool to see them sitting right next to their kiddos at the Oscars! And I freaking love that they’ve brought the ‘rents on tour with them from the beginning….you don’t hear of that happening with other artists…That family dynamic is so unique and really heartwarming in how much they love each other-a standout example to me is how their parents slept in the living room in the house they grew up in (which was only a 2 bedroom), so that both Finneas and Billie could have spaces of their own🥹. Both sibs have synesthesia, which will forever fascinate me (they see certain notes/sounds as colors, etc) which I definitely think sets their music apart from the norm. If you watch the documentary (methinks it’s available on KZhead), it’s incredible to watch Finneas on the computer creating, as they bounce ideas off of each other like it ain’t no thang. But it’s straight up magical🙌

And when Barbie came out I had just come back home after a divorce, which happened because my marriage had the impacts of cancer (i had hodgkins lymphoma) and my mother died while I was on treatment. I lost my job, we lost our apartment too, our cat died and many things lead me into an existential crisis that I bottled up because I had to do what I had to do to survive. Then my marriage was over and I had lost everything. I went to watch the movie with my best friend and when this song came up and I paid attention to the lyrics it just hit me... it was powerful, it was meaningful just as much as the movie.
