MIB2 firmware update tutorial (VW Audi Skoda Seat download links)
Guide to software update in VW Golf MK7 with MIB2 Discover Media infotainment system. This car is equipped with #MIB2 Standard unit made by Technisat/Preh and it came from the factory with MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P0245T #firmware (software number 0245). The latest firmware officially available for this unit is 0254 (SW train: MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P0254T). But there are ways to force #update to even higher versions like 0478.
⚠️ Warning! You are doing it at your own risk! This procedure can overwrite your custom modifications (CP-OFF, CID-Lock, SWaP patch, custom skins, Toolbox, Personal POI).
⚠️ Make sure your cars battery is in good shape, use external power source, or turn the engine on for the update process to make sure that voltage drops will not interrupt firmware update.

Use user/password: guest/guest to access the website.
Navigate to MQB_Solution directory and select your type of unit.
🛠 Procedure
1. Enter hidden menu and check your current SW train.
2. Find and download latest supported firmware update for your unit.
3. Use 8GB or larger SD card, format it with FAT32 file system with the smallest allocation size available.
4. Copy firmware update files to the root directory of the SD card.
5. Remove SD cards from the main unit and insert update SD into SD1 port.
6. Press and hold MENU button for 3 seconds, select "Software update/versions", "Update", "SD card", select firmware, press "Start" and "Next".
7. Wait patiently. Main unit will reboot 3 times before the new firmware is installed.
8. When the installation is complete you can press the arrow in the upper-right corner, "Cancel". Unit will reboot one final time.
9. Press and hold MENU button to confirm that the unit is running new firmware version now.
10. Use scan tool like OBDeleven or VCDS to clear the B201A fault code according to this tutorial: • Fix SVM code B201A - C...
ℹ️ MIB2 units are made by 3 different vendors - Harman, Delphi, Technisat/Preg. Each vendor is developing its own firmware version and release its own updates.
ℹ️ MIB units have different generations - MIB1, MIB2, MIB3. Also different tiers - Entery, Standard, High, Premium. Also separate releases for different platforms - ZR and PQ; and separate regions - EU, NAR, JP, KOR, RoW. And each car manufacturer has its own brand-specific versions - Audi, Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda, Porsche. Each generation, tier, platform, car brand combination its using its own firmware version.
ℹ️ Depending on tier and functionality, car brands use different names for similar units. You can find VW Discover Pro, VW Discover Media, VW Composition Media, Skoda Bolero, Skoda Amundsen, Skoda Columbus, Seat Navi, Seat Navi Pro, Audi MMI...
ℹ️ MIB2 Technisat/Preh unit running firmware 02xx will allow you to install only other 02xx firmware version. It is possible to install higher versions (03xx and 04xx) but some system modifications are required. 0254 Is the latest version released for VW ZR units 02xx

Is touch not working a common problem? Just trying to figure out if I must by the OBDeleven before attempting the update... Update: well I just went for it with a modest update to the most recent official version vs. patches to something later. If that fixes my Android Auto hang problems I won't bother with anything later - without any kind of Change Log there's nothing to tempt me to a more recent version.

OMG, thank you! This (along with your fault-clearing video) helped me get my 2017 Golf R MIB2 updated! The dealer says there isn't an update (I'm on MU 0751), but I new there's a MU 0755 out there. Your guides and links actually got me to MU 0757! Nice! I don't see anything new, but the original reason why I was looking to update was I started experiencing spontaneous reboots every 5-10 minutes. It coincided with my Pixel 6 Pro getting it's long-delayed update (January 2022), so I thought my phone update caused it (rolled my eyes, figured it was yet another Google Pixel 6 related bug). When my friend plugged in his Galaxy S20 so we can use AA/Google Maps, it still rebooted, so it started me looking into my head unit. Pulling the factory SD card (Navigation for NAR v3) fixed the issue. I feel much better that my head unit is now updated and hopefully any underlying bugs are fixed, too.

@@mrfixpl The update seems to have fixed the issue, but it may have been the SD card data too. At the same time I updated it with NAR v11 maps (had to delete some states to keep it under 16 GB). Now that I know my head unit is good, I just bought a geniune VW Nav v11 card just so I can have the 32GB card for future updates.

Thank you very much! I upgraded my Golf 7.5 GTI Performance from MU Version 0472 to 0480, from Software Train Version MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P0472T to MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P0480T (TechniSat). It took about 20 minutes with a 16 GB micro-SD card with SD adapter with 3 reboots as expected. I lost only radio logos but it is not important for me; other preexisting functionalities like Apple Carplay/Android Auto, Performance monitor (as a GTI) and other stuff are still working fine. Nice!

I'm currently tryin for the 4th time to download the P0369T but i wanna wait to be sure before trying to install it (from USB stick, hope it works like a microsd).
0369 is lates supported by your unit.

Great Tutorial! I have a unit with HW022 and SW MST2_EU_VW_PQ_P0245T, then I used the tutorial to update it to P0253T. However, I would like to update it even more (for P0478T, for example), because I've bought a AAWireless Dongle (from Indiegogo) and it does not work with the firmware I have installed on my unit. I'm pretty sure that this update would solve this problem, since I've tested in a newer unit (HW 04x and SW MST2_EU_VW_PQ_P0449T) and it worked. Could you please let me know how to perform update from P0253T to P04xxT?

@@kadirtas25, if the unit is exactly the same (H02x and SW P02xxT) you can update to P0253T... it is a simple update since this SW is the latest one made to this HW version... Just copy the firmware to a Fat32 SD Card and proceed with the update in your head unit... In case you want to update to other SWs, such as P03xxT or P04xxT, then you need other advanced procedures that I'm still trying to learn...

Bug fixes. But there's a way of installing facelift firmware (which I tried 2 days ago and ended up locked out from my infotainment unit. check one of my recent videos about MIB2 system recovery).

Hi! I can see that you perform the update process with your car engine on despite the warning information saying to have it off... I would like to update my MIB2. Thanks to you I got it downloaded and prepared but I am not sure if I should do that with my engine running since my golf is GTE hybrid (2016 mk7.5). It could stop combustion engine to use electric one for a moment like it used to do (and it is beyond my control). Could it affect the updating process? The reason of my concern is a fact that I am not 100% sure about my 12V battery condition regarding voltage drops (it is around 5 years old (first registration of the car is dated on 2017)). At the moment I have no option to support my 12v battery with external power source, I mean..it would be problematic for me to arrange place + get/buy a battery charger. PS. I have spent hours trying to find (websites, forums, etc...) any answer to my question before asking you, unfortunately with no success. Any advice from you will be greatly appreciated!
Je suis passé à la version MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P0369T le 22/08/2022 (j'avais avant la MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P0363T) avec une batterie chargée que de 70% et cela n'a pas posé de problème, mais il vaut mieux laisser le moteur allumé par sécurité pour charger la batterie, sinon branchez une autre batterie à côté avec les pinces si vous avez vraiment peur... Je voudrais passer directement de la version MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P0369T à MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P0480T que j'ai téléchargée mais impossible, le Média info affciche" le fichier Meta info n'a pas pu être lu" avec "Dependancies of udapte not met" alors que le fichier Meta info se trouve bien à la raçine de la carte SD... Quelqu'un aurait la solution pour passer d'un software 363T à 4xxT ?

Thank you so much for this video. We were able to fix our infotainment system in our Golf R by performing a firmware update. I see there are additional newer firmware updates and wanted to know if there was anywhere I could go to see release notes to determine if it's worth upgrading to newer firmware. Will the update work on a Vw Golf GTE 2017 with a Discovery Media (the one with the virtual cockpit)? I did found newer version of the MST2, but not sure if I do the update will all the settings/functions of the EV on the car will still work? And can still use the Vw We Connect app? will still work and connect from the phone? And will this affect the warranty of the car? (Still have 2 years extended warranty and already had a problem with the We connect app and there was an update of the Multimedia) Thank you!

I am struggling though to find out how to install the patch that is under the folder MQB_SOlution\_preMib2\Mhig-Harman\Mhig_EU_VW_K1550 MU0407 Patch. I am running the latest firmware that is 0407, and I am having issues with the sound. It only starts to work after I enter the service menu, and exit while it is searching for the update files.
Thank you for your help. MHIG 0388 works fine. I found it in the folder named _preMIB2/MHIG-HARMAN/firmware/vw . It fixed my Golf mk7 MIB1 no sound issue

Thank you for the great tutorial. If I update the firmware from MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P0245T to the 254 version will the Fec/Swap remain or will they be deleted?
They will remain in the system and stay valid, as long as those are factory installed codes. If unit was patched by 3rd party, the patch will be overwritten and any self-generated codes will be invalid. Unit will require to be patched again.

Changes are minor. Bug fixes that you would not notice if you don't have any issues with the unit.

Found after reading all comments that 231 is the correct one for me. Once i unzip file do u leave it in one folder or do i copy subfolders? Somehow when i go under update, all options ( SD USD CD) are grayed out. Any ideas ? br, A
For all that are reading this Update from 227 to 231 by unziping files, and take then out of folder and load on your sd card. Then it works Unfortunately not any mayor changes like app connect or navi. Br, A

Great video, looking to update my software now which is currently MST2_EU_VW_PQ_P0468T. Only question is....are the letters/numbers following the P0480T in the download (MST2_EU_VW_PQ_P0480T-3G0919360QT.7z) relevant or is it just that first lot of digits that are important? je ne pense pas que les chiffres après sont importants car je suis passé de la version MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P0363T à MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P0369T que j'ai téléchargée et tous les chiffres d'après étaient différents et la mise à jour a bien fonctionné... Mon problème est que je voudrais passer directement mai ntenant à la MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P0480T que je vous conseille au lieu de vouloir la 478T, vous n'aurez pas de problème puisque vous êtes déjà en version MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P04xxT mais pour moi j'ai essayé et impossible, le Média info affiche : "le fichier Meta info n'a pas pu être lu" et avec "Dependancies of udapte not met" alors que le fichier Meta info se trouve bien à la racine de la carte SD... Mais pour vous ce doit être bon. Quelqu'un aurait la solution pour passer d'un software 363T directement à 4xxT ?

Is it possible to update the unit to a complete different version to the current country, which is New Zealand?? I am actually trying to get the New Zealand maps on it. Is it possible to update the Japan firmware version and update it just to have the New Zealand maps?? Would that work? Thank you!!

So I'm a little confused. I have a Polo GT 2015 and the software version is : MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P0241T On the link you give I see 2 possible updates which are in the P02 series. Both of these are dated (modified Feb 5th) MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P0249T and MST2_EU_VW_ZR_P0252T_3G0919360AC That last one is concerning as the extra numbers after - what do they mean or more to the point are they important to consider? Should I try to update to P0252T or is it safer to stick with P0249T just in case those numbers are specific to some other model. I note there are a few of the firmwares that have an extra number on the end and since they are both dated 5th Feb

It is possible but it's not easy. You would have to remove the main unit from the vehicle, open in unit, solder into it, dump the eMMC content, modify it, upload it back...

Software train version for my 2017 Sportwagen is MST2_US_VW_P0633D. The installed MU version is 0755. Shouldn't the software train end with 0755 instead of 0633? If so, how do I fix it? Thanks! Great videos!!

Hello Mr. Fix So my current SW Train version is MHIG_EU_VW_P1054 and in the link from description there's a file named MHIG_EU_VW_K1550 MUO407 would it be possible to update the software with that version? I'm asking because the last part of the SW Train is not the same P1054 and K1550 so that confuses me a bit

I have been scouring the internet for a solution but have not been able to find anyone else with this problem. I have a question, my browser is updated and patched with Firmware MTS2_EU_VW_ZR_P0363T and I want to update and patch it to Firmware MTS2_EU_VW_ZR_P0367T. Would I have any problem updating the firmware while the current one I have installed is patched? Would it be the same process as the previous update, without complications greater than those I have had previously? I believe you can perform the update, next apply patch and that should be it. Unless you had some advanced custom modifications you should be fine.

If you are experiencing some issues with system stability, bluetooth connection, audio amplifier - firmware update might fix your issues.
