5 days because of you can't survive without the water in game anymore (IMPORTANT unless you are SICK if you are sick you need to give water earlier) Food is the latest at 10 days however this will make someone sick FAST (UNLESS SOMEONE IS already SICK) Every 5 is a good is a nice number so you keep track of every one so you don't forget and on harder difficulty it's a must in late game (also it exist ALOT else to keep track of in this game)
