Royal Marines train to be 'mountain ghosts' in brutal Arctic terrain

Royal Marine Commandos have been training in the Arctic, with the set goal of becoming 'mountain ghosts', disappearing into the unforgiving environment.
Forces News joined the commandos in Norway as they prepared to take part in the Norwegeian-led Exercise Joint Viking - which involves thousands of military personnel from across Nato.
Major Matt Snook, Officer Commanding, Yankee Company, 45 Commando Royal Marines, said the personnel are "trying to disappear" in the Arctic landscape as they deal with two foes - the "actual enemy" and the harsh terrain.

  • Good news , now that Norway has lifted its long time rule that forbid permanent NATO standing forces in Norway where one was only allowed to bring in kit , conduct artic warfare training and annual exercises , and then leave , all change for the Royals. The UK has announced the opening of a military base in the far north of Norway near a newly-established Norwegian site, called Camp Viking, is located around 40 miles south of Tromso, near the village of Øverbygd. and will serve as a hub for Royal Marine Commandos to strengthen NATO's capabilities in the Arctic . Camp Viking will be strategically located next to a Norwegian Armed Forces base and near to the established air base at Bardufoss where the Commando Helicopter Force operates.

  • But what about domestic drones, even military grade ones, they can spot every single man in the field. Ukraine is showing how the future wars will be fought. All those tricks and evasion and everything goes to s*** once is put up against that. It is time to take another step and figure out how to survive a silent drone attack.

    • Ukraine is not a good example to show the future of warfare it is very barebones with both sides using dates equipment most western nations have effective weapons to render drones useless a modern war would most likely be long range missile and bomb attacks and small groups like this operating behind enemy lines to take out key targets obviously I could be wrong but from my experience this is what it is looking like
