2024 Nissan Patrol Warrior 4x4 review - inc. off-road 4WD, caravan towing test!
If you ever wanted a comprehensive review of the Nissan Patrol Warrior, this is it!
I've taken the $102K Aussie-developed Premcar fettled Nissan Patrol Warrior 4x4 SUV to its limits for this test, with a serious caravan towing test (thanks to my mates at Avida RV), and an off-road test in the Blue Mountains.
I'll also do a detailed interior breakdown - including a test of all three rows of this 8 seater SUV - and on-road, pricing, specs, safety, ownership, warranty details and much, much more.
Here are some of the best alternatives:
GWM Tank 500: • GWM Tank 500 hybrid 7 ...
Ssangyong Rexton: • Budget 4x4 seven-seate...
Ford F-150: • Australia does the F15...
Again, thanks to the team at Avida RV for the caravan loan: avidarv.com.au/

Thanks everyone for checking this video out. I published it just a few days prior to Nissan announcing its big changes to the interior of the Patrol - including the removal of the ancient screen and replacement with a new setup that will undoubtedly make it a bit nicer to live with. Thanks again for your support!
Just purchased the updated model you speak of here. Absolutely love it! Still watched your video and found it thorough and informative. Thanks mate!
@@jonokerr5094 is it available already in aus?
@@OshoLee yes! Purchase one 2 weeks ago from Nissan 🤙
Love my patrol. Very capable. Just completed a lap of Oz towing 3.5t van. Initially I freaked out about fuel. After driving the beast I no longer care. It does such a good job and goes anywhere while being comfortable. And well the V8 sound. What can I say. Thanks for the review.
Your round Oz trip hmmmmm you lucky shit LoL, what was your average litres per 100 ?
It would definitely be a step up from the DX Walkabout I had. Great review.
Thanks!
It did pretty well in swimming Dubai's flood..... Its a powerful machine
Great work mate 👍
Thank you!
Can you do a towing test on a 200 and 300 to see how much fule they use towing the same van on the same roads, thanks for a great review 👍
I love the plastic wood grain on my 380, it signifies prestige and opulence. Matt says ' yeh whatever. '😅
Where do you go and how long were you away in the van ? Bet you thought about it.😅
Still good. Absolutely buy one. Just a shame Nissan Connect isn't available here & the Patrol Hasn't obviously touched its infotainment here for yonks
Height adjustment on the steering wheel is available on the full range of Y62 patrols. There is two levers under the column. One for height and lowering, the other for reach
Great review, awkward upload date as the new warrior my24 came out 2 days ago, with FINALLY a modern infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and android auto as well as a cool box for an extra 3k.
Yep I know, I’m happy I got it out before the update though. The revisions are good but bloody hell, they dumped some stuff to put in a screen.
@@therightcar Yep, just got my 2023 TiL 2 months ago... so glad I did. The new one is useless, Im upgrading the infotainment to match the Armada as its spot on that way.
@@therightcar What did they change to put in the larger screen? I am looking at the new MY24.
Some stock numbers of 23 year Patrols get the upgrade. I bought a Warrior last week. It's in for a pre delivery aftermarket head unit upgrade. The latest upgrades by Nissan also lose the rear air cond. to now get a cooler box and no 360deg camera. The dealer told me that the upgraded head unit isn't as good as the aftermarket one currently at some 4x4 outlets.
As an American "Armada" owner, I'm bummed we dont get the Warrior but the outdated interior is a deal breaker for sure. However I do want that Warrior exhaust!!!
A huge off-road vehicle that suits a purpose (if you have it). Great for cross country family travel if you’re happy to pay the fuel costs. Technology looks primeval, so needs an update. Internal design seems ordinary and past generation. The Warrior upgrade looks excellent. Better as a five seater than a seven. Looks like a possibly good alternative to the Landcruiser. It’s showing its age I’m afraid. The huge petrol motor is getting old and thirsty, extraordinarily so. If you buy one make sure you have the income necessary to run the thing as well as to pay for the vehicle and afford its maintenance. Not for me I’m afraid, but a great review to inform those who want/need such a huge vehicle.
TI Y62 Patrol has a second leaver to adjust the steering wheel height. Unusual I know but you can adjust the steering wheel for height and reach. There is a top tether point for a single child seat in the third row. Thanks for the review.
Oh, well if I got that wrong re adjusting the wheel, that’s on me! Same with the tether. Is that in the ceiling?
Tether on back of seat in third row, drivers side only. Hope you find a comfortable driving position 😂
Good engine, tested on the Mountain 👍
great review mate , last of the dinosaurs
Thanks 🤩
it aint no dinosaur, its a beast
The seat you are sitting in, in the third row is approved for child seat and there is an anchor point from the factory there to use but no ISO fix
That fuel economy is much better than my 200 series economical diesel!
I could be very wrong with my guess on this statement which is ; When the new Twin Turbo V6 Patrol comes out it will PROBABLY be similar to the outrageously priced 300 series. Adding a tuning chip to this vehicle does achieve better power, torque and the ability to run 91 octane. Plus $30,000.00 is a lot of fuel to burn to balance the purchase of this or 300 aeries.
Fuel consumption is better than the old 200 series when towing. there are few tow tests that have been done and on you tube to compare, the patrol come out in front. 300 series I havent seen any comparable figures yet. On the freeway cycle in the patrol you can achieve under 12.s and thats doing the speed limit. Towing your figures were pretty much spot on as thats what I roughly get, I get around 1 litre less but the van I tow is only 2.8T. They did a tow test behind the toyota 2.8D4D range and the average was 18/19L per 100 and it was ringing its neck. Interior 100% is outdated in the patrol and should have been updated years ago, the new series 5 out now has the new head unit in it BUT you lose the 360 cameras, the trizone AC in the rear, but you gain the centre console fridge but you still get to keep the lovely woodgrain unless its the warrior. Still way cheaper than a 300 series with vinyl floor on the GX range for 110k or a GR sport at 150K. the patrol still great value for money
Im confused, it has side exhaust and rear exhaust?? Is it really an AWD/4WD? Meaning full time 4wd? Like the LC300.
Yep it’s got two exhaust setups! Haha. And full time 4WD, like the LC.
i wouldnt change my y62 for any other vehicle, my 200 series towing a 3t van used 26l per 100 the patrol uses 23
No-one’s asking you to switch out of your Y62 😂
What do you think of the on road experience compare with thank 500?
The Patrol feels more substantial. It’s a bigger rig. And heavier feeling. But the Warrior’s huge rubber makes it feel squishy and controlled. The Tank 500 was controlled and a bit firmer feeling.
@@therightcarThanks! The thing with those japanese offroader is always about the price being too highfor a car thats capable but ancient......
The middle row only contains two legal anchor points one in each of the outboard seats. the one in the middle of the second row is not a legal anchor point for a child seat. Its also off set which is why its not approved. In saying that there a lot of people who use it, but technically illegal as its not approved anchor point
Can honestly say that with the numbers of Y62 Patrols being delivered across the country, the lack of Apple Car Play / Android Auto, the tree friendly wood grain and the “Terrible” fuel consumption must really be killing it (sarcasm). As alternative vehicles go, your list was probably your worst recommendations yet 😢. The closest vehicles when looking at capabilities off the showroom are tens of thousands of dollars more. Think LC300 GR sport, Defender, Grenadier Trialmaster. All damn fine vehicles by up to $50k better?
electric tailgate, electric rear seats...something else to waste money on if they fail. Go to Bunnings, get some concrete and harden the fook up. Boot too high to lift your cargo into refer to previous Bunnings shopping list. Any disagreements with the aforementioned, I accept if the argument refers to my crude comments. If not, then you should reflect and refer to logic: why are you considering a lifted vehicle if concerned with its height? Why do you need electric motors for simple tasks? Do you have automated doors in your house? Do you have electric recline function in your couch? ;) Thanks for sharing. PS: My comments are aimed at the potential buyers who consider those points to be a negative and are not aimed at the reviewer!
I've got a sticker from bali that says, go to bunnings, buy some timber, build a bridge and get over it 😂
looks good till you get inside
The interior of the y62 is really what made me not buy one. Comparing the Australian interior to other countries and you really see how bad it is. There's a video on the y62 out of the phillipines and the interior looks like what the Aus spec should be.
Since this review there has been an update. It looks a lot better now.
@@therightcar Yeah, I've seen it and it's still disappointing and nowhere near what it should be. There's a recent video from Top Gear Phillipines on the Patrol, that's what the interior should be. I almost bought a y62 but that was one of the main reasons I didn't. The drive is really nice though and I was looking for a petrol.
Yeah , A big NO to the Chinese Tank , a huge SUV with tiny 2 litre engine , Hell NO , not buying that at all .
It has a pretty powerful electric motor. Faster then a prado
Have you ever heard ev before?
Geez, poking the bear in the comments recommending a GWM as an alternative lol 😂
😅😅😅
Patrol warrior is an 8 seater not 7
@ 22.45 it's not a SUV anymore
If Nissan modernised this vehicle they would sell heaps
Yep, a new-gen model is coming. When?? Hopefully soon!
Toyota tax!! Hahahaha… take the patrol any day of the week…
Haha!
For what the majority use these vehicles for the GWM would be a far better choice. 😊
GWM is still unproven in Australia for serious offroad and caravan towing at 3000kg.
GWM will do almost everything the patrol does, except heavy towing The y63 is about to come out
Sure.. if u don’t mind warranty claims and being in the shop a lot.. 💁🏼♂️ Risk it… I wouldn’t…
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha you nitwit
@@michaelhermans4753 the y62 eats any chinese shitbox
It's only a mere 140,000 dollar Nissan. Gee...we can all run out and buy that...rofl
It’s still a F-Off Nissan, when we still don’t have the interior tech upgrades that the world got several (SEVERAL!!) years ago, except Australia😒. But the eye is in the beholder, this car will still have die-hard fans lining up with their 💰🙄… and I guess there is the “after market” for customisation…
You bet. Let’s hope the new model brings a big update to the interior.
Same as 79 owners. 😅
A cd player in a 2024 vehicle 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Pay over 100k then have to put a new entertainment system cause the standard one is 💩 Get rid of the wiggles sticker package Pay the extra and go for the 300s Toyota
300 also has a CD player in 2024....
i ordered a 300 series then test drove a y62--- i cancelled the 300
Pff infotainment. I can read a map
Warrior or Ranger Raptor?
Your a journo and still can't see that the steering wheel does tilt mate there is another lever down there lol
Ease up, I missed it.
@@therightcar sorry bro found it funny as Not having a go at you See what you need to do is hire me s your side kick. Love to be a journalist
unless you have a thing with V8, otherwise there is no reason to pick tank 500 over this dinosaur... pump $20k to modify the tank 500, you will get at a same if not better capable off road machine with less fuel consumption and $20k more in your pocket.
The Tank 500 is still unproven in tough 4x4 conditions in Australia; the Patrol is well known and proven.
id hate to be outback australia in a chinese shitbox
This review spends too much time on criteria that would be irrelevant to the target market.
What, like the car, the interior, the engine, the drive experience, what it’s like to tow with, what it’s like off road, and whether it’s good or not?? If the target audience wants to see the Warrior just lurched over sand dunes and climbing rocky mountains, there’s other videos they can watch. I’m all about giving comprehensive detailed info and commentary on the car and its intended use.
Tailgating bogans generally drive these
I'd take the F150.
youd be taking it in for warranty weekly
Plus the are to big for normal life
@@thelonewolf666 Sounds the same as post 2016 Patrol.
I’d take a Raptor. Less money. More car.
Yup gwm would be best, heres why, when world transition to EV(damnn) in 1 year 😂😂, this gwm will be time to replace. Thats how long it will last. A year. 😂😂😂
RE click image text: "Get one while you still can. Emotional manipulation trying to coerce folks to buy one of these. From my limited experiences, and listening to and reading other's experiences, many mass produced cars built after 2000, due to manufacturer heirachy's business greed-obsessed buisness model, is continuous reduction of quality. I own a 2002 Ford BA XR6 ute and a 2012 Nissan Micra...both are rife with low quality compontents and build specs, compared to a wide range of cars I've owned over the last 40 years...thus making my two current rides, pieces of crap, in proportion to the actual positives each has. Not a fan of these channels that I theorise are nothing more than part of the car manufacturing industry's advertising departments. My next cars will be rebuild second handies, preferably ones with carbies, and the only electronics will be CDIs. Lesson learnt, mass produced car manufactures make more money by repeat sales, thus the quicker these low quality builds fail the sooner another one has to be bought... or as is quite common, replacing a car with less than 100thou on the clock with another new one before the low quality shows it's ugly head.

What places you above the law? Where are your tow mirrors? You are doing exactly as arrogant van owners do, simply no idea of whom is directly behind you, whom is nosing out to see if safe to overtake etc. Tow mirrors that allow the driver to see full length of van side and what's behind are required in every Aussie state, and no rear view cameras don't overrule this, you must be able to see down side of van, the whole side.
Towing mirrors aren’t a legal requirement. I could see what I needed to see. Under NSW law you need only fit towing mirrors if you feel you need them. From NSW Transport:: Additionally: extra mirrors may be needed for the towing vehicle if towing a large trailer. That doesn’t say they’re a legal requirement. I know the caravan. I know that road like the back of my hand. And I’m not going to do anything silly - insurance won’t allow it.
@@therightcar That's exactly what that wording is saying, large trailer, no side view. You are saying a truck doesn't require mirrors by your rationale. I love you work but in this case you are wrong and have now advocated mirrors aren't required. Try explaining that to constable plod when you cut him off lane swapping Infront of him. You cannot see behind that van, full stop.
.Hi, I uploaded this as your viewers need to know they are required, full stop. Directly from RMS site: Safety equipment is a vital aspect of towing in NSW. To ensure compliance with regulations, specific safety equipment must be in place, including: Towing mirrors: Use extended mirrors if your trailer or caravan is wider than your vehicle to ensure clear visibility of the entire length of the trailer. Directly from Vic Roads: Are towing mirrors a legal requirement in Victoria? Do I need towing mirrors? Towing mirrors is a legal requirement in Australia. The Vehicle Standard (Australian Design Rule 14/02 - Rear Vision Mirrors) addresses this regulation implemented in 2006. The rule specifies the minimum field of vision that side mirrors must offer Your apology won't be forthcoming, but I do know the law. I used to sell caravans and was very aware of my obligation to purchasers.
You a happy soul😅😅
@@daweigo6851 I am actually, loved selling vans, loved advocating the right way to go about it & now love van life myself but it annoys the crap out of me knowing I'm closing in a a towed van knowing the driver has no concept I'm there as I can't see his/her mirrors so he/she can't see me. Recall stickers on trucks, "if you can't see my mirrors I can't see you" Same applies to cars towing vans.
To expensive for a Nissan

Q. What is another 4wd that is petrol and thirsty and costs less? A. Raptor.
Can’t tow nearly as much though.
@@therightcar Yes but Raptor can tow enough and they are seriously good. Didn’t a stock Raptor compete at Finke Desert race? I want to like the Nissan but it’s just too past it.
