Raven Johnson put on an absolute Masterclass versus arguably the best scorer in women's basketball history. After an 18 point 1st quarter performance by Clark, Raven Johnson was able to hold Caitlin to just 3/11 shooting the remainder of the game. Here is a breakdown of every possession.

Raven definitely put on a defensive clinic guarding Clark. She deserves the Dennis Rodman Defensive Player of the Game Award. Her defense on Caitlyn largely contributed to SC's victory! It's just sad that every media outlet failed to acknowledge this! Raven should be honored!

Iowa fan here. Raven was amazing and I think the biggest difference in the game. I had thought Celeste Taylor did the best at guarding Caitlin this year until Nika Muhl the other night was incredible. In this game, Raven was even better, totally disrupting Caitlin's game.
She totally disrupted the scoring spree of the most prolific collegiate ballplayer to hit the hardwood. You can't "stop" CC. You can disrupt her. I'm team South Carolina yet CC is poetry in motion as far as skill is combined with basketball IQ and relentlessness. Salute to Raven Johnson. She came laser focused on defense like a white blood cell.
It’s easy to defend her when she’s the only good player on the team.
Once Clark gets with great coaching she'll learn to slash and move w/o the ball instead of dribble dribble, plus she had no 20 plus scorer in her 4 years which opens up the floor.

I know that lost last season in the final 4 was devastating for SC & Raven, but SC did the unthinkable & bounced back going undefeated & doing so slaying CC & Iowa. Raven is an undefeated/perfect champion.

Raven should get all of the credit for stopping clark. I don’t know why Clark is getting so much credit when she was shut down by this young lady. Some ethnics groups really try to put up their Cinderella people, even though the Cinderella person got shut down. Lol
Raven did a good job, but she was the 3rd one to guard Clark with tired legs. And she just played a stressful 40 minutes against UCONN. It would be interesting to see them go one on one again. Raven is a good player, and with all the 5 star recruits South Carolina has, they should take it all again next year.
Hey Cap! I just got through watching Joyce in the Jordan Classic. WOW!! MVP and again, out played everyone! As far as Joyce in the staring line up, I don't see it. She will come off the bench and BE amazing just like Lay and Tessa!!!

She had 18 first quarter and 12 the rest of the game. She had 30 points on 28 shots. She had 4 turnover and Raven blocked her shot twice. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

If you watch all of Clark's 30 points, she scored most of them on Bree Hall in the first quarter. Raven made the difference in the game by substantially showing down Clark for the remainder of the game....she didn't shut her out, but slowed her down, which is what you need to do to beat Iowa
@@waldolydecker8118 3 shots in 3 qtrs that's a shut out. The funny thing is Hall did a lot better rhan she getting credit. She's a big part of the reason Clark was gassed. 18 pts, a Cardoso switch and a Kitts and Hall foul accounted for 8 of those 18. Everybody saw the push that landed Hall underneath the rim that freed up that 3. Just like that you realize you can't charge Hall for no more than 7 pts. Clark hit a deep 3 on Hall and the other two shots look liked fouls to me when she jumps in a fashion that knocks Hall out of the way almost like a charge but it was in tne air. If those wasn't fouls they will be soon.
this isn't a Raven Johnson story or a clinic. It's bad coaching by Iowa's coach. They loaded a screen at the top of the arc when they should have done double screens to get the switch. But that's something Iowa's coach has to live with. Raven is face guarding her and jumping routes, that's someone you hit a double screen on she's off Caitlin. You can tell Caitlin also had no legs by the 3rd quarter, probably emptied the tank in the first and when South Carolina's bench hit 37-0 on Iowa's bench your mentally done down double digits. Not a masterclass of any sort, just dumb coaching.

I agree with you. It is dumb coaching. Dumb coaching by OTHER coaches. Because Caitlin has removes; go left step back three, or drive right and either hesitate putting the defender on her back hoping to get a foul or complete the drive if it’s a clear lane. She has ZERO mid range. Also, she can play NO defense. Although Iowa plays a lot of zone, I never understood why the opposing coaches never put Caitlin in high ball screen against their best ball handler/shot creator, and just go at her every single time. Raven played her exactly like you should. Let her dribble right all she wants, if she happens to dribble left, let her because you know it’s only to create for the step back. She isn’t driving left.
You're tripping, if you're the best player then your game should be that good you know how to create the space required to get your shot, Steph Curry can dribble the ball way better than Catlin Clark and he creates space because he's that great and can shot from half court consistently, he's won 5 NBA championships he does not make excuses Catlin Clark is not that player just because you put her up on a pedestal doesn't make her great she is only playing with the talent she possess and Raven Johnson shut her down for 3 quarters Catlin only scored 7 points, she was tired because of Raven this is a championship game, that's when tired is mental all the great players overcome tired and win championship especially if you're the leader obviously Catlin Clark is not that championship leader, Angel Reese, Kamilla Cardoso, A'ja Wilson, Brianne Stuart, Kelsey Plum all great players Taurasi, Sue Bird great players but they all win championship and used tired as a excuse for not winning, Raven Johnson exposed all Catlin Clark weaknesses that game cut the head of the snake off and you will not get harmed by any of Iowa players, Iowa lost against Angel Reese and LSU and Kamilla Cardoso and South Carolina Gamecocks and Dawn Staley get over that bullshit of Catlin Clark she's a LOSER 2× yall might be disappointed but we are not because the best team and best players won the NCAA National Championship A.K.A.
