  • What's worse when inbreeding goes wrong? The looks or the craziness?

  • Queen Victoria had a great idea. She married off her relatives into the royal families of Europe. For instance, by the early 20th century, the English King, German Kaiser, and Russian Tsar, were cousins. Her idea had been, if all the royalty of Europe were related by blood, they wouldn't go to war with each other. Regrettably, the plan was a failure. :(

    • They are 3rd cousins, which is by the way statistically healthier than marriage between closer relatives or further relatives(Average marriages). Humans are hard wired for offspring between 3rd and 4th cousins. Humans never stopped marrying their cousins, they just shifted to 10th and 11th cousins. There was a comprehensive study done in Iceland which shows all this. 3rd and 4th cousins had more kids and more grandkids. @Acer Rome Seriously, assuming Charles is "wacko" because his parents are third cousins is pretty asinine, plenty of wackos in the general population, in fact more wackos are born in the general population than from 3rd cousins by a long shot.

    • @@acerrome9672 lots of people cheat. It happens everyday. I don't think it is right, but it happened decades ago now. Charles cheated first and then Princess Diana did. That was also not right, but it happened. She was too young for Prince Charles for one thing and he already cared for someone else. He should have stood his ground and not married her. Princess Diana was loved by the world, but I doubt she was easy to live with. She had struggles with mental health besides being young. She was only 20 and Charles was 32. I was surprised when he married Camilla. He supposedly loved her since he was 22. I know a lot of people still hate him for cheating, but it was so long ago that I got over it.

    • This actually happened on an old British reality TV show "The Jeremy Kyle show" several years back. A gay couple who I think grew up in care, or at least one of them did, found out on live TV through DNA testing that they were actually brothers..... 😲😲😲😲 Naturally after finding out that you've been unknowingly sleeping with your sibling for 2 years the brothers were extremely traumatized. The "aftercare" team on the show gave the brothers extensive (and probably lifelong) therapy as the brothers split up and re-establish a sibling relationship instead.

  • You forgot something in “A Day In The Life Of Queen Elizabeth II”, she actually does personally write to some people. Sometimes it’s sending other European Families a Christmas card but quite often when she does personally send somebody a message it’s for their 100th birthday, once they turn 105 she then personally sends them a birthday card annually. Also, if she gets a message from a letter from a member of her family she can easily tell that it’s from them because something’s written in a lower corner in a particular color of ink too. This way if one of her grandchildren send her a birthday card she’ll easily know it’s from a member of her family and not just the general public.

It wasn't uncommon in rich families for a grandfather to expect his two grandchildren, who were first cousins to marry, and thus wealth stayed in the family.

At one point the mall needed repairs but they were short on the money. 💰 The Sultan of Brunei’s brother travelled to Canada for one month, to bail out the family. Before he arrived, he had the entire top floor, of a hotel in the City of Edmonton renovated, at a cost of One million Dollars. It included the installation of a private kitchen. The hotel was then renovated back into rooms after his stay.

It wasn't until the beginning of the Tudor times that it was retired as a recidence.

  • My family jokes about how "the family tree is more like a wreath." There are several points at which people from disparate branches of the family married without knowing they were related because since coming to the New World there were several places that people broke off from the family to start their own clan, and later generations found each other and got along (as family members sometimes do). Now we're finding some of these crossovers with genetic testing.

    @wendychavez5348@wendychavez53483 жыл бұрын
    • On the plus side, as long as they're bringing in enough fresh blood from without, that should dilute any shared recessive genes enough that your family shouldn't have much trouble on that front.

      @vikkimcdonough6153@vikkimcdonough61532 жыл бұрын
    • Not as big a problem in the last hundred or so years, @@vikkimcdonough6153. By state law, first cousins are permitted to marry; by family tradition, fifth cousins are usually considered too close to mess with. About halfway through my first semester at the college I graduated from, I learned that a friend of a friend was maybe a third cousin. He flirted with me an awful lot, and once even asked me on a date, but I couldn't get past thinking, ew! He's family!

  • 6:40 Point of order: Hemophilia isn't the result of inbreeding, since it's a single-gene trait, caused by a defective gene on the X chromosome. It wouldn't have mattered if Nicholas and Alexandra had been first cousins or completely unrelated; any baby boy they had would have a 50% chance of inheriting Alexandra's faulty X chromosome, and thus having hemophilia, and any daughter they had would have a 50% chance of being a carrier. Consanguinity isn't a factor for X-linked genetic diseases. Just sayin'. Also, Alexei died of a spray of Bolshevik bullets. Even the best genes in the world wouldn't have saved his life. Again, just sayin'.

    @astrinymris9953@astrinymris99534 жыл бұрын
    • Yup. Same reason that it was only men who seemed to have it, as the Y chromosone is shorter than the X, therefore more common in men, and the same reason that colourblindness is also more common in men (I carry this gene, my son isvery slightly colourblind)
