13 Days in Vietnam on a Budget

Honestly, this video wasn't even supposed to exist.
We came here with the intention of making a 3 days in Hanoi and Saigon, ya know covering the capital and the biggest city, but as soon as we got here, we looked at each other and decided that obviously we gotta take a crazy trip all the way across this country and see the whole darn thing from top to bottom.
That's the thing about Vietnam - it just sucks you in, there's no fighting it.
We've got our usual $100 USD per day budget, and our adventure starts in Hanoi. We’re going to be taking trains and boats and smaller boats and motorbikes and whatever else we can find as we work our way down to Saigon over the next 2-ish-weeks.

    • Don't do it. Vietnam is following the footsteps of China. Playing the long game. Keeping a low profile until they become Rich, and then the Communists of Vietnam will invade America , just like what China is doing now

  • I'm only 7 minutes into the video, but I had to stop and comment about how much I'm enjoying/appreciating your editing style, your commentary, and the overall enthusiasm for Vietnam. As someone who hasn't been back to Vietnam in over a decade, I am vicariously living through the both of y'all. Pros: excellent intro that wrapped me in and had me sticking around, great editing throughout, a lot of personality and individuality compared to other youtubers. Love it!

  • We never watch videos longer than 12-15 minutes, 19 if they are REALLY well done. When I tell you that we posted up like we were watching Lisa and Josh's Excellent Adventure and enjoyed the whole thing in one sitting I am not joking. It was the perfect mix of your personalities, good writing, and visual interest/description of where you went. It's like watching actors only better because you seem like basically normal people enjoying each other and life. So good

  • thank you sooooo much for this amazing video and coverage of Vietnam ... to be honest vietnam was not on my list of travel because as a solo female traveler i feel it might be hard to travel there .... but seeing this video made feel much at ease (that doesn't mean I wont have my guard up ... I am always careful ) but this video made me think of it more . on another note your way of 100$ budget Ive used it in my last 3 trips and it has been amazing! its duable and to me made more travel exciting and I now can travel more by researching a more affordable way of travel. thank you from the bottom of my heart . You have really set a good way to budget. seeing lots of love to both of you from Jeddah Saudi Arabia !

  • Hi Lisa & Josh, I honestly lost count of how many times I watched this video. First of all, you inspired my husband and I to spend a month in Vietnam with my 18 years old son - we are flying in 40 days! Secondly, you guys are really amazing! I love the humor, honest opinion about the experiences you've had and the chemistry between the two of you. I have a lot of fun watching your videos. Anyhow, after Vietnam we are flying to Japan, so needless to say I am also watching all your saga there. Thanks for all your hard-work to make your trips an inspiration for us.

I love your down-to-earth approach. I also love how you guys are all about *the experience* and not yourselves, which is not all that common with many travel KZheadrs, especially the couples. As a foodie, I appreciate your lavish focus on the food you eat! Very solid production and great choices for music, tastefully used. You have earned my subscription!

  • I've lived in Vietnam for almost 2 years now. 1 year in Saigon and almost a year in Hanoi. I gotta say, you did Vietnam proud. I've been to everyplace you went. That small, peaceful, non-motorbikey place in Hanoi is not West Lake. It is Truc Bach... where I live. It's too bad you met the shitty grab drivers in Hue and the rude, pushy women at Ben Thanh market (I loathe that place). I watched your whole 2 hour video in 2 sittings. I love Vietnam.

  • Your videography is on another level. If you have a chance, I recommend you to explore the north west of Vietnam, places like Mu Cang Chai, Hoang Su Phi, Pu Luong, Ha Giang, Sapa, Simacai, Moc Chau, and Phong Nha in the central. They are spectacular. Ha Giang and Sapa that are known to westerners, but the others are not. If you go to these places on the right month, you can see breathtaking views. To me they rank top 10 places in Asia (not exaggerating ).

Well my partner and I are returning to the states from our midlife gap year in 12 days. We are now in Malta and will fly to Southampton then transatlantic back. One coping skill you taught us was to plan for future travel and we had been discussing Vietnam and this 2 hour clip we never paused has sealed the deal. We are very excited and might come back for questions if you don’t mind :)

  • Yes, love the long trips/videos as ~2 weeks vacation is the max most people can take, especially from the USA. Keep them coming!👍

  • The content that you guys are providing is invaluable for those who may think they lack the financial stability. Although Christian and I get asked all the time, how do you do it? We are very deliberate in our adventure planning. We take weekend trips near and far. I've started setting aside 30 mins (at least) every Monday morning to field the questions about our weekend adventure. It's interesting to see how many people from my office are being inspired to get out and explore. @lisaandjosh and others have inspired us to start telling our story to a wider audience. More to follow as we kick off TeamMike Adventure.
