Ron's point about watching this show through Pain's lens is 100% correct, and I see so many fans miss this somehow. The ENTIRE point of the Itachi and Pain stories is to get the readers/viewers to snap out of the reflex to just back the main character/village always, and think a little more deeply about who's who, and what's what in the story. Konoha actually is trash.. all of the villages are self-interested bodies that stomp all over whoever they can get away with stomping on, whenever it suits them. This is why XXXXXX asked what he did when he talked to "the all knowing". Because he started to realize that the entire ninja system was trash from the foundation. Lot of fans somehow miss all that. I'd also say that this view is also 100% transferable to real world politics. Whenever anyone is trying to get you to think any people are "savages" or "terrorirsts" or whatever... dig just a tiny bit past the surface of whatever you're told, and you will almost ALWAYS find a real cause for why people are acting in angry ways towards whoever. You may not *agree* with the actions at the end of the day.. but it's almost always about something substantive and relatable, and not dumb shit like people just being violent genetically or "they hate our freedom" or any other dumb shit like that.
Nope, there isn't always a real cause, it's merely 2 different type of "villains", both fictional archetypes and real ones. Yes, there's a type of them who were born normal, but became traumatized, likewise of whom Batman said "live long enough to see yourself become a villain" (a romantic villain basically), but the other type does actually consist of naturally hateful creatures or, as you put it, "genetically" aggressive ones, who are mentally ill. Doesn't matter whether we assign their unreasonable behaviour to some devilish soul or to physical genetics, they exist and bring causeless, foolish malice into the world, because their mind is prone to violence and madness, and they need no special reason for it.

Pretty sure the "speech" is the conversation Pain has with Naruto while he is pinned down explaining the cycle of pain. Matt Mercers english voice acting of Pain is iconic.
I think Troy Baker is the one that’s more known for Pain/Yamato since he’s the original. Troy is Pain in this arc. Matt took over for Troy’s rolls around episode 230 supposedly. He would then be Pain’s voice in anything following like games and whatnot.
Its Troy Baker. Matt replaces Troy as Yamato after Ep 230 & does Pain in the video game Storm 4
I think the speech could also be Naruto's talk no Jutsu with Nagato
This is Troy baker, pretty sure Matt Mercer takes over later when their isn’t very many appearances of pain later in the series.

The Speech already happened. It was when Pain told Naruto about the Cycle of Hatred in the World it’s Legendary cuz it’s Real shit that goes on in the World Today
Exactly, Pain could have stabbed her in a vital spot but he didn't. He probably felt some mercy for her, but wanted to get the point across to Naruto.
He ruthlessly killed everyone else, so why have mercy for her?
@@KissablePurpleMonkey Because Pain watched the entire interaction just like us. I don't think Pain is devoid of feelings. Its the only explanation I can think of as to why Hinata was still alive? Pain could have stabbed her right in the heart. Why didn't he? He just missed? What's your reason.
@@wilsonsmanz It could be that he just didn’t. There doesn’t need to be a reason. I mean why not stab her head? Take it off entirely? Could be he wasn’t finished, but got interrupted by Naruto turning. At the end of it all, it doesn’t actually matter if he killed her or not. Also the “devoid of feelings” part. Dude attacked and destroyed the entire village just because. He didn’t care about who he killed. Did he check if children and other non-combatants were evacuated? Not everyone in the village is or can be a ninja. I think you might mean more “devoid of mercy” because no matter how self-righteous Pain makes his “justice” out to be, he’s just being vengeful.
Pain is one of The Best Villains Ever straight Up, he's Just so Epic as a character. He Gave The Best Arc to all Naruto, that reason alone would be Enough to considere him The Best Naruto character Ever made.
SPOILER That is debatable, but for many people, including me, Madara is the best Naruto villain in general, and not only that, but for many Madara is, along with Aizen, the best villains of all shonen anime in general and I already agree. In the end I think he is a more complex character than Nagato, not to mention that Pain's great speech was inherited for tobi and this copied from Madara himself, and he handles it better than Nagato.

Shingo Yamashita is the key animator for this scene and he has done other fights and for different anime as well. He did a great job directing the animation showing the movement, power, speed, all together made a very shocking fight. He has a video with Crunchy Roll explaining some of the basics of animation and his thought process. I think the other main key animator that was in charge of many scenes is Norio Matsumoto. There are a few videos describing the animations and breaking down how they work, but there are definitely still spoilers for that.
Even so, that doesn't take away the fact that it is quite ugly, not only for a few but for many, it was a bad decision to choose this style of animation for this fight.
If I'm not mistaken, Matsumoto was behind part 1 episodes 30 (Sasuke vs. Orochimaru), 71 (Hiruzen vs. Orochimaru, and 133 (Naruto vs. Sasuke), which were works of art. Unlike Shippuden ep. 167, those episodes weren't goofy or unintentionally funny in any way (if you don't pause lol).

The way the music cuts out in 166, just so emotional.
i dont see this in any of the comments but its worth mentioning. Ron said, you cant believe that this is in the middle of Shippuden. Well, the author had planned for Pain to be one of the final villains and the story was meant to end pretty soon after this. But, because of the popularity of the manga he was pressured into writing more. It's one of the reasons why many people say the story goes downhill after the Pain arc.
Epic ending to this chapter. We viewers know that the 4th Hokage is Naruto's father, but Naruto has no idea. XD
You are right that this fight could have taken place later in the show but regardless its a pivotal moment in the show which spells narutos growth and new vision for the future. no longer spouting nonsense about being a hokage but rather understanding what it means to be a hokage for himself and others as well. He gets a taste of how the world outside his hidden leaf "bubble" is and what a grim journey he has ahead of him. I think it was a great moment for this confrontation to take place because we get to see naruto maturing throughout the upcoming adventures until the end of shippuden.
You shouldn’t forget that pains body is just a corpse controlled by chakra-rods. That’s why it looks „weird” and so „elastic“ if you can say. I love the animation in this fight, because it totally makes sense. Sorry for bad english

Here's why everyone likes episode 167 of Naruto Shippuden. Naruto's 6-Tailed form is not only does it look good (especially the "upper jaw" skull looking like a mask loosely attached, but this is Naruto at his worst. And he looks nearly unstoppable. And there USED to be a lot of fan art of this form.
Such a lowkey moment out of full respect Nagato didnt kill Hinata and avoided vital spots. He killed everyone else but spared Hinata cause shes the first shinobi who showed him selflessness like Yahiko did.
19:17 Don't forget: She's a Hyuga! Neji can deflect attacks from his vital points by using chakra from any point of his body.
I did not know that!
You guys will understand why Kishimoto left Gai out of Konoha, only in the episode 418. Be safe until you guys finish the story hahaha
The animation for 167 was my favorite in the entire series. They only bring in that animator for “special fights” like Sasuke vs Naruto in the OG anime. His style is really fluid and is perfect for fight scenes imo.
Ron I love your other ch soo much, nice to see someone be honest about what they've gone through, motivating.
I really wish they used the same animators they usually use. I hate the lack of details and cartoon-like drawings in these 2 episodes
Pain's awkward movements and reactions during the Nine Tails portion of the fight make a lot more sense when you consider this is just Yahiko's old ass corpse being puppeteered
maybe im one of the few, but I like the animation in the nine-tails vs pain fight. I think the idea behind it is that both character are on the peak of their feelings - naruto/9 tails on peak rage, and pain defending what he stands for and getting capturing the nine-tails.. his strongest enemy this far. though it looks goofy, the distorted and exaggerated lines shows the chaotic and uncontrolled feeling you get when you go all out and at the peak of emotions. and the funny faces is like in boxing or diving when they do a slo-mo and the faces just look funny cos they're giving it their all.
You're right! That is ART! But some ignorant, disabled people didn't get it.
It doesn't fit and the art is ugly no matter how many mental gymnastics you do. The art and animation around the part Pain leaving the village and Chibaku Tensei onwards were great. Fck that loony toons sht at the beginning.

Somehow its kind of a spoiler knowing how many episodes are left, because following the show as it airs you have no idea if this is close to the last arc or not, so the danger feels real, but knowing there are hundreds of episode left it's easy to feel like all is fine
The reason for the animation change is because it’s trying to illustrate how massive the scale of the battle is and how fast they are actually moving, so they switched it up for a few episodes.

My theory of the artwork is that it's showing how ridiculously damaged Narutos psychi was and is by his pain and loss that he has lost all control. And the disjointedness is being portraying that craziness in Naruto's soul
You are basically correct, this style of art is meant to "show" the viewer what the characters are feeling. I think it's both Pain and Naruto being portrayed this way because Pain is putting everything on the line to complete the last step of his dream against the most powerful foe he knew he'd have to face, and he is fighting an ideological battle as well. That's why he shows so much emotion with "My Pain is greater than yours" and why that scene is drawn in such a unique way. The drawing shows us how he feels, which if you think about it is kind of incredible because expressing feelings is already hard enough just from talking. And of course Naruto is in pure chaos state throughout, so he is erratic and destructive. This is not a battle between humans anymore, it is a god versus a monster. Of course it can't be portrayed in a normal way.
They tried to use the animation style of part 1 ep. 133 (Naruto vs. Sasuke) but added some scenes that were simply goofy and frames that looked like they were drawn by a toddler. Subtract those elements, and the episode would have been as epic as it should have been.
@@foreighteen7797 Easily some of the best animation in the entire series. The way it portrays speed and power is amazing. You must know some talented toddlers if they're drawing stuff like this.
@@fluffernutter6633this animation...good try . Horrible execution
You don't know what art is! You don't know what it's like to do a scene like that! You don't know what the intention was! You don't know shit You say it's "gooooofy" because you don't understand. You're Infatilized! You are ignorant.
One of my only true frustrations with Naruto (the show) is how this fight was animated. I just do not understand. Its been like 10 years and it still bugs me. I just don't understand why they animated it so strangely.
167 will always be divisive among the fan base, I love it! Atsushi Wakabayashi was the director for this the same guy who did Naruto vs Sasuke 133, Orochimaru vs Hiruzen Naruto episode 71 and Sasuke vs Orochimaru episode 30. This was also the most expensive episode in all of Naruto, a lot of big names worked on it. the style of animation is subjective, but the animation itself is great! A lot of cool stylistic designs with A lot of impact. Wakabayashi always adds some crazy elements to his episodes that go beyond the manga.
I didn't know this the first time when I watched it either - this is one of those episodes where they had to convert one manga chapter into an entire episode. In the manga Naruto just went from 4 tail straight to exoskeleton 6 tail and broke the necklace. So the controversial cartoonish fight before that and the watery battle field was technically a "filler", although I definitely didn't mind it. I binged this arc so I was fully emersed. The goofy animation conveyed the emotions quite well to me. But I can see how this could throw some viewers off as well.
24:42 shivers literally every single time i watch it.
(At 7:55) I remember how everyone was hyped when this episode came out when Hinata confessed her love.
I have seen this anime at least 4 times over and seeing new people watch the anime it's like experiencing all the emotions I felt for the first time again and again.
The 'SPEECH' was the conversation between pain and naruto when naruto was pinned down, where pain talks about the cycle of hatred. I watched the show in sub but that speech hits harder in dub ngl. A couple of other speeches that are yet to come hits harder in dub too.
Anyone else laughed hard at 2:44 when he said "Its cool that it's fully confirmed who's running it all". 😂
😅 yeah
That "Rengoku!!!" Seemed way too excitedly genuine to be a joke. Had me rolling.
The end of episode 167 is masterpiece sequence of the whole naruto verse and many other anime. Episode 166,67 and the madara uchiha one are my top favourite episodes of the whole naruto verse
I think I know what "the speech" you're referring to. But this here would be one of those "the talk" that make you love this anime even more 😄
The animation for this fight is kinda polarizing. I didn't really like it at first, and thought that was the only thing that kind of held the pain arc back. But I've sort of grown to appreciate it now. It is a little goofy and cartoonish, but I think that was to emphasize the fact that pain's body is dead, so none of the absurd things happening to him really damaged him as much, because he is a dead body.
16:58 The fight in the manga is a lot shorter, they added more things in the anime. Also the fight looks weird because in order to make it more fluid they low the quality of the drawings. And the goofy look i think it's because the pain is just a dead corpse puppet. So i think they made it this way to pass the "it's not human movement's vibe" But yeah, nobody liked so much this episode art style lol
Deva Path being hammered to the ground like a nail has nothing to do with the fact that it's a corpse. It was just an unnecessarily and unintentionally goofy, Looney-Tunes-like scene. Also, people understand sacrificing detail for fluidity, but some of the frames did not have to look as ugly and distorted as they did.
"even Guy, there's no way any of them would even get close to him" the disrespect right there to the leaf's beast, you keep on watching alright you'll learn to put some respect on that name 😡😂
I've always thought it was so telling that out of all the losses Naruto suffers through here, it's Hinata's that finally makes him snap.
Not a spoiler for you guys or anything, and obviously the rest of Naruto til the end is worth watch and full of such satisfying moments and plot twists, but, I think you can understand by now exactly why the Pain Saga is considered many people's favourite; it has everything, never ceases to peak your interest, provides moments of ultimate happiness, sadness, an absolute masterpiece.
Hes gonna go from “knowing pain” to being asked if he “wants to dance”
The amount of rage that built up inside me when I first watched Pain slam Hnata on the ground and stab her was unhealthy.
If you’re wondering why it looks goofy Pain is basically a dead body so I think this animation where his body is basically flipping and flopping kinda shows that perfectly.
This is peak Anime man. Brings back so many memories
"do you wanna talk about that?" "...not really." im fucking cryinggg🤣
Mid-talking point was so right. "I don't agree with him but I understand him".
The Tom and Jerry episode 😂😂😂. You wouldn't believe how many people simp for this animation style and refuse to admit how silly it looks.
it's actually trash. completely inconsistent with the entire rest of the show. the people who don't understand that are actual idiots. people are entitled to like garbage, but it's still garbage. if your favorite pizza on the planet is pizza hut that's fine but you enjoy garbage pizza.
BRUTAL ESPISODE 🤯
Non spoilers: "The ... part is that this is just 1 of the 6 pain bodies" when he uses all might push, he has to put down the other pains so he can put all his power into that one pain. So although sure its 1 pain, now that his chakra isnt spread out to all 6, this 1 is now leagues stronger than all 6 together. There are advantages tonhaving 6 sure, but now that its 1, his attacks will be stronger, speed faster, and his is far more durable. So for example if this one pain had the other 5 alive, his attacks and durability and speed would be no where close to the level they are at now. Also nagato as you can see from his weakened state and coughing, and Konan trying to stop him and worrying and warnining him hes hurting himself shows that it seems to be on his last legs, so this is his hail mary final attempt to make things work for his plan. So your worry of him just beating this puppet means nothing, would not be correct either.
Just saying.. Guy is actually the strongest in the entire village at this time. so its a good reason he isnt in the village while this is happening.
patreon is so worth it theyre on ep 220 there
There is still Madara, Kisame and Zetsu the Aloe Vera like Naruto says haha
Kabuto too
Zetsu is the real Villain
@@zackhamster6730 Yes Kabutops! He is getting all Orochimaru - like
I KNEW THIS WAS GONNA BE COMING OUT TODAY OR TOMORROW AND WAS WAITING SO PATIENTLY FOR IT. AHHHHHH
“Can you still dance?” - the bigger boss
Yes... Know Pain... These episodes have great scenes, a glimpse of 9 tails power, Chibaku Tensei and the last moment before the seal was removed. Introduction to one of fans favourite character 🤭
I think that the only person who could take out Pain Tendo is Guy, that's why he's not at the village right now
im just gonna tell you this... idk if this is a spoiler but... might guy is much stronger than pain lol, im not even joking... thats why kishimoto (the author) didn't include him and his team in the leaf during pains assault
Episode 167 is incredible. You can really felt the despair of Yamato.
12:28 Michelle, "wanna move on to the next one or you want to talk about that?" Ron, *flexes bicep* hahaha
This Pain, Tendo, is indeed the most versatile and strongest among the Six. But every other body of Pain acts like a multiplier with all the different abilities they have. Yeah, he has more precise control over this body while controling only Tendo. Also, do not forget that he went toe to toe with Six tails AFTER nuking an entire village and consuming a shitload of chakra.
Shall know Pain.. "I'm in Hell" "Let's Dance" "My Sons" "I've Lost"
“There can’t be a bigger boss or villain than Pain” LOOL!!! 😂💀👀🤫
Hinata: I'm alive! Yamato: I'm dead (screwed) O_o Nagato/NineTails: I'm watching TV Pain: I'm looking at you 6-tails Naruto: fuck you! Pain: I'm dead, again 6-tails Naruto: I'm up… I can run fast than the bitch around the house!
Bruh why am i smiling throughout the vid 😂 this episode just to epic and feels nice to see other people react to it lol
Spoiler below, dont read if you're not caught up: "Who's the bigger boss than pain?" Tobi: Let me ask my boss Madara: Good idea, I'll also ask my boss Zetsu: Not me. Kaguya: I like Chakra? Ramen old man: "Nah I'd win."
Watching these made me realise naruto was eerily similar to being like jujutsu kaisen with all the supposed deaths.
The Animators on this episode shall known Pain😂
